  • I've been looking for the episode I was on, which was February 9, 1985. I remember a Girl or Boy Scout Troop and Lighthouse For The Blind were also on there. If anyone knows how I can obtain footage of that episode, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

  • "my momma been" @7:57 OH MY GAWD lol forever. I love this.

  • I remember this show from my childhood-once every few weeks during the program, WWL-TV would do their test ofthe Emergency Broadcast System, replete with their test card that had the old Civil Defense logo on it; scared the crap out of me when they did it.

  • an "awkade owna"

  • LMFAO Wth?

  • Aint that the truth.

  • @dm0nutube

Shut up and let me eat my chicken. Hopefully I will "get big" by the end of the show.

  • i remember this show. it was sponsored by Barbe's dairy. don't remember if i spelled it right.

  • Seriously, What the hell was this show??

A whole show about kids eating fried chicken?? WTF?

  • No it was actually a 2pc and a biscuit.

  • No it was actually 2pcs and a biscuit.

  • Wow, look at the size of those boxes. Did those kids get a 10-piece box each???

  • This show should have been called "PAEDO AND PALS"!

  • Cherie may not have been to a dentist, but she sure needed to!!

  • "A NUN?!" PSML!

  • Dear JohnnyFairbanks, If the host of this version of"Popeye & Pals"is not

"Capt.Ken"? Then what is the name of this gentleman..who mc's this local kids tv

cartoon show with the live studio audience?

  • Is that Mike Longman?

  • Boy does this bring back memories. Back in the days of Morgus Presents, K and B commercials and Tastee Donuts. Love new orleans!

  • Is this "Capt.Ken"?

  • @143AC No; when I lived in Gulfport, Miss. (where WWL like most other New Orleans stations are seen on cable) from 1989-91, Matt Borel and later Captain Ken were the hosts during that time. Yes, for those two years, an Alaskan kid like me living on the Coast would be exposed to New Orleans pop culture...even if we're 90 minutes away!!!!

  • I was on this show in 1976, we had Burger King burgers and drinks. The show was taped for broadcast later, because i remember being able to see myself on TV at home. I was also on Johnny's Follies on channel 12 in the late 60's

  • AWESOME!!! I'm in this video!! I'm Jeannette, the little "nervous" kid with the long red hair in a side ponytail! :-) This is such a neat video to see after all these years. Thanks for posting this!

  • i always wanted to be on the show, how did u get on ? i was like 10 w en this came out

  • You was a cute kid !

  • What a blast! I was also on the show... probably in 1970 -- we had hamburgers then -- and Pepsi. The "soundtrack" of 30 kids all eating with their mouths open is simultaneously revolting and hilarious! What an eye-opener it was to see how TV was made. Set flats (for the ship portal) -- and no cartoons until the show aired. But what a great memory this was -- thanks for posting!!!

  • I watch this every Sat I was 6 years old now 32 lol

    TJ

  • In the early '90s, I remember the kids being fed Pizza Hut pizza. But in this day and age of course, it would be vegetables with ranch dip or fruits with yogurt dip.

And even though he may look like him, the host is not -- I repeat, NOT!!! -- Garland Robinette, who along with then-wife Angela Hill was New Orleans' #1 anchor duo. Some local talk radio host called the couple "Garangela", which I think was the precursor to "Brangelina."

  • i was on this show 79

  • When I was a kid, I thought this show was filmed live, and I sat thinking, WHY ARE THESE KIDS EATING POPEYES AT 9AM?

  • im trying to find the episode i was on does anyone know where i can find more ?

  • I used to watch this every Saturday when I was their age.

  • I wouldn't be able to eat on camera.

  • I used to be so damned jealous of those kids, lol. It was all I wanted out of life: to be on Popeye & Pals.

  • lol i remember that

  • I used to watch this all the time. This is when Popeyes was good.

  • Look at the size of those chicken legs! The chicken is not that size any more!

  • Lol! You must be hungry as hell only to notice the chicken legs size!!

    Haha!

  • No not hungry. We eat at Popeyes by my house and the chicken has shrunk considerably just like Mcdonalds burgers have shrunk.

  • Oh, I see! I didn't know that since I'm from Canada!

    Thanx for the info!

  • When I was on the show, we didn't get fed, but god the memories. Thanks for posting this! Oh the memories.

  • I used to see this in 1978-79 when I lived in Louisisana, but I don't recall the lady who hosted the show then.

  • Diversity was definitely not pushed back then. I loved the show any way. Great memories growing up in the eighties. I always wanted to have an entire box of chicken and biscuits on my lap. I wonder if the box was full, if not, what a great prop.

    1, 2, 3 roooollllemm! classic

  • The boxes were definitely filled with chicken.. It was yummy also.

  • @dm0nutube

Too bad a show like this nowadays would be on the government's hit list for "Contributing to childhood obesity"

  • Comment removed

  • @dbocage They gave you a box with 1 drumstick and 1 biscuit. No drink. It made you very thirsty and nervous! LOL!

  • They're eating Popeyes fried chicken of course, just had some last night meself!!

  • MMMM...fried chicken!

  • The first person to host "Popeye"movie cartoons

in the New Orleans,La. viewing are was Mr.Henry

    Dupre in the late 1950's.

  • Omg!!! I used to love this show as a kid.. It was later hosted by Capt Mike(or Chris). The Opening of the show in the mid to late 80's showed some kids running on to a boat, I was one of those kids. Thanks for the memories.

  • I don't remember if we were fed when I was on the show. I wish they would have asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up rather than who we wanted to say hi to. It would have given a fun little memento to hang on to and see how many people actually become what they wanted to be.

  • I was on Popeye and Pals in 1968 with my Brownie Troop and wish I could locate the footage. The host was John Pela and instead of fried chicken we had McDonald's hamburgers and Cokes, and then each of us received a toy afterward such as a Jingle-Jump, Frisbee, Slinky, and other cute toys of the era. And to echo another poster here, I too wish I could go back to those days.

  • Wow thats interesting, shows what I know, I always associated it with Popeye's fried chicken.

  • Ha! Popeye's Fried Chicken did not exist in 1968! All we had back then was Kentucky Fried Chicken and Chicken Delight!! Thanks for repyling to my message.

  • I was on Popeye and Pals and I'm tring to find the footage of when I was on it.. Memories.. Wish I could turn back time!

  • I need a Pal Pack. I asked for one at a popeys in Georgia and no one knew what I was talking about.

  • I knew someone would remember this program. That chicken used to sound so good on early Saturday mornings!!!!!

  • It was good also.. Popeyes is good at any hour!

  • Man, fried chicken at 9 o'clock in the morning. All of these kids should be about my age now - I might know some of them since I'm from New Orleans

  • You most likely do know some especially if you are from the Bestbank.. That is where we are all from.

  • DA PARISH BRA!

just kidding. I remember when Don Westbrook (the weatherman on ch. 4) was the host. Must have been the late 70s early 80s.

  • Yes it would, I had the same thought.

  • It'd be amazing to see what these kids actually became, especially the one who wanted to be a Nun.
