Well.... mike mangini got the job, BUT no loss there haha, and AMAZING piano! and an amazing drummer here, Marco's solo's are just immense haha... All of the drummer who auditioned were, my favourite of the lot was Thomas Lang, but sadly he just didn't fit, i guess between Marco and Mike it wasn't about skill more.... who fitted better, must've been a close one! because they both seemed very happy haha!

I don't know if Marco would have been a better fit for Dream Theater than Mike Mangini, but I do think it would have made for a fascinating listen. After watching Spirit Carries On episode where they announced Mangini as the guy, I think he'll be a great addition. It was a win-win situation with those two drummers to pick from at the end.

Was lucky to see them both in Montreal last week - two incredible shows in one week. It was a great week for music and of course a great week for music is a great week, period!

The other thing that makes me smile is that this video is a blues improv and Marco apparently doesn't even like the blues...Did they play their song Bluesf**kers at Martyr's? They did here in Montreal and Marco's intro to the song goes "Anyone like the blues?" Half the club applauds and whistles and Marco says, "Well, I don't", and goes on to explain that he wrote the song as a spoof on the form LOL

@shikpan Yeah, I have to agree with you. Mike Mangini, no doubt is an AMAZING drummer. But I have a feeling that Marco Minnemann would suit DT much better. Marco is so versatile with his drumming and not only that, it's extremely clear and clean to listen to. He's really versatile to, doing everything from drumming along with cartoon quotes to playing death metal (yes, death metal). But I wish both of them good luck.

If Marco is in.......sorry folks.............thats a serious ass upgrade. I love Portnoy but Minnemann is a whole different level. Portnoy compared to Marco is like Ringo compared to Neil Peart. If you watch the video you can hear Marco play the fuckin soul out of those drums. Also technique lets you realize your creativity. You can think of what 64th note triplets would sound like behind something but couldn't perform it without the skill.
