Holden the car is great but the marketing is still not very clever...yes you've matched the germans in hardware, but not in the idea/self concept of what it is to be a Holden driver. BMW I think Munich, Holden I think Dandenong. Put Holden on the world stage, sell a few LHD models in Europe and shoot the ads in Switzerland, then watch aussies buy it.

@brett2372 Genuinely equivalent power/size German cars are twice the price - good for you if you have the spare cash. The Commodore is about representing value for money for the common family. An SV6 gives you 210kW in a large well refined chassis with stacks of extras for $35K. There isn't a better alternative for the price - not Japanese or German. Things might have been different 10 years ago but any of the haters please find me a better large car for $35K...

we have a 2006 adventra lx and it has so many electronics i hate to think what it will be like to maintain as it gets older....the new models are the same....the old Holdens were easy to maintain yourself....same with hybrids the batteries cost $3000 so what you save in fuel costs you in battery replacement

Both these vehicles have played a huge role in the past 50years in the evolution of the muscle/sports car. The innovation provided by chevrolet and ford (with the Mustang & Shelby) have set the bar. What did Holden do that was so special??

@highoctanestuff Well obviously they're the parent companies of Holden and Ford Australia. These Holdens aren't laughable though. We've talked performance, the only logical conclusion I can reach is you love the styling of American cars. To me (and most people who aren't American) they were very appealing until the early 70s. Now American styling is about as interesting as their cuisine. The front of the new mustang looks like a big dumb kid and the camaro like its bored...

Yes Chevy makes some crap. My point being, when you compare Holden as a sport vehicle to a chevy? There is no way you could ever agree that any holden ever built, could or would have the same appeal as one of these cars. This is why Camaros and Vettes are going down in motoring history as classic,iconic vehicles no matter what year they are.

@highoctanestuff I don't get the Chevy thing, base Chevys don't hold a candle to Holden though I'm sure they've sharpened up now. Base Holdens are certainly not sports cars (and yes people who drive them as such are annoying - as are people who drive basic skylines like they are GTRs) but SSs have similar numbers to cars like the Mustang and HSV the Mustang GT. The Camaro range is comparable, the HSV and Camaro SS do have the same engine after all. So why would USA be laughing?

@fatShowPony Laughing because 4 door cars are goofy. They are family cars. The only holden that looks decent is the Monaro. Holdens have no visual appeal. You could never compare one to the smooth lines of a Camaro, Vette,Challenger,Cuda or Mustang. These are iconic cars. The only reason Holdens are so popular is because its the only Australian car produced and people think there special.

Seriously what holds a candle to an VE SV6 for $36K - i.e. large car, 210kW, genuinely impressive fuel consumption, well-balanced with esp tc, good brakes, 18 inch alloys e.t.c. I couldn't find anything, maybe you have some suggestions?

my 1998 nissan stagea has a touchscreen, climate control, auto closing tailgate, 2x electric sunroofs, electric fold in mirrors, and GPS, as STANDARD. Holden is so far behind the times.

When can you make a Commodore so that Series one people aren't burned by all the faults that are fixed in the Series two. I don't know why Ford and Holden do this, don't use your customers to find the faults in a car test the things properly first rather than having a new series.

Well I must admit it is good to see that Holden are finally catching up - in 2008, despite being a Commodore owner for about a good 20 years, I was told that all that was in the pipeline was a mp3 jack for their in car stereo - well that is when I gave up and bought a very nice BMW 325i that gave me what I wanted.

Whilst the IQ system looks nice, I don't know of anyone who will get in a car with a pack of CDs to "rip" - or even stream it. I am not sure if anyone buys CDs anymore!

@UandMe314 Yes I couldn't quite understand who would be ripping CDs in the car. That's kind of distracting me thinks. Plus how do you operate it without looking at it? I installed a stereo which just has the USB plug in the glovebox so you just stick a usb stick in, and you can leave it in the car rather than an ipod, plus it's just drag and drop no silly iTunes :D

@IanTC12 the advantage we have with an ipod is that we can fill it up and have no problem picking any song we wanna listen to, but if you fill up a usb stick you'll be flipping through songs for ages before you find the one your looking for.

@IanTC12 The problem with companies, such as Holden is that innovation is just too hard because their development cycle is too long for them to avoid these decision that appear daft by the time they get them into production. I gained an insight into this thinking when I received an email from on of the dinosaurs in the "customer service dept" extolling the wonders of the mp3 jack!. I am so glad I have left them far behind-could not even contemplate buying another Holden now.
