Should have been in high 4 to get the tires spining faster same as in mud, oh and I live in Idaho and do drive in the snow quite a bit. But nice your buddies helped. When is snows here we go out and look for people to pull out, lots of fun.
needs lockers. as well, the tires seemed fully inflated. they should be no more than 7 lbs of pressure. I usually run snow with only 3-4 lbs of pressure. jeep probably would have done it no problem had it been locked front and rear and tires pressure down.
Did the rubicon have mud terrains? Mud terrains are shit in the snow. Nothing is better than all terrain or snow tires. I've driven through deep snow in my little 96 jetta and I've never gotten stuck. Even when the snow is higher than my bumpers.
I wheel in a rubicon in the snow all the time and from watching this video you can tell that the driver lacks experience in how he has set up his rig and how he is driving it like so many have said before its all driver in these situations.
Doesn't really matter if it's a Jeep, a Hummer or a Toyota. They all have the power and clearance to go through snow. It's a question of tires and traction. I'd rather hear which vehicles had what type of tires! Snow like that, though, you should really get some chains/cables.
how many guys does it take to drive a jeep in a snow? eight dumb friends to push it and one proud jeep owner.. just jump into a hummer and enjoy the out doors..LOL
I've discovered the same thing. A hill never looks steep in a photo. Anyway, that's a nice Rubicon. I have an FJ Cruisr, but the front axle doesn't lock - just the rear. I've yet to need the locker. 4WD High always seems to get me out. I don't do serious off-roading with it.
I would think with both axles locked it would have gone without pushing. Then, it's also my experience that photos/movies do not even come close to showing the true mud, snow, and hill conditions. Also, momentum makes a big difference. Let's face it, with enough momentum, even a 2WD could probably make it through:)
The hill is a lot steeper than it looks. It is also about 3/4 of a mile from the bottom to the top so it is hard to get momentum over that distance. Underneath all that snow there is a layer of ice.
all i was saying is running lockers in snow with any vichicle in low range is useless for the most part jeep or no jeep you gotta have some wheel speed.... and the rubicon has a ultra low transfer case for crawling not busting drifts... if you chip it you can run lockers in high and go twice as far.
You get what you pay for. Jeeps are cheaper because they're cheap. The company has been bought an sold too many times, now they've gone bankrupt due to no one wanting to buy their crappy cars. Jeeps are one of the fastest depreciating cars made, Land Cruisers are one of the few vehicles that go up in value given time - a 30 year old TLC with 300K miles and showing signs of being well used is worth much more than its original purchase price.
You're entitled to your opinion, however it is wrong.
lol i can show you countless 4.0 jeeps with well over 400000km on them and still running fine, i have a 97 cherokee sport with 245000, paid 2000 for it and i beet the crap out of it all the time. i was actually towing my brute force on a trailer yesterday through more snow then there is on this video. jeep bankrupt? not where i come from gm is trying to buy them from chrysler because they are suck a good seller in canada, in the usa everything has gone backrupt lol
"Countless huh?" Sure you can, too bad the average Jeep lifespan is about 50K miles. I'd truly LOVE to see COUNTLESS jeeps with 248,000 miles on them and running fine. Go to any junkyard or used car lot, note the insanely high ration of Jeeps to Land Cruisers. Finding a used TLC at a lot in extremely rare, even more so at a scrapyard, yet Jeeps are so common that they can't get rid of them.
And no, not everything in the US is bankrupt, companies who make a quality product are flourishing.
if there is some many jeeps for sale people must be buying them? man i love the old land cruisers and yota's but they arn't what they used to be. plus twice the money... i can do a lot of reparis for the extra difference and 50k? on a 4 liter? apparently you don't know much about jeeps! mine has 245 000 on it now original engine and trans and still doesn't take any oil. anyways this jeep driver has no idea what he is doing, he should be able to stay with that land cruzier, but does need tires
@verasforzza You should read more, its obvious you dont follow history. Jeeps have been around longer then you were born. There has always been a jeep, and will continue on. Re: Landrovers, they stole everything from the Jeep, except the engine (chevy) to build their products. W/o willys overland, there would not have been a landrover. If you 4wheel you would realize its not the vehicle, but the driver's skill that defines their prowess. You should read more, it would improve your credibility.
#1 I read plenty, and given that I'm currently earning my PhD at one of the best Universities in the world, I guarantee I read a hell of a lot more than you do.
#2 Reading only takes you so far. Experience trumps read knowledge every time, and this is where I really excel. I own a fleet of 4x4's and I've wheeled on all 7 continents is the harshest conditions and toughest terrain known to man.
#3 You keep talking about Land Rovers, I'm talking about Land Cruisers-you should read more.

agreed either the jeep guy has no idea how to drive in snow, or it's a toyota video lol this is just stupid i would take my wife's ford escape on that run
Mark another one down for the "there's an Illuminati/Toyota conspiracy against Jeeps" theory. You guys just can't come to terms with the fact that Jeeps really haven't progressed much since the WWII days. They look the same, still flip super easy, break down right and left, and get stuck in snow/mud like flies in honey. There really isn't much to driving in snow it's not rocket science, and if your 4x4 is worthy, then you just point your wheels where you want to go and depress the accelerator.
another way is to drive it this guy had off road tires not sow tires and he was on a hill and he was on ice and he could drive it up but just bad driver
Even with a 4:1 t-case, if he has the 5 speed, he should be able to do 20+ mph in 5th gear. You just have to be carefull with the new planetary style t-cases, they can't handle the abuse and highspeed operation as well as the old spur gear units. Off roading takes practice and a willingness to learn, its not always natural for some people.
The problem is not with the Jeep at all. It's the fact that the driver has it in low range. Rubicon's have a 4:1 low range which doesn't work great in snow. The FJ only passed through that spot better because he has a higher ratio low range.
