pleasant to see ) , to any horse it's exactly like a pinch, due to the muscular structure of horses .

In Italy a driver is allowed to whip the horse only in finish straight and only when he's engaged in the fight x the 3 best places , under the condition of not exxagerating with it.

If a driver doesn't respect the rule , he's disqualified and fined for a couple of times

and banned from any riding activity for 2 months starting since the 3rd time on far .....

Varenne was like a son for the driver and still it is , it's probably the most beloved champ here in Italy still today, so put apart your worries on an eventual brutal treatment on Varenne , that was a very special occasion, you know ....the world record , but you can see the same driver in all the other races with Varenne pushing the horse just giving it a few little kicks on the rear

No horse has been more loved, well treated and nursed by Giampaolo Minnucci than Varenne : since several years the horse is living in Sweden where it's a stallion and his fellow driver at least once a year goes to Sweden to see Varenne and bring to it some carrots

which are Varenne's preferred food .

@RoberTastic Viscous whipping??? Come on man,first off once the driver hit the 3/4 he saw the time and knew if he pushed Varenne that he would break the world record. Secondly that was no whipping they were mild taps to the sulky and the horse. You wanna see real whipping then go to Aqueduct racetrack in NYC where horses come back butchered. There are several Jockey's at that track that need anger management therapy and I know several owners who keep away from those jocks. Regards to you!

SBII's win in the Arc, against one of the best fields ever assembled is where his overall rating comes from. IMO he would have to rank as the greatest ever. And the folks at Timeform agree ;)
