They dont make this guitar anymore, they do however make a newer model thats basically the same but with upgraded pups and with a maple neck (it also costs more). RG3550MZ

Anyways the Edge Zero is actually really nice, stays in tune, the only down side is you cant really flutter, and its also slightly stiff. You can however trade stability for the other stuff by removing the zero point system (easy to remove).

I believe they dont sell this model anymore, they do sell A VERY similar one (just better pickups) for 1600$ US. If you manage to find this one (rg2550z) its usually around 1k. Hope that helps.

@hiladelphia Take your pick. The rg1550 (2003-2004) and its reissue (2009), both have maple necks vs rg2550z's rosewood neck.

rg1550s have ibanez stock pickups, rg2550z has Dimarzio made pickups

rg1550s has a edge pro trem whereas the rg2550z has an edge zero trem.

Edge pro smoother (easier to flutter) but slightly less tuning stability. Edge zero is stiffer (almost impossible to flutter) but stays in tune better.

Its basswood so it has a nice weight to it, its not like those superlight S series ones, but its not as heavy as an iceman. Sounds great the action was setup perfectly for me. The neck is super slick, MZ has maple and has better pickups which is the only difference, so go for it! ;p

Nice playing, but I will say that parts of it sound really great then other parts sound a little off. Like either the wrong notes are playing in certain spots or the timing is off in places. Keep working at it and you will definitely get it though. Good job overall.

Well they are DiMarzio IBZs, they are pretty good but they don't compare to original DiMarzios.

Not really. They're special "Dimarzio-designed" Ibanez pickups. Got the same, I can tell you it makes a difference.

Since the sound is ~ 90% in the pickups (for solid body guitars), people should learn how they work, instead of trusting big labels guitar model on the look or worse : on the price.

Let's say I enjoy playing Iron Maiden, Paul Gilbert, Guthrie Govan, Metallica, Megadeth, etc. What would you recommend?

Well i'd tell you a Dimarzio Paf pro on the neck, Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in middle position and a Dimarzio Super Distortion or Tone Zone on the bridge. Three humbuckers that will allow you to enlarge your sound colors, clean or distorded.

The middle humbucker (SD Hot Rails) will allow you to have brighter sound when in intermediate position.

The paf pro is a vintage high output pickup. Super Distortion is a very high output, easy to overdrive, but personally, I prefer the Tone Zone as a bridge pickup.

I'd also recommend Push/Pull volume and tone knobs, to split neck and middle pickups, so as to switch between humbucker to single pickup. Brighter sound, less gain. I'd recommend that for neck pickup in neck pickup position, for solos, and for middle pickup in neck/middle position, for clean sound.

A lot of that money? Dimarzio Tone zone humbucker + Dimarzio paf pro humbucker + Dimarzio Tone Zone S (humbucker in a single), that's my setup, and it costs 200$. When buying a 1000$ guitar, that would only be 1/5 of the price. And here, they're not even real Dimarzio...

When buying a 5000$ Gibson, think about it, the best and most expensive pickups I know are 'bout 400$ for a COUPLE of humbucker... not even 10% of the price.

Hmmm. Usually what happens with price and quality changes in a guitar is in order : Body/Neck, Finish, Bridge, Tuners, and lastly Pickups. (Then comes additional features : neck-thru if not already a standard neck-thru, etc etc.)

So only the most expensive guitars have top-notch pickups. (well most of the times at least) However much you consider 1000$ to be it is obviously not one of the most expensive ones out there.

A guitar will sound better with better pickups, as KrapXela said, the price of the guitar goes in the finish and specs and hardware... If you want good sound, buy some extra pickups : Dimarzio, EMG, Duncan, or less famous but very nice : Fralin, Lollar, Bare Knuckle, WCR etc...
