  • They do sexually suggestive things on today's cartoons.

  • anyone got a video of Pookie singing Banana Boat?

I thought that one one truly classic Pookie

  • No wonder the boomers are so cool.

  • THAT IS EARLY STEVE WONDER, you can tell by that little high note harp thing he does occasionally, together with his "ha-ha, ye-ah", which is a signature Steve sound.

  • "Hi-Heel Sneakers" written by Tony Tucker. Many singers have covered this song, but I can't tell whose version this is.

  • @randall2020 This version is by Stevie Wonder.

  • @trinketbox1: Mothra delights in your poetic comment. Beautifully put! Peace to you and all Soupy fans from way up here! Love, Mothra

  • i remember one show where pookie got a pie and i laughed till i got a headache always love soupy and even saw him once as i ddrove through brooklyn yelled out hey boobie and he laughed and waved

  • Love You, Soup!

Hate to throw a wrench in, but at times, Soup resembles Mel Gibson.

Please don't throw any wrenchs back. Wenchs are okay, but not wrenchs.

  • Made back when you had nothing . . . but you now realize you really had it all.

  • Pookie had great taste! One of Stevie's early classics.

  • Wow. A lot of Soupy's adult humor went way over my head back then. It's great to see this stuff again now - it makes me appreciate just how well he was able to appeal to kids and adults at the same time.

  • RIP Soupy...Go Pookie go.....

  • Awesome!

  • you were great i love you pokie

  • i am the lord of hell

  • A lot more ironic than people might think... at one point, Soupy was signed to Motown as a recording artist, and one of the musicians in the Motown "Funk Brothers" rhythm section (Joe Messina) worked on Soupy's ABC show!

  • Soupy was unknown in Britain so I only became aware of him through YouTube. And I'm glad I did. One hell of a funny guy!

  • Soupy and Pookie were the best!

  • SesAme street is Nowheresville.

  • only cloaked as a kid show, nocartoons. an open window a door-jamb with speak-easy peep-slot, two different colored gloves, a hand puppet and the daily can of shaving cream(pies). who needs a seinfeld or raymond budget? simple if not so wholesome fun

  • AGREED-where else could you see a sock puppet lion scat singing Stevie Wonder while the "host" dances along??

  • Comment removed

  • I remember my older brother watching the show through the window while he was painting the outside of the house. He fell off the ladder laughing at Words of Wisdom!

  • I kept waiting for Pookie turn around and do his little "booty dance." Do you guys remember that?

  • RIP Soupy ..Such a better time back then.

  • yeah a better time when women had no rights, gays were put in the closet and rich white men ruled the world!

  • I was a huge Soupy fan back in the day. When the network was going to cancel him, I sent them a letter and they answered me back explaining the cancellation. I still have the letter. Nobody does kid's TV the way Soupy did. Okay, Seseme Street is a close second.

  • Soupy: so do you have a little number for us today

Pookie: yeah but she could'nt make it!

Can you imagine trying to get away with that today? LOL Soupy, RIP

  • That joke was funny and clever.

  • I'm pretty sure you could get away with that, yea.

  • Soupy always made me laugh and had great timing! Too bad young people today don't have true talent like he had - no profanity, just simple gems and funny bits. He will be missed

  • Hia Pok!, Hia Bubbie! No one can ever replace you soupy! No one will ever forget you! You are the shining star in the sky tonight! Will always love you!!

  • People nowadays don't realize how great live TV comedy was back then. Soupy, Pookie, White Fang, Blacktooth, Peaches and everyone else on the show - I will miss your silliness, your ad libs and your flubs. Laughter is the best gift that can be given, Soupy, and you gave it to us in spades. Thank you so much.

  • I couldn't wait to get home and watch him. We have lost another bit of our innocence and childhood. Give St. Pete a custard inna puss. RIP Soupman

  • Sure glad we still have some of these great clips and complete shows in the archives. They don't make 'em like Soupy anymore. Rest in Peace. I'm gonna miss ya, but have great memories of "Lunch with Soupy".

  • RIP, Milton Supman!

  • Soup was Broadcasting from Detroit at this time

  • What a blast! I forgot how much fun it was to come home from school and enjoy watching Soupy and all his sublime silliness. I feel bad that kids today don't have anyone like Soupy to keep them company. RIP to an old friend (and thanks for the autograph!)

  • R.I.P. Soupy. Thanks for the laughs.

  • i was born in the 70's so i didnt have the privilage of watching soupy sales. i grew up with the Wallace and Ladmo Show here in Arizona. But as my uncles and father have told me soupy sales was a true genius and for all ages. pure entertianment.

RIP SOUPY SALES other generations can enjoy watching you as i have done.

  • I just found some of soupy's DVD at Netflix

  • I just read somewhere that Soup used to be a song and dance man. No wonder he danced so well! What a nut!! You'll be missed, dear Friend.

  • And Soupy continues to provide joy and laughter. Thank you

  • Hi Folks, Who do I hear? That's 'Little' Steavie Wonder, eh? I love the Soup. Check out Cifford Brown video on YouTube. Jay

  • No comedian today can compare to Soupy. In the last month we have lost so many dear friends.

  • RIP Soup-man

  • Rest in peace Soupy. I am truly sad today but you gave us so much joy when we were kids. What a wonderful show. We used to have his album, "Spy with a Pie" somewhere in the house, can't find it now :( I saw the "green pieces of paper" show too, thought it was really funny. Bless you Soup.

  • Rose I may know a place to get it. I wish there was a way to let you know.

  • RIP Soupy Sales. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of my childhood.

  • I loved his appearance on "The Beverly Hillbillies" where he played a decorated Air Force pilot - he appeared during the shows' eighth season-

  • Soupy Sales later recorded an album and released a single on Motown, called "Muck-arty Park" (a parody of Macarthur Park) in 1969 - I have that single on CD, and it sounds fascinating - RIP Soupy, you will be missed-

  • LEGEND!!! He was one of the best. A truly nice man as well. Met him after a performance at a comedy club several years ago and he was genuine in his love of his fans. Thanks for all laughs and great memories. Heaven is smiling!!

  • You were the Best.... Rest in Peace, Soupy.......

  • Believe it or not, I actually SAW the infamous "little green pieces of paper" bit he did on WNEW-TV back on Jan. 1, 1965! I didn't send him any money because I didn't know what "Puerto Rico" was. Rest in piece, Soupy!

  • No more Soup for You! RIP funny man,

  • Soupy was the Man....Along with Sandy Becker, Chuck McCann....Wow ..,life was so great back then....A man who truly left his mark on TV and entertainment history for us Boomers...He will be sorely missed !!! RIP Soup!!!

  • It's obvious from this clip why "black" people, including me, adored Soupy. A comic genius. Rest in peace, soul brother.

    Paul Lee

  • He haD aN iNNocenT smiLe--

LiFe waS so mucH simpLer aNd sweeT withouT beinG "gaY" in thoSe daYs...

  • YES! I remember that song. I was searching for it earlier today. Anybody? PLEASE! I'm in that privileged group of Boomers who got to watch the show when it was brand new. Soupy, we LOVE YOU!

  • Grew up with him first with "Lunch with Soupy" and then on the insane "Soupy Sales Show" on WNEW Ch 5 in NYC. These clips on YouTube are only a tiny snippet of his genius and most all of it is better than anything on TV today. RIP

  • Rest in peace, Soupy. Thank you for your talent.

  • RIP Soupy!

  • I discovered Soupy in the early 60's and to this day, he still brings a smile to my face. I loved 'Pookie" (pet name for my wife), WF and BT were typical of rebellious youth in the 60's and so was Soupy. Thanks for the memories...

  • This guy had Soul and so did the Pookie and fang. Forever the BEST.

  • What other kid's show would open with that joke? And what other kids show of the time would have Motown?

We all knew we were watching something special. All I know is that the shows my kids watch now are half-hour commercials. Most of the hosts of this era didn't care about commercials - imagine that!

Thanks Soupy for being the really cool big brother I always wanted.

  • RIP... I used to tear home from 6th grade to catch Soup's words of wisdom and all the other nutty stuff..what a great show, although some of the most 'inappropriate stuff' for children were said on his show,....that's why we watched it. Couldn't got away with it today. Classic, classic, classic

  • Soupy, you will be with us forever. Miss ya, big guy. You made the 60's better for being there.

  • Anyone remember when Soupy sang"Pafalafaka" (sp)? What a great song! I'd love to hear it again!!!

    AAN

  • Got a BIG heart for Soupy!

    God bless him!

  • RIP SOUPY

  • This was a wonderful children's show, but my late mother used to howl at Pookie's antics!

  • Somewhere in the attic-I have a 33LP called "Pie in the Sky". I think it was the soundtrack from a Soupy Sales movie. Anyone out there remember this?

  • Do you mean "Spy with a Pie?" It had a great photo of Soupy in a spy trenchcoat with Pookie at his side. We had it too! Can't find it though.

  • Yes-thats it. I know its somewhere down in the cellar. Problem is I'd have to find a phonograph to listen to it!

  • My God! "Pookie The Lion"Puppet is doing a Stevie Wonder

    number!

  • little pookie wonder lol

  • I was in college then. My dad worked two

jobs to get me there. Soupy came on just

about the time I had to leave for class. I

would tell dad, "Hold up Black Fang is at

the door," I often wondered if he was

right..when he told me, "Are you retarded

    or what !!

  • OLOLOLOLOLOL! You guys were playing SO LOUD, I couldn't hear the HARP!!! So true for us harp players that have to play with loud lead guitar players. LOLOLOL.

  • In the 50's, we used to watch Soupy when he was still in Detroit. In addition to the kids show at noon, he also had a live late night show which featured a lot of great music ; the humor was definitely more adult but still wacky & off the wall. Our parents usually didn't let us watch it but we could hear them laughing.

  • The Late Night show had a band member named Joe Messina on guitar who was also a member of the Funk Brothers, The Motown Studio band.

  • Oh I love it!!

I am so glad I grew up in this era..

    Long live Soupy!!

  • Dear Trantrum, Soupy told me years ago..that to be a successful kids tv

host/performer? You'd either have to have alot of talent and a wonderful

personality..or you didn't dress normally and you'd have

to have a unique costume. WIth Soupy Sales..he had both.

  • A lip-synching lion puppet and a manic host. Didn't take much to entertain us kids in the old days...this looks so innocent and sweet now, even with the double entendres. Still makes me laugh.

  • Can someone tell me where I can find the words to C.O.W. spells a cow?

  • Cow spells a cow cow spells a cow A cow's the one who eats up grass And that's hou milk gets in your glass cow spells a cow horse spells a horse horse spells a horse a horse is the one who eats up hay while the farmer does the work all day horse spells a horse There was a verse about pig,but I don't remember that at all!
  • It's amazing! Pookie sounds just like Stevie Wonder! Soupy and Pookie were the greatest!

  • His brand of innocent slapstick humor is something we"ll probably never see again. I"m glad I was a kid at that time and got to enjoy it all.

  • And they say that this is not relaventive or

funny for kids or adults? Come On! We can't today's viewers watch this and appreciate

it..instead of knocking Soupy & Pookie.

  • who's knocking them. I love it!!!

  • Soupy had the perfect costume. That sweater and bow tie!

Watched this everyday at lunch time in Redford, MI on WXYZ.

  • HA! PUNK ROCK!!!!!

  • YAY!!!!!!!!

  • Here in Australia,I'd only known about Soupy Sales by seeing his 1966 movie 'Birds Do It'. I then saw him on a 80's Dick Clark/Ed MacMahon TV special regarding a practical joke played on him during a taping of his show. Thanks for letting people elsewhere in the world aware of Soupy and his rather anarchic 60s kids show!

  • I remember Soupy came on around 5 or 6pm in the NYC viewing area. Pookie was always the show-stopper. Pookie used to do "mumbles" by Clark Terry. My mom always got a big kick out of that.

  • I'm also from NY. The 4:30 movie was over at 6:00 on WABC. This was on just before or after Dark Shadows.

  • This and all the other shows were and are great. I wish my kids and grand kids could have seen these showsin their entirety.

  • This is the greatest thing EVER.

    POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK !

  • The cast and the crew always seemed to be having a great time doing the show. That's what made it so much fun to watch: they had fun, you had fun! As a nine year old, I had no idea what was going on, but I had a great time watching it. Thanks for the post.

  • Hard to believe America was ever this innocent.....I wish you had the one where he had a spider that played piano and sang "Autumn in New York"

  • It on here, I just saw it. Search for Soupy Sales and Alice Cooper. ;)

  • This show is funny,hip and real! Let's see"Pee Wee"Herman do this?!

  • Pookie, you is a cool cat! Yass, yass, yass!

  • Yay, Pook! Heyyyyyyyy, Bubbie!

  • Is he singing to Little Stevie Wonder? I didn't realize as a 12 year old how hip the music on Soupy's show was!

  • Tommy Tucker (Robert Higginbotham) Hi-Heeled Sneakers-1964.

  • This is obviously Stevie Woner, even if you never heard Tommy Tucker's version.

  • Pookie, YES!

  • GO............POOK
