Having just returned from Xiamen, I can say I would never trust anyone but a taxi driver to get around there. I, also, only saw one accident, and it was 2 private drivers. I was often amazed where they could fit the taxi, but I never felt unsafe.
In China, traffic lights are pretty much meaningless to both drivers and pedestrians. Not sure why that is. In the big cities though they are trying to crack down on pedestrians ignoring the signal lights. Someone once told me that the Chinese are able to create 3 lanes out of two lanes of traffic! Despite all this, I've only seen one accident, and this was on a sidestreet in Shanghai. I was walking to the Family Mart when a scooter (she ran a red light) got clipped by a van. She went flying.
What you don't hear are the car horns. I use my horn in the states once a year. They use their horn in Xiamen once a block. I almost wrecked every single time I took a taxi or a bus. I do love the city, great and pretty place!
I was in Xiamen in April and the traffic there is unreal...nothing like the states...it's amazing how well it flows....they have no traffic rules, so it's first man first...
OMG! My son is living in Putian and travels here on weekends sometimes. This does not bring me comfort! lmaooo! That is hilarious and scary! What are the "rules" for driving here?
it was very scarey trying to cross the road I can tell you !!! Also I thought being in a taxi was safer but it was even worse. No one gives way for anyone. Funny to watch it again though,. well done for capturing it
the last time i was there, a enormous lorry with stones crush with us..its amazing and people who cross the street goes slowly, cause if not, conductors cant realize that you are there and can take you away with the car.... sorry for my english... that video is very funny with that song!
hahahha i´ve been in xiamen two times, and i was FRIGHTENED people doesnt care nothing, they dont mind nothing. the funny thing is that people dont crush betwen them, thats amazing. but when they crush, imagine...
