Comparing table tennis to tennis is the same as comparing sprinters to cross country runners. The technical side is also much deeper than tennis. No other sport in the world requires you to consistently play and train full time starting at 5-7 years old with professional level coaching the whole way in order to be top level when you're 20. It's harder to be professional at table tennis than it is for any sport i know of.
@utvolsfan1985 He's just admitting that it hit the table, in case the umpires didn't see it. Great sportmanship, right. :p So Boll (the one on this side) won the point.
@utvolsfan1985 The upper edge is considered in, the side edge considered out. He pointed at the table to let the judges know the ball hit the upper/top edge. If he didn't, it would have been up to the side judge to essentially judge the balls flight path and determine if it hit the top edge or the side of the table. It can get confusing so players help the judges out like that. Good sportsmanship is pretty much required in a fast past game like table tennis.
@lavaman233 well . . . not many people have the strengh to run like Nadal or Federer, and also, you can´t compare it like that. What would you say to Chess, or Bowling? Both are also called "sports" How much are they running?
@jodenkinderen They use two completely different forms of footwork. Because table tennis appears less dynamic because the players cover less ground than tennis players does not mean they put in less effort. Running in straight lines is very easy. Try doing that side to side.
@jodenkinderen While you required different set of skills to be elite in table tennis, It's not more exhausting than tennis, and definitely not on the professional level. You're probably right if you're talking about Badminton or Squash but definitely not table tennis.

@buddysunk It is because when someone rips a heavy top spin forehand at us most of us can only block it back while the pros can reply with a counter topspin.
@Gzusvictory I changed it ;) Thanks for asking it in a polite way, without having to use the F world at lest 7 times. I'm proud of the table tennis community!
This wasn't a topspin at all. It had very little topspin. It was Kreanga's sidespin and Timo's sidespin touch closing the hook that resulted in the edge. Great touch on Timo's part, but mostly Kreanga's hook that did it.

seems like hardly anyone knows how to counter a sidespin properly. I think you can only counter it with a sidespin
