this is the the closest i've heard to the song i remember first hearing on one of my dad's flatpicking vinyls kicking mules presents or something. anyway props to this guys he does a beautiful job of bringing this piece of music to life.
Steve Cooney....world class guitar man , this tune was written by Turlough O Carolan for the harp and it relates to 2 places in my native County Leitrim..Ireland. Turlough would be well pleased with Steves playing. I believe..
@elrossothematch ..........yes its spelt the English way, Sheemore, and it is in the middle of the County not far from Carrick on Shannon....(the late Turlough is buried in Kilronan Cemetary, about 10 miles off), ........you'd be welcome round that part of the country if ever visiting.......
Reminds me of the way I'd rearrange/embellish a classical tune on guitar! This is great, anyone that could bash on this guy prolly aint an artist themselves, if they were, they'd understand and appreciate if naught else
I've missed the previous nasty comments(thankfully) and have just enjoyed the marvellous playing of the man, reminds me of an Irish guitarist...damnit, his name escapes me.
I'll be back when i remember it!...oh i just did. Arty McGlyn. I wonder if he's here on YT? Another night of no work coming up a...
@culmie steve cooney and arty mcglynn played this tune live in 2005, the video is on youtube, just search the two names, its the best version you will hear

For you who criticize this man in such childish way I say - look in the mirror and you will see a deadshit. Cooney has more talent in his little finger than you could ever have and is a wonderful human being. I have known him for over 25 years.
Sorry "Obeseatheist". I naively thought that this place was made for tolerant and openminded peoples. Unfortunately, I was wrong: we will probably have racist and chauvinistic comments in this tribune soon, even when talking about music...How sad!
It is really annoying that some folks feel an urge to bash a musician instead of listening to the music. What do we care if he looks like a shaman or a new age weirdo? Is there some sort of uniform to play folk music? Would you like him to wear a tuxedo or a business suit? And finally, man: pedophiles are not particularly noted for their hippy hairstyle...
In my opinion this video is a gem, Jimi Hendrix, Ravi Shankar and (not least) Tim Edey are (or were) all great musicians. I might add that neither using a capo nor playing 'trad' indicate a lack of proficiency or musicianship.
I would venture to suggest that 'MrManTits' would save others time and effort spent reading about the chip on his shoulder by shortening his name simply to 'tit'.
I'd agree with you about the capo thing if what they were playing was simplistic and uninteresting, I'm aware of the advantages of playing without a capo (I don't use one). But their approach enables them to play expressively in a way that is distinctive and works well in the genre.
It may be easier with the capo approach but it clearly enables them to express what they want better, no bad thing. Also I've seen Tim play great without a capo.
He may not be a pedophile: how many do you know? Is there a "pedophile look"?. I cannot criticize him musically. I just hear an O'Carolan tune played with exquisite accuracy on an accoustical guitar. Give Steve Cooney a break: OMG
I don't know where this film comes from, but it's great to see and hear Steve play and talk,I had lessons from him in the mid 70's and saw him play live a few times,I still tell the stories of those days,a great musician and interesting person and glad to see he found his home

Great stuff, great musician.
I learned this on the fiddle when first starting out, my music teacher called it, "she begs for more."

I'd love, in a future, to be able to play like him...and he looks like a very interesting person :-)
Poor the guys who think that the appearance of a person make the difference, you know so little about life! :-)

Beautiful playing, in Ireland we don't care what the guitarist looks like. How simple minded are people who worry he does not look correct.

A musician's approach rather than a guitarist's.
