  • Big boys do cry.. i love Ken Buchanan, Tough tough guy, should av beat Roberto Duran

  • dae as yer mammi tels yi

    true weegie

  • @bobbieandjames he was from edinburgh not glasgow mate, unless you dont know what a weegie means.

  • no1 ever notice how how buchanan looks very very like alex arthur .as young guys theyre eerily similar.

  • @jimpurdie Mate just said that to me last week LOL

  • Tops,Tops Ken B.

  • buchanan vs arguello would be the 2 best pure boxers at the same weight...

  • A good comeback for the princesses comment would of been 'My circulation is just fine, only it's no going to my feet'.

  • Celtic Thunder..

  • Duran is a discredited champion. He stole Buchanan's title and then spent years avoiding a re-match.

  • @pjjclarke

Buchanan lost nearly every round.... rematch? Why?

  • @GilbertSyndrome I'd have thought the reasons speak for themselves. A controversial outcome can be resolved once and for all with a re=match and the fact that Duran spent years avoiding one speaks for itself.

  • @pjjclarke

What reasons? He lost every round... thats like saying Shane Mosley deserves another shot at Manny... For what reason?

  • @GilbertSyndrome Read durans book its even it that that he ducked a rematch with buchannan, also duran once said buchannan was the best fighter he ever faught, speaks a lot for this guys greatness.

  • @shotgunshawzy

Duran never ducked a rematch or claimed that he did, they just both went their seperate ways, Buchanan was a legend, but he was losing on the cards against Duran, the lowblow was uncalled for, definately. But Duran was beating Buchanan.

I'd have liked to have seen a rematch though.

  • @GilbertSyndrome He obviously ducked a rematch its in fucking durans book! Buchannan was champ yet didnt get a rematch fuck off man! May have been losing on all cards but its sad it ended the way it did, also the fight wasnt as one sided as it looked although duran was winning the majority of the rounds it looked far worse than it actually was he wasnt landing clean shots due to buchannans outstanding sdefense and footwork, have you even watched this documentary or the fight?Refs 1rst & last LOL

  • @shotgunshawzy

What page in the book is it? I'm looking at "Hands of Stone" now and can't see any passage where it says Duran ducked a rematch. Buchanan lost every round, i like Buchanan but you must be high if you think a rematch would have been any different, haha. Got the fight on DVD, Buchanan never won a round.

Duran wasn't dirty, he was just aggressive, and Marg is a warrior regardless of the scandal, there's no proof he used them before Mosley, or that he even knew about them.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Find it hilarious you have a margacheato video on your channel also, the hands of plaster & the hands of hitting to the stones, yeah you like your dirty fighters thats for sure. LOL

( Dont get me wrong duran was obviously one of the greatest fighters to ever lace up the gloves )

  • @shotgunshawzy

What page in the book is it? I'm looking at "Hands of Stone" and can't see any passage where it says Duran ducked a rematch. Buchanan lost every round, i like Buchanan and i've got the fight on DVD, Buchanan never won a round.

Duran wasn't dirty, he was just aggressive, and Marg is a warrior regardless of the scandal, there's no proof he used them before Mosley, or that he even knew about them at all, after the Cotto fight he takes off his gloves and shakes with the ref.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Well it was actually my friend who read read the book, so 1 of you is telling a big fib, its also very curious how it was the ref Johnny LoBianco's first and last fight dont you think, and why would a world champion ( ken buchannan) not get a mandatory rematch after he loses his title or another chance down the line at some point? There was absolutely no way duran won every round also that slip in the first as well counted a knockdown? fuck sake come on man!!

  • @shotgunshawzy

So, you never even read the book but you're telling me that Duran claims he ducked Buchanan? haha, are you serious? I've got the book here, read it 3 times, it doesn't mention anything about Duran ducking Kenny. Do you box at all? You only get a mandatory rematch if its written in the contract or if the sanctioning body demands it, Buchanan never had a rematch clause and the WBA never demanded one.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Dont box myself and dont claim to know everything about the sport but a do know a lot, thx for clearing that up anyway, still fishy how they didnt fight again even a 1-2-3 of years down the line seen as Buchannan was champion and the fight ended the way it did...........makes you wonder duran must have known (as he did say buchannan was the best he ever faught, its right here on this documentary) buchannan was the most dangerous fighter out there for him to fight at that time.

  • @shotgunshawzy

I definately agree, i'd have liked to have seen a rematch, but in all fairness, Duran only got better after fighting Buchanan. Buchanan was a slick, skilled fighter, but he didn't posses the firepower he'd have needed to beat Duran.

Duran never felt that Buchanan offered anything else for him. If Buchanan had won at least 6 or 7 rounds then a rematch would be there, but he lost every round and showed no sign that he could take Durans aggression, clash of styles.

  • @shotgunshawzy

I think Duran meant that Buchanan was the best 135lber he fought, as i can't see how Buchanan was better than Hagler, Hearns or Leonard, haha. But Ken is one of my favourite 135lbers besides Duran, Laguna and Juan Manuel Marquez.

  • @GilbertSyndrome But you have to agree duran was best at 135lb that was his natural weight, he lost a lot of his speed as he moved up in weight. ( the best lightweight in history and buchannan is not far behind him )

Still disagree on the "duran won every round" maybe the judges seen it that way but buchannan won a few in my view, and com on man that slip in the first round from buchannan called a knockdown, you have got to get serious, ref was a joke plain and simple.

  • @shotgunshawzy

Duran was probably one of the best 135lbers in the history of the game, he had some great fights higher up the divisons but he was at his potential at 130-135lbs.

Buchanan was a quality LW, him and JMM would have been a great fight, both technical, JMM is a master counter puncher, probably the best counter puncher right now, Floyd is great, but he's more defensive, whereas JMM is more aggressive on the backfoot.

  • @GilbertSyndrome And why the laughter when i tell you my friend said it was in durans book? I take his word for it he is not a liar or a fool. He boxes, he's actually going to the upcoming ricky burns v michael katsidis fight at glasgows kelvin hall in my homeland, do you get to much live events yourself?

  • @shotgunshawzy

I laughed because you told me with conviction that Duran says he ducked Buchanan in book you've never read, i just don't see how you can be that confident if you haven't read it. Duran has always claimed that a rematch wasn't an interest, he's never ducked him or even claimed to have done.

Duran layed him out after 15 seconds of the first round and dominated througout. He went on to fight the great Sugar Ray, and be the first man to defeat him. He wasn't afraid of anyone.

  • @shotgunshawzy

I only laughed because you told me with conviction that Duran says he ducked Buchanan in a book you've never read. Duran has always claimed that a rematch wasn't an interest, he's never ducked him or even claimed to have done.

Burns vs Katsidis should be good, i'm a big fan of the 135-140lb division. I went to Burns/Cook in Liverpool, not a bad card. I'm going to Bellew/Cleverly, should be a decent night.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Yes i have heard of styles make fights, thousands of times but dont think it makes a difference in the margacheato case, ever heard of tampering with gloves kills boxers in the ring? ( did you actually see cotto's face although he does bust up easy? ) and also one of moselys sparring partners also thinks marga is a cheat because he also sparred with him and he bust his eye socket up, in a fucking sparring session, so you trying to say cheato has marciano type power? LOL

  • @shotgunshawzy

Marg didn't use illegal wraps for Cotto, he takes his gloves off at the end and shakes hands with everyone, including the ref, if he'd had loaded wraps then he certainly wouldn't do that.

Marg beat Cotto down, Cotto threw everything he had at him but Marg walked him into the ropes and pummelled him, i wouldn't be suprised if Marg beats him again. Marg is a warrior, see him laughing at Pac even though Pac was smashing him? haha.

See Pacs face after the Marg fight?

  • @GilbertSyndrome Certainly did & it sure as hell wasnt as bad as cotto's, pacman easily outpointed cheato, cotto was doing the same no. on cheato but it just goes to show what plaster can do for you LOL eventually wear opponents down ( who are easily outclassing you ) and almost put you into a coma. LOL

  • @shotgunshawzy

Cotto was barely outpointing Marg, one judge even had it 95-95 even, so did i.

Marg walked Cotto down, Cotto had no footwork prior to working with Steward, he allowed Marg to bully him on the ropes and he couldn't hurt Marg with anything he threw...

What will everyone say if Marg does the exact same thing to Cotto in the rematch? Cotto's style is made to match for Marg, mark my words.

Marg didn't have illegal wraps on for Cotto, why would he risk being caught?

  • @shotgunshawzy

Maragrito laughed at Cotto's shots, that had nothing to do with loaded gloves, haha. Cotto was being pressured by Marg, and Marg is a master at putting pressure on his opponents, he walks them down. He walked Cotto down and got the better of him.

  • @GilbertSyndrome

There's no evidence to suggest Marg had ever used wraps prior to Mosley, there's no evidence that he would even know that he had plaster in his wraps considering the fact that the plaster was only smeared onto one small section of the wrap, and it was still wet, so Marg wouldn't have felt any weight in the wraps at all.

I think Cotto has improved a lot since the first fight, but he hasn't gotten tougher, Mayorga had a good go at him, and he's a brutal puncher like Marg.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Always exciting to watch cotto no matter who he fights that guy has heart so many times he's been down to get up and finish the job, the guys a class act & has superior boxing skills to the cheato bandito LOL.

  • @shotgunshawzy

Cotto is a great boxer, and i'm a fan of his, but out of him and Marg.. i just think Mexico has that particular edge on Puerto Rico in the longstanding rivalry. I think Tony has his number. But who knows?

Cotto has improved since then, but Marg still has one strong chin.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Just typed in Ken Buchanan V Roberto Duran on demonoid, guess what came up? Billy elliot HAHAHA yeah Ken sure could dance alright! LOL

  • @shotgunshawzy

Also... Cotto busts up no matter who he fights.

  • @GilbertSyndrome True that thats the only way margacheato can fight good solid chin, always coming forward applying pressure with little to no boxing skill or technique ( and 50/50 chance plastered gloves LOL), still smells fishy, cant wait for the rematch, BURNS V COOK was a shambles fight should not even have went ahead.

  • @shotgunshawzy

Also, the sparring story is nonsense, its a rumour, and why would Marg use illegal wraps to spar someone with when you use 15oz gloves? haha.

I don't think Marg even knew about he wrapd prior to the Mosley fight, and i think that if Margs head was in the fight, he'd have given Mosley a run for his money.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Its a widely accepted FACT margarito is a cheat! Otherwise he wouldnt have got his boxing license suspended, curious also that cotto outpointed the supposed superior boxer mosely then cheato smashed cotto up only for the scandal to break soon after then fucking mosely annihilates margacheato..........all of this smells fishy, and it is a widely accepted FACT that the Buchannan v Duran fight is one of the most controversial bouts in the history of boxing.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Is you vision impaired? watch this full 3 part documentary it shows you close up photo's of the low blow right HERE! JESUS FUCKING HOLY MARY CHRIST IN A MANGER!

  • @shotgunshawzy

I think you must be the one with bad eyes, i NEVER said it wasn't a low blow, haha, i said that Duran never intended the shot to be low, watch the DVD, LoBianco pulls him back and the shot comes in lower than it was supposed to.

  • @shotgunshawzy

Nope, Margs trainer was caught after smearing the piece up wrap that rests directly under the knuckle with plaster, the plaster doesn't set til later, so how would Marg even know that it was there?

So, you're saying that because Cotto beat Mosley and Mosley beat Marg.. that Cotto should have beaten Marg? Thats nonsense, ever heard of "styles make fights?" I can name hundreds of examples, look at Hopkins/Pavlik/Taylor for a clear example of why tringle theories are silly.

  • @shotgunshawzy

If you actually watch the fight, on DVD, in better quality, you can see LoBianco pulling Duran back, Duran didn't hear the bell, as LoBianco pulls him back, Durans body shot changes direction and hits Buchanan in the groin, its hard to tell whether it was intentional or not. Duran was a body worker, not a low blower. Watch the DVD.

He never ducked Buchanan, why duck a man that you owned? Can you tell me what page he says he ducked him in? He cleaned out the division.

  • @GilbertSyndrome Got the Buchanan v duran fight on VHS trying to find another version online just now, watched the Marciano v La starza fight last week again got it off demonoid or piratebay, on of the two, check it out if you havent seen it top stuff.

  • @pjjclarke

Buchanan couldn't keep up with the pace of the fight, one judge had it 9-2-1 for Duran, one had it 8-3-1 for Duran and the other had it 9-3. Two of the other officials apparantly forgot to score the last round. In the words of Bert Sugar regarding Ken in the Duran fight: "He was goin nowhere..."

  • duran kicked his ass, great fighter tho!

  • @neometalx9 Duran kneed him in the stanes. How's that an ass kicking? Come off it bruv...

  • @neometalx9 duran couldnt beat him mate, had to resort to cheating which lets be honest Roberto knew A LOT about, have you actually watched the fight?

  • @lickstickly ya "mate". would i be talking to you if i didnt?

  • @lickstickly

Don't know what fight you watched but Duran won nearly every round prior to the low blow... Not one of the judges had Buchanan in front.

  • met him last night in a bar in edinburgh, got my photo taken with him, glad to meet him.

  • Absolutely magnificent documentary - watched all three parts! I bought and read Ken's autobiography some years ago so great to watch this footage which greatly compliments his story! Legend!

  • One of the best and most under rated LW's ever! He was a genius in the ring! Thanks for posting!

  • if ye ask me, he did his mother proud.

  • total definition of heart of a wounded tiger.

  • very underrated fighter

  • Ken was a great boxer, but had a chip on shoulder; maybe that's what helped to make him so good?

  • hes coming back ?? thats mad

  • My granny was pals with him. Is he still workin as a joiner?

  • hes comming back to boxing, at the age of 63

  • jesus christ. grandad boxing..sounds like it could be a hit excuse the pun.

  • Stumbled on this little gem when watching Barry McGuigan clips. I remember Kenny Buchanan winning against Laguna - he was a brilliant Scottish boxer. I met Kenny years later - and years ago - and he was a magnificent gentleman.

He came from a lovely family and was raised in part of Scotland I know well on Scotland's east coast.

I say this - Kenny your ma would be proud of you.

Hope things are good for you. You were the true champion of the world!

  • Not against Roberto Duran, Duran was the better man by far he destroyed Buchanan

  • Yeah. Fair enough. Suppose the disputed low blow will always be a factor - I saw a Duran documentary (either on here or on tele) recently?

    What a man.

  • nah, it was pretty close.

  • @keithyboy313 I cant believe the punishment Buchanan endured from Duran. What a brutal fight.

  • Ken Buchanan was the one who inspired Mike Tyson!

Makes me proud to be Scottish when I know we have fighters like this!

  • Dempsey inspired to tyson, not ken.....

  • great fighter!

  • Ken Buchanan and Jerry Quarry were the heroes of my youth! Glad Ken is still with us, He is a living legend !

  • R.I.P to Michael John Raeburn my dad who use to spar with Kenny. He always had the greatest story`s about Sparta Boxing Club & King Kenny.

I`m glad 2 see this documentary it means alot!!!

  • your mum was inside you Ken.you wont remmember me mick from the elms dagenham.

  • omg i no his son

his name is raymond :L raymond is my mums half cousin

  • Benny lynch was a better all-round fighter than Buchanan.

  • Went to a boxing exhibiton and ken buchanan was thier and Jim Watt, asked Ken for an aurograph for my son who was with me he asked him what he wanted him to write and spent 5 mins talking to him, asked Jim Watt for Autograph and he said out my road i havent got time for that.Baw heed

  • Jim Watt was a star, dont under estimate him. He told me Ken was in a league of his own, but he stepped into the ring. Both are top stars. Watt deserves his place.

  • Jim Watt tried to beat Buchanan but he couldnt do it. Ken is number 1. C'mon Ken Buchanan, best Scottish boxer ever.

  • Jim Watt's an arsehole!

    Eddie,

Ken was in a different world altogether!!

  • FudBall Mcluskey. Jim Watt would kick ur ass. Lightweight gray haired wee guy now. You are insulting our family friends. Ask ur grannie sadie about wee jim, ask my dad. If he lost to a better guy, so what. He was worthy in his own right, and he won on the personality stakes so he still has a career after the boxing. Who won, WATT?

  • Eddie (savagelori). I am not underestmating Jim Watt. OK, we may know him through family, but Buchanan is a million times better. I know who I would rather watch

  • ken buchanan is me 2nd or 3rd cuz

  • He used to swim lengths of the swimming pool underwater in order to build up his lungs for fitness.

He said that night before Duran fight, a pretty woman was sent round to his hotel room probably by Durans camp to tire him out, but he wouldnt let her in. The ultimate pro.

  • I am an englishman but Buchanan was the best british boxer ever. He got a decision against a world class champ in Puerto Rico.

Kenny was pure class. Hatton not in his league.

  • A true scottish legend. Does anyone know if Ken's a hibs or a hearts fan?

  • his son is a big Celtic man

  • i dont think he was that bothered about footie, but i think he was more Hibs leaning. Came from that side of town aswell.

  • he used to drink with my grandad and he wasnt really that interested in football but he was a hibs fan.

  • Duran said Buchanan was the toughest (not hardest) opponent he fought

  • and luckly for ken buchanan he never met duran again, duran got better and better. a rematch betweeen the two would have lasted one or two rounds duran would have killed him.

  • lucky for jim watt he never had to fight roberto duran, roberto would have killed hm.

  • yeah he does look like alex arther i sed tht 2 my m8

  • A********** post

  • is it just me or does a young buchanan look very much like alex arthur?

  • Thanks for the comments guys.

  • Wonderful documentary. Thanks!

  • listen to the great scottish writer hugh mcilvaney the greatset sports/boxing writer ever in my opinion up there with norman mailor and bert sugar."KENNY! DAE WHIT YER MAMMIE TELLS YE!" great scottish patter.

  • You've done it again robertholland, thanks for sharing this. Good stuff man.

  • I believe your mam was there Ken.A true man in every sense of the word.A scottish great.

  • Beautifull footage and great homage to a great guy!

  • Great!
