I have a question, back to 80s 90s did anyonehave their equipment taken by the police, or other incidents of similar nature.. no one seems to know what really happened to the 'Phreaks' the telco fed us books on X25 then sent in the police here in newfoundland canada back in the 80s... did the police tell anyone else that they would get 'good jobs' by finding security faults in Systems... anyone else have any DMS100 telco Switch Stories... Call me 709-368-3266 ask for Kenny murraykj709@yahoo.ca
Actually, I ended up with a huge collection of 8 bits, because I love retro computing (particularly machines even older than the mass produced 8 bits), but lets face it, they will never go up in value, they were junk then, now, and will forever continue to be junk. Just look on ebay, there's an ocean of these that can had for next to nothing. They just have no usefulness, they're so obsolete. Generally I would argue hard to save them, but more and more I see no point.
@cobrachoppergirl there is usefulness in these, a hole load of artists are reviving these old computers to make digital art with them and it's pretty cool. that's the sole reason I have these for (I make music and graphics with them)
First of all, collectors suck. They don't do anything useful with their machines. I use this machine for something productive, make it worth, not just making it a useless museum piece.
Second, his is an NTSC model. It's not that rare.
Third, it already wasn't a perfect model (missing caps, scratches, etc) so I am only restoring it and as I said, improving it. It also has an SD drive now.
Wow your stupid. If collectors didnt "Collect" these things we wouldnt have them today, they would of been chucked in the bin in the 90's and destroyed! I own a commodore 64 and an amiga and I put both to use but im still technically a collector, I just preserve and look after them to ensure that in the future I could possibly sell them on and make lots of money!
Collectors that hoard things for no purpose whatsoever but "getting rich in the future" are loathsome materialist people I do not care about. Be happy about hoarding possessions and let me do as i wish with mine.
I'm in no way a hoarder. I collect things such as these machines to clean them up and restore them to former glory, maybe to sell in the long distant future perhaps, but for now I enjoy them as a user.
Have you taken notice that my original comment has 2 thumbs up and yet yours don't?
What is your problem? It is MY computer, I do as I wish with it, and am in no way stupid.
Stupid would be building a PC inside one of these as has been shown online.
As I said, this machine was far from mint condition and all I did was to change its screen, it is in no way something bad but on the contrary, I made it lighter and gave it a MUCH BETTER QUALITY screen. And I will NEVER sell it. Your point is moot.
I'd stick a big, fat hard drive in there, and have it hooked up as device #9 on the serial bus. Heck, with today's hard drives you could have any darn program ever written for the 64 on there...!
So I need both 12V and 5V,... what is not certainly NEEDED and you are missing, is the 9V AC line... 9V AC on the SX64 goes to the 9V AC line of the userport. Since i dont give two shits about that, I removed it, so I can power his with any light weight ATX PSU of my liking.

@mattsprinter nope, i have been busy with other things. The screen is mounted however I need a DC-DC converter to make it all work tidly :)
I also think I need to amplify the signal somehow, it's a little bit drker than I'd like.

Is it still possible to see the finished prooduct when completed?
mattsprinter 1 year ago
@mattsprinter I will definitely post it! :)
I can take a video of the machine as it stands now.
It's all assembled but it has a cable to the exterior for screen power.

I'd say "improved".

I'm using an SD drive now, much more convenient than a heavy HD :)
The idea is to make this lighter, not heavier!
kikencorp 3 years ago
it's a psone screen ? why you don't cram then a motorbike battery and make the little sx really portable ? :)
loboolbo 3 years ago
BEcause the goal of this modification is to make it lightweight.
A battery like that wouldn;'t provide the necessary voltage lines anyway.
YEs, it's a PSOne screen. Kind of a bitch to fit inside. I'd recommend using another type of screen of the same size!
kikencorp 3 years ago
right :) as you may know, you can power the c64 with 5v only .. 12v are used only for the SID chip
anyway, thanks for the tips, when I'll find another sx maybe I'll do the same mod :)
loboolbo 3 years ago
Well, i CERTAINLY need the SID!
