Homes and buildings can be improved by a factor of 5 or greater; vehicles can quadruple in efficiency; foods can be used efficiently (why feed cows and ethanol plants with grain?). Yes, we are smarter than yeast. But we are like drug addicts. Many of us know that we are poisoning ourselves. But we don't care about the future for ourselves or the kids. Most important is that we continue to be able to drive our cars and buy some goodies at the store for a low dollar price. More, it's especially hard to quit when everyone around you is doing it.
