Fan questioning Jeff Lynne @ VH1 Storytellers taping: "... I was wondering if you might could do a couple of your old Idle Race songs?"
Jeff to fan: "Oh yeah. Sure, no problem." (audience cheers) ... "Not tonight though, 'cos we haven't practiced 'em." (punchline drum fill by Greg Bissonette, audience giggles)

This great album was released in November 1969 and two months later Jeff Lynne was a member of the Move. Straight action. It is said he had frustrated the lack of the commercial success. Maybe Jeff had a plan to join the Move anyway after finishing this album.
Isn't it great!? This is on the second Idle Race album in 1969, just called "The Idle Race." Get the double CD set called "Back To The Story." It has both albums with Jeff and all of their singles too.
ahead of their time as far as recording 'atmosphere', it seems to me...

I honestly have to say, that Jeff Lynne was the best-looking one out of all the members of the Idle Race. He was absolutely adorable!

Isn't this just what Elo would sound like live, without the use of backing tracks?

The second album of the Idle Race was a real masterpiece. It was one of the best albums in the late 1960´s without doubt.
But not underrating Birthday Party. It was also marvellous.
