First time I ever saw it, I was up in the middle of the night with a horrible cold. Every time I laughed I practically hacked up a lung. That's about 56 lungs. If laughter is the best medicine, then why didn't I feel better? Maybe watching it was the last act of a desperate man.
You could never make a movie like that in this present political climate, but it is so overdue. If you want to get rid of hatred and prejudice, make it hilarious. Its hard to hate when your laughing your ass off!
@jamerson1000: With people like Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright, and Jesse Jackson running around, there will NEVER be another movie like Blazing Saddles. It would be awesome though.
Mr. Brooks told a story of screening Blazing Saddles for some studio honchos who told Brooks that just about everything that they deemed offensive had to be taken out of the film before it could be released. Well, Brooks decided not to remove any of the offensive material, and, when it was screened for a preview audience, everyone fell on the floor laughing at the opening joke "Dock that chink a day's pay for nappin' on the job". The studio relented and released it as it was.
This past January at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, California, they showed a full week of Mel Brooks films. On a Friday they screened Blazing Saddles and History of the World Pt 1, & there was not a single empty seat. Mr. Brooks showed up and took questions between the films and he was damned funny too, answering questions with voices, schtick and fart sounds, like the Borscht belt comic that he is. I got to shake his hand out in the lobby. cont...
great video. thanks gardenshed. you may be interested to know that i visited my friend peter today to see his new gardenshed. nice but a little too hot in their under the tin roof and no windows.
Great vid, gerdenshed. This film really cemented Brooks as a comic genius in my view. There were a number of hilarious scenes, and some that would today be considered politically incorrect. Brooks was, however, an equal opportunity offender - he took shots at every race, creed ,color, and religion. Take care friend. Jim
