@Arc13 I'd have to politely disagree with you. I was a kid in the 90's and my first impulse might be to say that the best games where 1990-2000, that could just be my nostalgia talking. Case in point, I thought Super Mario 64, OoT, and FFVII where the best games ever (not saying they aren't amazing cause they are). But over the years I've matured and those amazing, epic plots (I mean RPG's during this time) seem to have more flaws and cliches to me. I'm glad the industry is trying to make kore
I think I am gonna buy a Dreamcast just to play this game. The ONLY way to play this masterpiece of a video game is on the Dreamcast. The other versions suck. Especially the PC version. Bleh!
I went into Gamestop today to just look at random cheap games, and what do I see? Fucking Grandia II. Bought it dirty cheap, and I will play it so hard next week.
@MasterOfStealth64 A good PS2 rpg? There are plenty! I would recommend Wild Arms 4, Persona 3 and Persona 4. I've never played this one before, but i've heard it's good.
Yes, this is a good PS2 RPG (though it does suffer from a few framerate problems, nothing game-breaking though). Any Shin Megami Tensei or Persona game are also good.
@wiiplayin The second carries the spirit of the first game real well while still being original - it's fantastic, and honestly I like it more than the first.
The third Grandia meanwhile cleaned up the battle system and made the gameplay even more fun than the other entries in the series, but at the cost of having an atrociously cliche plot and cast, largely lacking any of the charm or loveability of the first two games' scenarios.
Listened to all your playlists in these past two months! They're awesome, dude!! ;)
Now I'm gonna start from scratch and download the ones I liked the most, and I'm curious to see if you'll be at 1000 songs by the time I get here again! ;)
@Arc13 But wouldn't that mean we are still in the 2000's because Xbox 360 and PS3 are still the go-to systems? I mean, it's 2011 already and Microsoft hasn't even announced a new home console yet.
If I need to enter this level of specifity then I will.
1991-2000, the greatest era of video games ever made and all the games released with the SNES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, Saturn, Dreamcast are all amazing.
You can't really apply that kind of logic current gen due to current gen not exactly even holding a candle to the quality of the past.
If it sounds like I'm insulting you, I apologize I don't mean to just, don't overthink it.
@Arc13 But you left out 1990. Never mind that that year is technically part of the 90's but that's when Mega Man 3 and Castlevania 3 were released (in North America, anyway). so it's sort of strange that you're leaving that game out of "the greatest era of video games ever made."
Are Mega Mans 4, 5, and 6 also arbitrarily left out of the greatest era because they were on NES and not on any of the consoles you mentioned?
@Quikquik98 You are not following my advice at all. And yes, while those came out then, NES counts more towards Silver Age of gaming because while amazing tell me if Castlevania III really holds a candle to Castlevania IV.
Now please, just stop overthinking it. I'm merely saying this is awesome along with the games of it's era and systems. And you're overthinking each and every time. It almost seems like you wish to disprove that these games are good. I'm not sure if that even makes sense...AGH
@Arc13 I think you're confusing the Pewter Age (1980-89) with the Silver Age (2000-09) and, quite frankly, Castlevania III does hold quite a candle to Castlevania IV (you can control 4 different characters in Dracula's Curse!) but nothing in the Clinton Years holds a candle to games made in the 2000's. Case in point: Super Metroid is a blatant rip-off of Halo.
What does this game and Metal Gear Solid have in common? They both have many of the same voice actors. If you look even farther, almost all the the remaining cast would voice a role in a future game in the MGS series. Interesting. =D
Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm surprised my Grandia II soundtrack hasn't worn out from me listening to this one! Best regular (i.e. non boss) battle theme in any RPG I've played.
I remember when you first encounter Milennia, and she has to use Zap! on you to finish the cutscene/unwinnable fight. I kept interrupting her casting, so she kept killing me with the crossbow instead. It took me forever to figure that part out...
I loved the first two Grandia games. I played this one on the Playstation 2 and there were some slowdowns so I'd recommend playing it on the original Dreamcast version if possible.
After Grandia III underwhelmed, I wonder if it marked the end of this series, especially since Square-Enix took over.
@SupraDarky Yea, too bad the only games Square can make that can please the more Turnbase RPG is a Dragonquest now. I agree Grandia rocked my Dreamcast hard.
Ah, Grandia II on the Dreamcast. One of the greatest, most overshadowed RPGs of all time.
