This video makes me sadly, yet strangely comfortable. Just the way they chant the chorus "We will live forever and you know it's true," leaves you numb like you've accepted death and your just waiting for it to take you away. And the way Mangum sings.... He sings as if he were to die at the end of the song, like his final words. The most emotion I've ever heard put into this song. Fantastic video. My only regret is that i wasn't there to witness this live.
they slowly made their way out from backstage into the crowd while the rest of the E6 were up on stage finishing the song "Forever". Jeff and Julian performed this song right in the middle of the floor, with the crowd circled around them, looking inward. What a great ending to the evening.
oh my godddd.. it feels so great to see him playing something so recently and his voice is still so excellent THANK GOD!!!! he will always be this good
Is this the only song he did that night? I heard something about Mangum doing a movie. Anybody know anything about that? How about that post on Elephant 6 website? fake or hype for a comeback?
When he did this song it made me kind of float above and out of the moment, and when everyone cheered wildly at the end it seemed too sudden and too loud and I felt almost sorry for him; I felt that Jeff mangum was a genius and shouldn't be brought down to the level of mere entertainment, that everyone should have remained silent in respect to what they had witnessed.
but that's just me and my weirdness. I was completely fucking stunned.
what you just said sounds so pretentious and phony. I know I didn't go hog wild after his performance but I do remember clapping. It was a haunting, beautiful moment that left me in chills, but your comment is on the level of idolatry. it's something way too many nmh fans are guilty of, is embarrassing, and detracts from what jeff mangum was trying to do. People like you are the reason the dude practically never comes out of his shell.
Yeah, i get what you're saying allmanvibe, it does sound pretentious, however i didn't go to the show just to see him, as im sure many people there did, so that when he played such a simple song with so much emotion in it and people went wild i felt like they were just cheering because it was him, not because it was an amazing performance... if that makes any sense at all... maybe i am just pretentious haha
i know!!! i actually have been like...searching. fucking SEARCHING. asking around, googling, trying to find hidden messages of when his shows will be in his songs =P well, not really. but you know what i mean...
I hope Jeff comes to Scotland one day to play, would just be awwh amazing. So jealous of all those who got to stand that close to him while he played engine.
heh, well robert schneider was there with jeff but it was some tall dude standing next to me that reached up waving and yelled "not yet!" I was not so quick on my toes
it was a really great show.. the whole thing! I'd like to see a setlist if anyone's got one. But yeah, standing a foot away from Jeff singing Engine.. that memory is a keeper.
i was standing right in front of him!!! my camera battery died right before he started playing, but i managed to record the audio on my phone. sooooo amazing!
i know he's done this like... five times now. but each time i see one of these performances, it feels like magic. it sends the shivers down my spine and i can't breathe.
This melody is amazing, sounds like a folk sing-a-long that has been written for hundreds of years. What a song.

This. Is. Amazing.
It was an extremely long 4 hours that preceded this, but it was so so worth it! And it was at the Bottom Lounge, not empty bottle.

Hear how nervous the crowd sound when he steps out. Almost as though they're afraid they'll scare him away or something. That's respect.

The only thing I know is that he played Engine a couple days earlier at the Wexner Center in Columbus, OH. And it was amazing.

that really sucks for me, since I live right between Columbus and Chicago. He's such an amazing artist.
