You can hardly blame the emu. What was Rod Hull thinking, bringing a wild bird on to the stage while Zavaroni and Kennedy-Cairns were singing? Of course the emu was going to start attacking people. It was out of it's natural habitat and couldn't escape. I know Hull liked to spend time with the emu (you will be hard pushed to find a clip of him without it) but just this once, he should have fannied about on stage without it. The dirty bird went right up Zavaroni's anus at one stage!

Lena's voice is much more convincing than Lulu in this great cover version, I wish she had recorded more of this sort of material. She had a voice that was well suited to rhythm and blues and rock 'n roll. Check out the original Fujiyama Mama by Anisteen Allen to see what I mean.

I mention the original because people have only heard Wanda's version and assume wrongly it is the original version. Lulu is all screech and sings from the throat because she isn't a natural black American. Listen to her dreadful version of Shout by the Isleys.

Both good singers, but there is something hard about Lulu. Probably armed her better for a long showbusiness career. But Lena seems more real somehow ...Can't quite pin it down. I'm a Scot I like Lena's unapologetic accent . Like Lulu's 'London' voice , Sheena Easton does that fake US accent  which drives me mad!

She underwent the surgery in a last-ditch effort to relieve the very deep depression she'd suffered for many years.
