I always wondered, why every noble woman didn't breastfeed they babys, even if they wanted too. It was in EVERY nation that way, back in the old enturies. Why did the court didn't let them breastfeeding? I don't get it :(
@frostkiss2 It was sort of like a sign of their noble status, almost like they were putting themselves above the activites of a commoner. Regretfully this included nursing their own.
Is her servant in the book also named "Shonagon?" If so, it's kind of funny that Shikibu-san named her character's servant after her literary rival (Sei Shonagon.)
