  • Who's the music from?

  • beautiful work

  • This movie made me shed a man tear... I shed many for 5 cm per second

  • Why cant disney do stuff like this =/

  • Makoto Shinkai's film is very emotional..

  • First time I see this trailer of the movie and the character just voices the words that I´ve been saying in my head for about 3 weeks. This kind of things if freaky.. but .. settling in some way.

  • oh god the place promised in our early days made me cry so much. I was sobbing like crazy.

  • the music is beautiful

  • I searched for this after seeing this wallpaper wallbase. cc/wallpaper/3250 and this reminds me of Miyazaki's work in Studio Ghibli productions, beautiful!

  • @jrydland For me Shinkais movies are a million times better than any ghibli production. (I'm totally aware of the fact that the comparison isn't possible 1:1 - I based it upon the fact it has to my emotions)

  • All of the works I've seen by Makoto Shinkai seems to lack anything dramatic (or at least overly dramatic), but the detail and effort of the small, little details he puts into his works draws me in. I'm emotionally moved by everything he does, even if I can't really name why. It's like moving around in a fog, but I'm not particularily willing to leave that uncertain feeling. I love your work, Makoto Shinkai...

  • Ah this is such an amazing anime, I love Makoto Shinkai's work.

  • Wait, is this a trailer or a short?

  • talk about Vertigo jesus

  • Makoto's work seems to capture true love, not just the happy, but the painful, the unbearable suffering brought by true love. The loneliness it brings, and the fear of losing the one you love most. The value of true friendship, and the betrayal of the real world. That's what really gets me, i think.

  • makoto does movies that have two distant lovers, promising to meet at a place.i noticed...

  • 0:38 - 0:48 was anyone else reminded of assassin's creed?

  • Simply love, yet a complications of love too

    Beautiful :D

  • whoa hang on.. i never saw some of the scene in this vid in the movie, is this another version of it???

  • i've just discoverd him yesterday.

don't know what to say except: he's simply amazing

    i adore his art :)

  • still 5cm per second is better than this.. of course makoto shinkai did that one too.. but i watched this film and compared the two.. and came up with the conclusion that 5cm per second is far more hurtful than this...

  • @itoumakoto1980 Maybe it's because we can relate to 5 Cm Per Second easier than this movie.

  • @N2Lucky yeah probably. and because this movie had a happy ending too... not unlike the other one.. 5cm per second left a scar on all of its viewers.. that's the most depressing anime movie i've ever seen at least for me...

  • @itoumakoto1980 I found that 5 Cm had a sad story but a happy ending. It's really amazing how such a short film could have a large impact on most of it's audience.

  • @N2Lucky i don't think it's a happy ending.. hahaha LOL

  • @itoumakoto1980 It really depends on your perspective! (I don't want to spoil anyone) but if you pay attention to the last few seconds of the movie, you'll either think that the ending was either sad or happy.

  • Comment removed

  • @N2Lucky for me it is still sad... and many viewers cried because of that scene... more of 1percent relieving and 99percent heartache.

  • @N2Lucky 1percent relieving in a sense that he moved on, 99 percent heartache in a sense that they didn't end up together and akari moved on faster.

  • @itoumakoto1980 *SPOILERS* Yeah. It's really sad if you think how they should have been together but couldn't. But it makes me happy how he was able to walk away, thinking "those were some great memories." I believe that you have to be brave to walk away from that, knowing that you'll always have that "what if" for the rest of your life.

  • @N2Lucky oh shit.. that hurts, what you said stings man.. hehe

  • It makes me happy to hear that other people might share the same thoughts of this show, and ultimately this culture. I relate only to Japan as a Japanese American, and have decided now that I must live there at all costs.

  • the animation is so bright and beautiful!!

  • i saw this movie once and i thought i'd wasted my time.

then i saw it again and i realised that i missed so much the first time.

Makoto Shinkai has an almost perfect rythem in this film, the slowness and the poetic monologues. It finds the beauty in loneliness and silence.

  • What a nice story....I'm really shock...*speechless*..Makoto Shinkai..Makoto Shinkai.....Makoto Shinkai you're now my no.1 idol and I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!

  • i heard he did most of the art himself, damn that might take long time but idc when its good as hell

  • The preview for this movie gives such a different feeling then that actual movie. The girl is the main narrator, or at least that's what I thought.

    Either way it's beautiful <3

  • @Kirit3

  • this movie was AWESOME. Makoto is GENIUS.

Watch 5 cm per second. Just as good!!

  • the UNION is so mysterious, where are those people? :)

    kinda beautiful movie anyway..

  • Unlike his other 2 movies, this one did have a happy ending.

  • Hmm... Not the best of Shinkai's works, but the one with the best music, no doubt. (Thanks to Tenmon)

I loved the most part of this movie, but it got rather slow the further into it you came. Still awesome work though.

  • I must say that I loved Tenmon's work in 5cm, especially Distant Everyday Memories. The music in Places Promised is fantastic though, I agree.

  • i remember i saw this movie and i got nothink

  • Amazingly done.....makoto 4ever!!

  • wait i thought this was like an hour or something...

  • i love Makoto Shinkai ! i love the way he draws such a beautifull sky! and the storys are always so sad an romantic

  • a promise they couldn't keep? It sounds like the movie will be so sad. I'm not sure I like the endings of some of his films. Though they speak out of the harsh reality of heart break, and having to move on from them. I'm not sure I like that they are implied to all have this sort of ending. It makes me sad. And I prefer to cry out of happiness. His thoughts and animations hold great talent behind them however- that is what I admire.

  • this is actually the place promised in our early days about three friends who made a promise to go and see the union tower but they all became enemies. .. the boy and girl 2 main love each oder... she then falls aslleeep 4 a vry lng time cuz havin a dream that cant wake her up.. watch the mvie to learn mre of it cuz im ruining it for every1

  • isnt this The Place Promised in Our Early Days?

    .

  • Yea it is. I guess it was given a different name in other regions.

  • Oh I've actually seen this haha I'm so silly. i was watching this thinking "hmmm where is this familiar" like a dumb bell. I've also seen 5 centimeters per second

  • yeah This guy is awesome

  • one of my favorite movies

  • Makoto Shinkai really is amazing. I can't wait for his next work to come out.

This particular clip is great, although it seems a bit different from the finished movie that was released

  • lol they got the tittle wrong. The place promised in our early days.

  • its also called "Beyond the Clouds." you can find it under both titles

  • the movie somehow starts slow and peaceful, in the middle it gets hard to understand, then it takes a turn.. what an amazing film

  • Not my favorite, too long, didn't make a lot of sense. Sucky cliff hanger. But I still cried xD I cry easy during movies. Love the soundtrack.

  • LOOOOOOVE MAKOTO!!!!

  • the only film by him that i did not like "love".. beautiful tho

  • i know why we watch this it is because it does show the harsh reality of human nature. It shows the things we are afraid to think about.... 0.o... that's deep.

  • ...I'm lol'ing because none of this footage was in the movie. It doesn't even look like the same art style used. The characters look completely different. It's still Makoto's...but it's just so different. I love it.

  • Eh? Is this the trailer then?

  • Comment removed

  • As I recall, Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho is a 90min film

  • Funny how almost none of the footage shown here is even in the movie itself. XD

  • Makoto Shinkai likes the themes of long distance relationships and unrequieted love. Just watched Voices of a Distant Star and 5 cm per second and I have a feeling of deja vu. Hoping he makes something new in the future.

  • The only thing I don't like on Makoto Shinkai's animes is the gray cloud that surrounds my heart after watching any of his works. It gets me a feeling of loss.

  • I know! i feel the same way. His films gives me a strange feeling of mostly sadness. i kind of look at the world difrently after seeing his movies. he must be a genius.

  • @kim0mandelli

Exactly. It's painful but beautiful at the same time.

  • @kim0mandelli Perhaps you feel lonely ...

  • @NYCPulpHero Shut up piece of shit.

  • @NYCPulpHero You fucking illiterate. Calling this emo is for retards only.

  • Comment removed

  • @kim0mandelli it happens to me all the time, the feeling of never seeing it again is just to much to my heart...

  • @kim0mandelli

that's exactly why I love his work! not everything has a happy ending, the reality of his stories makes me feel alive, and yes it does give me a feeling of sadness and my chest feels tight, but for some reason makes me appreciate what I have so much more. His work is just beautiful!
