The original movie upon which this was based was before all the global warming stuff and was about man's use of destructive weapons and aliens sent warning to stop them and what they would do if they didn't.

If the aliens care so much about the planet but want to kill humans, why not hold the Earth hostage and say "you kill us, we denonate all nuclear weapons and turn the planet into a wasteland." Or better yet, maybe ask the aliens how to generate carbon free energy in a cost effective manner (better solar or fusion power) and/or how to counter act the effects of extra carbon already in the atmosphere.

The producers if this movie screwed it all up; it should not have deveated from the original. GORT should have been used to demonstrate the removal of our technology to preindustrial by the threat of removing all hightech armaments and industry leaving mankind with knives and clubs. The thought of that happening would bring fear into the hearts and minds of all people; imagine nations not being able to defend their borders as usual and having to fight bloody battles hand to hand all over again.

For all the whining here, the movie was still #1 this weekend. I didn't watch it but obviously there were millions curious enough to watch it. It's entertainment not a life changing experience, so take it for what it's worth. Stimulate the economy, consume!

I thought it was an alright film, entertaining for one watch, but not something I would bother watching again.

It was basically an entirely different movie from the original, with practically no part of the plot taken from it.

It is incomparable to the original. The original was a fantastic movie. This was mediocre.

Overall, it was a good time waster, but not worth the movie theater money. Don't tell anyone, but I didn't pay for it;)
