  • i had this on 78rpm when i was small. it is rather sinister, but then i have always liked the darker side. i sing it in my head to this very day.

  • @MsAhuman and Prancer1231

Your comments are interesting. I've known this song (all 3 verses) since I was a wee child and have never thought there was anything sinister about it. To me it was always just a fun song. But, we each form our own opinions :)

  • this melody is kind of sinister

  • i love this song... brings back old memories

  • To Charity- Love from Aunty Laura.

  • i loved this song. and i love the video how cute! i am old and i still love my bears

  • I LOVE this song!! My grandma and mom used to sing it to me all the time when I was little!! <3 Love it so much! lol

  • 3rd verse:"If you go down to the woods today, you'd better not go alone. It's lovely down in the woods today, but safer to stay at home. For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain because today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic."

  • Love! Thanks so much for posting this - I haven't heard it since I was a kid, and it gave me goosebumps! (Then I played it for my baby!) ;)

  • LOL this is a cute song. I'm surprised that I've never heard this song before.

  • @effieh2x and @bleachfan0797

Haha I used to have a similar ' mishearing' to the 'Bananas in Pyjamas' theme song too:-))LOL

  • like effieh2x I'm old . I remember hearing this on the radio as the theme song of one of the children s programs that I used to listen to.

  • @elvenfire1

Yes those old radio programs were great. Good Memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Anne's version isn't NEARLY as spooky as Henry Hall's version from 1932. Hahah

  • banjo kazzoie ftw.

  • whats with the farting instrument

  • @valencys LOLOL!!!!!!

  • Oh wow. Two thoughts: this video would be terrifying to someone on drugs; and, is this a song that Janet Reno blared at the Waco compound?? What a tragedy. But, really, this song is a standard march song.

  • Once there was a magical elf who lived in a rainbow tree. He lived downstairs from a flatulent dwarf who was constantly having to pee. One day the elf couldent take no more so he went and banged on the rude dwarfs door. And what do you know They suddenly both were married

  • LOL My step mom hates this song so much, because when back when my step sister was a child, her teddy bear used to sing this song with my step mom around, and now it's still stuck in her head! I find it really funny though. When I even bring it up, she overreacts by yelling at me, "OMG, don't even say a single lyric!!! xDDD"

  • One of two children's songs I never heard as a child that apparently everyone else my age and background DID. I was aware of the poem, which is why I would have known it wasn't underwear. I also never heard WHEELS ON THE BUS - I never set foot on a school bus until I was 17. I first heard it in Jonathan Richman's cover when I was about 30. I would have loved his version if I'd heard it in my childhood, as it had a monster on the bus. :)

  • I did a dance to this when I was 5!

  • this song and this version showed up in my frank zappa section on my mp3, trippy

  • I love this song when I was little! =) Re living it now for my Children Services Tafe cource and will show it to my own kids! =)

  • i listened to this song stoned, never again...

  • Being a very old fart, I loved this song as a little kid in the Forties.

My wife was born in Denmark, didn't grow up with this, but fell in love with it.

Anne Murray did a great job with this.

Thanks for posting this. Great memories of a better, more innocent time.

  • @beatsbooze

Thank you. I'm glad your wife enjoyed the song and yes it does bring back great memories :)

  • @beatsbooze Funny i'm Denmark too... we have our child songs but problably not as nostalgic as the english...

  • She has such a nice voice.. :)

  • Never known this song, found it on a comedyserie Dutch "Kees & co" derived from the comedy "2point4children" :p but never knew this as song when i was a little boy now i am 32 little bit to late haha

  • @patje7

Hi, it is never too late to learn these lovely old children's songs. I learnt this song as a small child, then taught the song to my children. My children are now teaching the song to their children.

  • As I kid I was sure it was " Watch them catch their underwear "

    LMAO

  • @Bleachfan0797

I'm sure a lot of children would have made the same mistake lol

  • Lovely! Thank you for sharing this adorable video. Have a great day!

  • @faery34 / aegiswings/88sarah08

Thank you for viewing this video and for your comments :)

  • Baby Gramps puts a new twist on this one. Nice clean version here. Hmmm....should I learn this version or Baby Gramps?

  • @OL8Twho

We each have our preferences. I like this version

  • I i love this song :D such a classic xoxoxo

  • I had this album as a child. Wish I still did.

  • MsEver62 You are almost correct! the tittle of the radio program was NO School Today With Big Jon and Sparky. The opening theme was indeed The Teddy Bear's Picnic W/Ethel Smith at the Hammond. organ. Then half way through the program they would play this song with an English girl singing the lyrics.

    Sir Squirrel

  • open season

  • I believe the name of the show was Big John and Little Sparky on ABC I think. During the week that time slot was Don McNeil's Breakfast Club, which at my age I liked better.

  • @ha63

Thank you ha63. I have some great memories of those old radio programs.

  • I love it. I remember listening to a radio show called Teddy Bear's Picnic when I was little in the early 50s, on Saturday mornings, and this was the theme. That's how old I am lol. I sing this to my grandkids.

  • @MsEver62

LOL Yes, I must have listened to the same programme. I didn't remember the name of the show but I do remember this as the theme song. :)

  • OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! <3

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Anne in concert twice in the early 80's. She made a remark thanking "the 6 people" who bought this album. She is welcome - I've still got my copy! Great, great singer who has given me a lot of joy over the years.

  • I went to an ole tyme dance n this song was played. I had so much fun dancing to this song that when it was over i was crying. From enjoying the experience of dancing to such a joyfull song! Even to this day i still cry to this song for it still fills me me with an incredible joy!

  • Wats the name of the of the vinyl album?

  • @EmraldJade

This song is on an album called - There's a Hippo in My Bathtub by Anne Murray If you do an online search you can find her albums to buy (new and used)

  • Loved it, thank you.

  • I heard this song first time some years ago, and today I suddenly had an urge to listen to this song again.

Which reminded me, how awesome it is. :D - And her voice is just perfect for it.

  • I also remember this from my childhood. It has been around for a very long time which shows what a great song it is :)

  • WOO! Thank you SO much for putting this up! I grew up with this song. I used to go to bed with it playing every night on my old record player xD
