Man what a classic performance , i really feel so lucky to have listened to these guys with my Dad. Now i just sit and sometimes get sad ,because Dad is gone and so are the great mills brothers ; But thanks to you folks for posting this stuff,im able to have many nice thoughts and nights listening to them.
This is so lovely and touchingly beautiful. As someone mentioned I think about their live "Don't Blame Me" performance (another great one to check out), look at how they regard each other. Here Harry can't communicate visually with his brothers, but look at how they love him, how he loves them, supporting each other in musical perfection! It's just the best.......
Poor Harry looks a shadow of himself and I had to Google to check but yes he is almost blind here from diabetes. His lovely happy demenour is not diminished and his voice is still just the same and velvety smooth as ever. I have to say Donald is my favourite vocalist but as the song says Nevertheless they are all wonderful and proof that family rules. Gorgeous to listen to.
The Mills Bros. are such great singers and had such great song selections - it's sad to think they were considered uncle Toms by the Soul Music crowd. :-(
You can tell Harry is really having trouble with seeing. Not sure he isn't blind during this performance. He had diabetes. Passed away in 1982. I always notice Herbert in their later years holding on to the microphone stand till Harry gets situated.
The BEST- No one ever could match them!! Harry (on the right) was blind here. He was always the fat, jolly guy with the dynamic personality. Hate seeing him like this but also glad it didn't stop him........and, he still sounded great.
I cant stop watch and listening to this video.......I grew up around their music and feel that was a real blessing......Such beautiful melodies and harmony....just love it!!!! signed, an appreciative fan
@mrniceguy00987 .........me too............I listen to them every day on wonderful YouTube.......and this particular song over and over........always makes me smile.........
It's wonderful having this group on video. I was shocked to see Harry looking so ill which of course he was. They certainly brought me lots of happiness and still do thanks to these videos. Thanks!!
i was born in 1967. i love the 70s the most for music but the mills brothers are probably my favorite singers. my 14 year son and girlfriends 9 year like them too. they are awwsome!!!!!!
I can't get enough of these guys........I play this every day.........can't tell you how glad I am to see as well as hear them perform.........thanks SO much for posting.......wonderful memories
Thanks for this posting. Ostensibly Harry looks great, having lost about 100 pounds which it looks like he gave to brother Herbert. Harry had been the leader and personality guy of the group, but sadly he had lost his sight as a complication of diabetes and would not live more than a number of months.
saw them in the 80"s as the opening act for Eddy Arnold, and I think I was the youngest and the one who knew all the words, and had no idea Harry had lost his site from Diabettes in the 70's....they were incredible
I remember dancing this very romantic music with my girlfriend of 1944 and we both fell in love verrrry strongly. Who could resist these incredible guys? this was in buenos aires, argentina.
I remember my parents singing and dancing to this music and ofcourse I would sing along too. They make my heart happy, love that music, beautiful melody, great lyrics, and a wonderful blend of voices...... They were something!! and we will never see that talent and music again.... How said for this new generation.
They were great To bad we don't have people or hero like them today. they were the true entertainers. We should find peace and comformer inpeople like them instead of what we have today.
These guys are my musical heros. Toward the end of their career, they used to perform annually in my home town (New Orleans). One year they wore the blue tuxes shown in this video, and I gambled that when they returned the following year they'd wear the same outfits. I was ready with my blue tux and bow tie . . . and it paid off. I took a photo with them dressed and posing like a Mills Brother. What priceless memories!
Man, I envy you. Do you know that back in the obscure Soviet Ubion we had a Mills Brothers Lovers Club? We, in Tbilisi, Georgia can also harmonize. Just type Trio Tbilisi in the serach window. I guarantee, you won't regret it. Many thanks.
They sang almost their entire career into 1 microphone. They did not have all of the electronic gizmos & mixing board when they started. I remember seeing them on a talk show in the 70's explaining they mixed by ear. You can see them stepping in & out, even when all 3 are singing---adjusting the blend. Real talent, not studio phonies.
I agree. I wonder how many of today's popular singers could get away with just standing at a microphone and entertain an audience without having all of the commotion going on behind them in the way of flashing lights and other stage gimics? I dare say very few.
Not many people realized that Harry was blind at this point as a result of diabetes. He had also lost a lot of weight. He died in June of 1982. This is one group I would loved to have seen perform live. They were fabulous entertainers who truly enjoyed their craft.
oh my god.. Forget about the lost weight... He's nearly unrecognizable without the naughty little smile and the twinkle in his eye he always sported. What a shame. At least he died after doing something he loved for over 50 years
Blend only BEGINS to describe the talent AND skill these music icons displayed! Present "singers", male and female, take note: ONE mike, minimal musical accompaniment(for a long time just Norman Brown on guitar), a simple LYRICAL song lasting no more than 4 minutes at the MOST=50-plus year career! Most singers/groups stop becoming relative after only a 1/4 of that time. When this performance was done, Herb was 69, Don 66, and Harry, nearly blind w/diabetes, 68!
Yet, they continued to tour most of the year. What also amazes me is that they were brothers who truly loved to perform TOGETHER and their chemistry onstage was always evident. These icons are missed. Thank God that their recordings remain and YT videos exist for our continued enjoyment. TY for the post!
This is the way the song is meant to be sung. Much better than that Frank Sinatra version. I love Frank but the Mills Bros murdered this song.
