  • Colins classic auto dot com (under CARS, PRIVATE COLLECTION) tells the history of this GT40 documenting the original purchase order placed on March 9th, 1966, by 30-year old Mr. David Heerensperger of Spokane, Wa., @ a whopping $18,250, roughly the cost of almost 5 new 1966 Corvette Roadsters! AC was added for $750. Pic of Shelby handing keys over @ Shelby American June '66 without having to fly to England! During the approx. 1200 miles to Spokane, Wa., some "driving awards" were received.

  • saw one on the freeway today wow

  • NOW THAT IS JUST PLAIN SEXY!! ALSO ON THE ALL TIME FAV. LIST.

  • i can def see where this auctioneer is coming from, that car should have gone for a lot more but no one appreciated it for what it was, and it passed, bullshit

  • That car was ahead of it's time!

  • for me it look better in red on puple

  • @rubenruben001 rofl´d about your comment XD

  • Yea, these were the civilian variation of the Famed GT40.. Once you bought one of these cars, you had to fly all the way to England for a custom seat fitting!! Also, the engines weren't as powerful as the GT40s that actually raced in Le Mans. If I can remember correctly, I believe they were $80,000... Yea, and it was 1966!

  • that guy is an asshole. haha. great car though

  • If I bought it I would be afraid to drive a 1.6 million dollar car.

Oh what the heck it s just money. lol

  • oh it was just 1.6 million they want 2 million but i talked them down

  • and for a quirky fact: 2 of the original race car where left in europe because mr shelby did nt want to pay for the shipping back so he sold them.

  • is this the race version?

because for le mans you had to sell some of the road version cars before you could enter a racing version at le mans.

and does anybody know if any of the original race versions of the gt40 excist?

i think the gt40 shown is a road version

  • yes they still do exist i saw tw0 of them at the montery historics

  • they do still exist

  • Mk1 Mk2 and Mk4 were the race versions, the MK3 was the road homologation car

  • yes there are race versions that still excist. one sold at barrett jackson about 10 years ago for around $700,000

  • nicest car ever..

  • shit i cant believe thats from 1966 it looks like it could be a 90s supercar easily.

  • that's a whole lotta money, imagine how many toasters you could buy with it! I would never leave the house if I had that many toasters! but then die on toast-overdose...

  • I love you!

  • Boom chica wa-wa!!!
