The cowling around the Pratt, kinda kill's the great lines of the Cessna 195...
That and the wing tanks, they really kill the artistic lines... But the Pratt in the
nose, that might be better than the Jake... Some might say that a "rubber band"
is better than sitting behind a Jake up front... A "Shaky Jake" that is... I have seen this airplane in a couple of Jimmy's ad's for "Leeward Air Park"... There
are just certain airplanes that have great lines, the Cessna 195 is one of them...
@Jshmo34 - That's a P&W R985 running 450HP. Quite rare to see one on the nose of a C-195. It's the same engine as a Howard DGA-15P, a Super Stearman, Beech Stagger Wing, and a DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver.
@LethalHobo seems to be a longer range version of a 195 hence the wing tanks and larger more powerful engine. what engine it has i am not sure, but it certainly is a rare bird!
@LethalHobo ok i just found some info on this plane. all 196s are is modified 195s with P&W radials, and added wing tanks for longer range and higher speed. the advantage that im going to guess on is that it can cover more ground for longer periods of time. i hope this helps to the mystery of the 196. im not claiming to know that this info is solid, im just going by a little research.

It's the climb performance that should be outstanding. Wonder how they plan
to keep the wings on ? Cessna 195's have a AD Note on the wings now.
At one time, you had to strap two, 2 inch diameter steel bars that were
61/2 ft long, one on each side of the main spar.. Some 195's would flex the
wings so much in ruff air, that they would crack the side windows. The main
spar sets right over your head, you could hear the wings creaking, even
over the engine noise...
