Just got that when Kate Bush sang 'Wthering Heights' in that white gown that she was pretending to be Cathy in the white gown at the end of the 'Wuthering Heights' film when she died. God I feel stupid.
Of all the versions of Wuthering Heights, this IMHO is still the best. Although it is not he full version, I still take this version over all the newer versions. I luv how you have put Kate Bush's song to this tribute to the movie. Thank you.
Awesome job! I love annoying my friends with this song- I seem to be the only person I know who enjoys listening to it. Is this Kate Bush's original or is it live?
The original and the only version as far as I'm concerned. Oliver - brooding, temperamental, grunting like an animal, and Oberon prancing about nose in the air, appauled and ashamed of herself for loving someone beneath her. A match made in Hell. Sob like a baby every time I watch it. Wonderful song by The Divine Kate Bush.
Well, I hate this song (though I like the lyrics) but man I do ADORE seeing Olivier acting, I almost cry every time I see him working, especially as Heathcliff. Olivier is the definition of acting! And Merle Oberon, I can't believe she did not get nominated for her part as Cathy in this movie. Amazing!!!
Glad I'm not the only one that hates this song but ADORES this movie. Actually I think it must have something to do with Kate Brush. She sings another song I'm familar with and I don't really care for that either - so it's definitely my dislike of this particular singer. But it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. :)
LOL! To be honest that is the only "Kate Bush" song I know of but I am with you on this one, totally! Her voice is truly annoying so I can't imagine it being good in any other song. This movie is timeless!!!
Holy crap.. I was off school 40 years ago and watched this film.. it made me cry and I was embarassed HAHAHA.. I love the Kate Bush tune.. probably because it reminded me of the film.. I'm watching again and it made me cry AGAIN..Damn.. it 's a very powerful film.. Great film, great song.. thanks for posting. :o)
the rock at pennistone cragg where was it actually shot. the film was based on the countryside around haworth where the brontes lived. i love it there what a great day out. i taped this film 22 years ago off the telly and ive still got it.
I would so love to see this place. I have two awesome kids I send to private schools in America, so I can not see this place yet, one day I will, hopefully.
Which one? I've seen the one with Timothy Dalton (1970) recently, which was good and some years ago I've seen the Ralph Fiennes/Juliette Binoche version. But I remember that I didn't like that one, probably because I don't like Ralph Fiennes very much. Honestly I cannot remember much of it. There's an italian version which I don't know neither.
@nemibaj I think it's a GREAT song and this is the best fan-made video for this song that I have seen. Even includes "The End" when it's over, which is a nice touch.
A beautiful video. Well done. You have captured the essence of the story so well. Laurence Olivier is simply brilliant as the brooding Heathcliff, and the beautiful Merle Oberon evokes the feelings and intensity of the story. It is never easy to accompany pictures with thought-provoking music. You have done it brilliantly. Well done!
What I cannot understand is if you do not like Costume dramas as well as literature, why the heck you would come and comment on a video of that kind? *sigh* I hate anime, but I would not go and comment on a video that I do not like it, do you have too much time on your hands?
people have different taste. of course, while i can still type, can't i just write what i feels? maybe you really like this movie, but i saw a better version. what's wrong?
Why watch a video with this movie if you don't like it? Sometimes people don't like to hear about how much you hate costume dramas. It would have been nicer had you said "Oh even though I don't particularly like this movie version, you did a beautiful job on the video" That might of been a nicer thing to say...
IMO, it's wrong that you choose to comment negatively instead of just chalking this genre up to "not one of your favorites" and moving on. There are lots of videos on you tube i am not a fan of, so i just don't comment. I don't go out of my way to be negative about them because i hate the movie or the song. People take a good deal of time to create videos and constructive comments are welcome, as they relate to the video, not to the genre the video represents. So for me, that's what's wrong
Yes to be honest I wasn't interested in what happened to Cathy and Heathcliff's children, it was more about them for me and Laurence Olivier made a lovely Heathcliff
I was a bit disappointed with this movie version of the book. I expected it to be great, but it was just OK for me. It's not bad as a stand-alone film, but I don't think it's a good movie adaption because IMO it doesn't capture the spirit of the book. All the lovely rough angles of the book have been softened and toned down, and that kills it for me. Heathcliff, for instance, is too nice and soft in this film. Still, I absolutely loved Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff! He's an amazing actor.
I agree, Heathcliff's character was toned down quite a bit. The book is always the best way to go for being genuine and original (obviously), but that totally doesn't mean the movie isn't incredible not only as entertainment but (like you said) Laurence Olivier's acting was amazing for what he set out to do. :)
Yay! I just watched the whole movie last night and I SOBBED my eyes out... it was amazing. The book is incredible because of it's awesome depth and this version captures that depth so wonderfully! Laurence Olivier made a dashing, magnetic Heathcliff and overall it was so full of emotion! Definitely one of my favorites now!!!
I know! :) It is so good, I always cry at Cathy's death scene and how Heathcliff/Laurence acts, the I cannot live with out my soul scene gets me every time.
I can't WAIT to see this! I heard it's the best version and it definitely looks that way! I'm ordering it NOW! I just finished the book and am totally mesmerized... By the way, what song is this???
But the finest and most beautiful performance in the movie was Geraldine Fitzgerald's performance (as Cathy's sister Isabella), especially when Cathy slaps her on her face in the bedroom scene.. >> Paul Miller
What do you think about this movie? Is it nice? But it doesn't show the second generation, does it? It only shows the first part of the book...am I wrong? Please, help me!!
You do get to see his death, sort of, it starts out that many years have passed and as you know the new tenant of the Linton's home has to stay there and heathcliff rushes out into the snow in search of Cathy's ghost, and then the housekeeper tells the story, and Dr Kenneth comes to see her at the end and tells her he saw Heathcliff in the snow, or thought he did, but he was dead, and he was with a woman, and the housekeeper tells him it was Cathy and Heathcliff.
watched the 1992 movie today. have to say i enjoyed laurence more playing heathcliffe. heathcliffe and cathy in the 1992 movie didnt convience me that they loved each other. in this movie u can see it. heathcliffe actions in this movie were more real if u can say than to 1992 heathcliife he was just a control freak (no Offence) ONCE AGAIN GREAT MOVIE. glad i brought this one. thanks for the clip
I agree. This black and white version is 100 times better than some of the modern adaptations. In the version with Merle Oberon and Lawrence Olivier, you feel the passion of these two lovers, and the ending cuts like a knife!
beautiful movie. just watched it today. cant wait to watch it again. Laurence Olivier performed a great role playing Heathcliffe. this story can be related to everyday life of this day. People do marry not for love but for material things. this movie truly shows that a life without love can only bring unhappiness to all involved. great movie

Por què me sacaron el video "GALICIA-CUMBRES BORRASCOSAS"?????estoy re triste por favor, insisto para que lo coloquen otra vèz o aunque sea me manden la mùsica porFAVOR))) Andercen.
Love this movie. Actually Sir Laurence & Merle did not get along on the set, perhaps it helped make the movie better? David Niven was to marry her, but she was part Indian & back then that was a no no.
Yes I too heard that, I also heard that Laurence was a bit resentful of her as he had wanted Vivian Leigh to play Cathy, so that didn't exactly help on set relations, but they had a great chemistry because of it. :D
I love the ballroom scene, and I think this is a later version of the song from what other people have told me and that is why KB sounds a bit different. I am not an expert enough to tell, lol.
Great song....I remember the BW movie too....I was six. Well done Kate......♥♥♥

Sounds like a live rendition of the song?...Either way, lovely interpretation--My favorite version of the film; Nice!
That ball-room scene; Classic!!!!

I love the ballroom scene, and I think this is a later version of the song from what other people have told me and that is why KB sounds a bit different. I am not an expert enough to tell, lol.
