the sound you hearing sounds different cause the materials used to make the slim models are thinner so you hear it more. the older models were thicker material so it does not sound like that. but i can almost guarantee you that both drives eject the disc in the same manner.

Sometimes when I eject discs from the ps3 slim, it immediately shoots them right back in forcing me to grab the disc before it enters back into the system. It's been doing this a lot and is getting rather annoying. Has this happened to anyone?

My ps3 slim does the same thing, I have the 160gb version, had it for nearly a year and strangely I never noticed it until now. I think i was listening for faults because someone else had previously tried to push a disc into the drive rather than letting the drive suck it in automatically, so I got concerned and thought it was a bit loud... I have to admit it sounds like a hole punch on exit but I've tried several discs and I can't say it sounds unhealthy for the PS3 so I wouldnt worry about it.

Roughly a year later, how is your Slim functioning?

Mine had to be sent in to Sony because the drive, while still capable of reading discs, was making a distracting buzzing/vibrating noise during playback.

I got it back and it has a new drive that has a smoother eject noise with slightly quieter operation and a case that does not pop during expansion due to temperature change.

i would not mind if it's noisy if the console works correctly and cools fine. But what i have to say that some little noises, like the blu ray disk reading in games like rdr, or for example, if u hear close the rear right part of the ps3 while dloadin a game, mades a clickin noise which i suppose is from the hd readin... well all i have to say is that when i turn on my pc, mutes the ps3, can't hear any noise or clickin from it, and i prefer the pc, cos despite it's louder, it sounds more solid

Hey I just got a 250gb ps3, and I also have a brand new ps3 120gb. The first thing I noticed about the 250gb was the thumping noise, something that didn't happen to the 120gb. So maybe some are like that and some are normal? Has anything happened to your slim up until now?

i just noticed mine has been doing this, im pretty sure it didnt do it before, i would have noitced, mine does it while inserting the disc aswell but ejecting is worse, and as im typing this ive just tried it again and it no longer does it :| im guessing the eject gears get out of alignment or something and it fixed itself? i dont think it is anything to be concerned about, looks like you have a back up anyway :)

i think the thumping noise has something to do with the piece that spins the disc i dont know what its called ...but since u eject the disc the magnet and the piece that spins the disc releases the disc so it can eject the disc...or i can be wrong..well this is my opinion ..but its completly normal it will not damage your games or the drive ...its completly Normal

since i dont mind the sound which is a very minor problem which wont damage the disk , i dont find a reason to do that. Plus, i got both xbox 360 and ps3 so i'm not a fanboy of either side, those who set their expectations too high would always complain about these small problem. In my opinion, xbox 360 is the worst in console design expecially the power brick damn it takes up lots of space, you be grateful to sony that at least their console design and failure rate is much lesser than the 360

there are many models of ps3, but the fat version ie (20,40,60,80,160 gb) no longer in production, the only ones they produce now is the slim ie (120, 250 gb) the fats had many differences between each model.

this is normal. In my opinion this is not due to the cheapness of the PS3 Slim but rather the compactness of it; the BD Drive is very close to the plastic. Unlike on the Fat PS3, when you remove the top cover of the PS3 Slim you'll get to see the components immediately.

The plastic surrounding the system drive also has more excess room for sound vibration, and the plastic mold of the system is not the same so there is going to be differences. The PS3 Slim is more similar to the plastic used in the SNES, more of a hollowed shell.
