Cracks me up...after the song, Todd almost gets hit in the face with the outside mic. Then Ox says to Jason "How about that G!", referring to the high G post that Jason hit.
Thank you. I have been waiting forever for the rest of that video and anything more you have Acoustix. No quartet will ever come close to them! Joel is great...But the Jeff Oxley days own!!! Jeff Oxley is God.
Once you win the gold you have to at least change 2 members and your name to compete again. Acoustix is still around. Joel Rutherford, the bass for Glory Days, is the bass for them. Joel and Rick are now in Glory days and competed for the first time this July. They came in 6th. Pretty good for their first International.
That is a BAD rule. The rules for Texas University Interscholastic League, Ensemble competition, a winning ensemble cannot win two years in a row, but can compete to win after 2 years. I think the standards would be raised if the professional level had the same system, letting a group be King of the Hill as long as they are worthy.
I think it would be cool if every 5 years or so they had a competition between the gold medal winners for those past 5 years, or 10 years. That would be an exciting competition.
it would indeed, but if you win like the year after that competition, you'd have to stay in shape for another four years, while the winners from that year can perform at their best...
I say they should have an alternative championship where any quartet can compete nomatter who won the years before...
Of course most of the time, for the first couple of years anyway, after a victory they are booked nearly every weekend. That's why I thought going out 5 years would be good cause most of them will stay togehter and keep singing anyway. Or do it like the choruses and let them come back every third year if they want to.
Well the actual reason they do not allow past champs to compete actually came around after the second or third international back in the 1940's. After the Bartesville Barflies were unable to repeat as champs they instituted the "once a champion always a champion rule"
in the sheet music it starts in the key of G and then theres a key change to A-flat.

Jeff Oxley was the original bass and is the one in this video. Joel Rutherford didn't join the group until later.

I think they are the best of all time. I mean think about it.
-They won their first time out.
-Come out with 5 awesome cd's
-Lasted 17 years and counting!!
-They epitomize what a quartet should sound like.
