  • I am no longer going to use a stick to kill bugs since it is flammable.

  • Anyone else dissapointed by the lack of explosions?

    I was.

  • seems like the orange oil worked i bet there are no live termites after this

  • @casinohijack Ahahaha! Hey, they don't have to worry about their mortage payment anymore too.

  • The quality of orange oil termite treatment is equal to the quality of this vid. I have used this product. It is the most hazardous chemical I have ever used. It is the only product that actually ate through my protective gloves, melting them. It burns the skin. Its over powering odor lasts for several days that prevents people from using their homes. It is as hazardous as treating with gasoline. I know of a home that started on fire by following up orange oil with the electrogun. DO NOT USE!

  • haha you're a silly business man.

    and a snake.

keep using your carcinogens in your homes - lets leave cancer causing residue all over our homes.

In our demo lets use 100% dried wood framed doll houses and cardboard trailers (and also cut 5 mins of tape where you were dousing the cardboard.)

you look and pitch like a snake.

have fun with your MICROWAVE technology.... and your 3 armed grand children.

I'll stick to sanitizing my home while exterminating...with wonderful organic orange oil.

  • @stewabis -- really? You think that a microwave treatment will make your grandchildren mutate? really? seriously?

  • orange oil is very dangerous for humans, not to mention it doesn't kill all of your termites..it's a big scam in the SF bay area with companies like Planet Orangs, Pacific Coast Termite and Hitmen termite..real scam artists...

  • during one fumigation as many Greenhouse gases are deployed in atmosphere as when one drives a car for one week.

Orange Oil came so popular bcs it's easy to sell and advertise. It is much easier to tell people that you would kill termites by localized treatments using Orange Oil than Termidor or Dragnet or Premise. But still Orange Oil is an extended localized treatment, it's outragous that companies claim to kill all drywood termites by that.

  • No matter what the argument is in favor of orange oil, you won't be able to get away from the fact that its flammable.

I think Pesticide Truth Seeker is actually an Orange Oil applicant and he's trying to save face.

  • ENVIROMENTAL HAZARDS) Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment washwaters. Do not apply directly to water,or to areaes where surface water is present.,or to intertidal areas, below the mean high water mark,Toxic to Plants,(Spill procedure) remove sources of ignition, read more up top

  • thats really funny the company i had treat my house had treated a bunch of boards in the attic and guess what lays up there folks my house heater, my house has rafters right above it and i know that crap was dripping on to the heater because it removed the the ink on the label that was attached to the heater, the guys wipped off the chemical and smeared the ink on that label, now thats scarry, the reason folks i think that is scarry , the heater is considered a controled fire

  • why do you think? I'll tell you..D-limonene also serves as a paint stripper when applied to painted wood...

D-limonene is combustible, (Its flash point is 115 degrees) and limonene has also been considered as a bio-fuel!

Limonene and its oxidation products are skin and respiratory irritants.

Even the old tried and true pyrethrins (from chrysanthemum flowers) are no more toxic to you then household cleaners once the piperonyl butoxide is removed and replaced with other synergists.

  • @nogames66

You know alot. Please confirm if his story about d-limonene fumes causing an explosion is true. Thanks.

  • Limited information is available on the health effects of inhalation exposure to d-limonene in humans, and no long-term inhalation studies have been conducted in laboratory animals (as with all other available chemicals). D-limonene is biodegradable, but due to its low flash point (115 degrees), it must be treated as hazardous waste for disposal.

  • Citrus Oils May Treat Asthma

An Ozone-Scavenging Compound Is Key Ingredient, Say Researchers

By Miranda Hitti, WebMD Medical News Reviewed By Michael Smith, MD on December 16, 2004 Citrus oils contain a compound that could help treat asthma, new research shows.Israeli researchers have already had success in lab tests with rats and are currently working on more trials with animals and humans. If the compound, called limonene, proves helpful, good news for millions of people worldwide.

  • A series of studies was conducted that investigated the toxicity of d-limonene (>99% pure) in both rats and mice. In the first of the preliminary range-finding studies, doses ranging from 413-6600 mg/kg/day were administered by gavage in corn oil to five animals. All but 2/20 rats and 1/20 mice that were administered 3300 and 6600 mg/kg/day died.

  • Orange oil Label,D-limonene (precautionary statement) hazards to humans and domestic animals, irritating if swallowed, causes eye irritation,,do not get in eyes, avoid skin contact, may cause allergic reactions in some individuals.

  • All the chemicals we normally use (except Vikane gas) carry the signal word CAUTION, (including orange oil) indicating it is a catigory 3 chemical by level of toxicity. All of these chemicals including orange oil say harmful if inhaled. They are all potentially toxic and should be handled that way

  • Primepat85, JunkScience2 stated: How silly! Orange oil is injected into the galleries not broadcasted. Maybe we should stop pumping gas in our cars or stop using W D Forty in our homes. Then goes on to state that it is only sold to companies that are willing to be trained. I understand why now, your statements and this video, clearly underline the flagrent misuse by so called pest control experts. Stay away from these guys, their pushing dangerous chemicals and don't want to be trained.

  • Once again your not too bright or not experienced in termite treatments. Or you probably work for an orange oil company and you only know what you have been told because you have only about a years experience in the industry. Once again, it doesnt matter what you use to kill the termites, you have to get it on the majority of them or you lose, unless you use a non deterrent or transfering chemical. Scam, Scam, Scam, Scam, Scam BS

  • Primepat85, it's pretty typical of an individual to cast insults and dispariging comments when he is unable to defend his position. Who has the knowledge and who is the scam...the video and it's content are the scam, these exchanges have provided you with a great deal of "factual" data, however, you choose to keep your head in the sand regarding the detrimental effects your industry is causing...end of discussion

  • I guess you don't read to well or your just blind. First of all I need to tell you about the transfer of chemicals in drywood treatment. Studies through research has showed that drywood termites will not let the colony be infected through chemicals that are transfer through other termites. In N P M A Field guide shows research that drywood termites will exclude the infected termites from the colony. This is why we use orange oil. It has a capillary mode of action. Knowledge is power! Power!

  • If knowledge is power then I'm sorry to say you are powerless. If painting one side of a 2x4 saturates all the way through the wood then drilling holes in the wood like the label says would not even be necessary. A little too much would soak through the sheetrock and damage the paint. The orange oil will remove paint like most "solvents" do. I'm done wasting my time with your non sense

  • I am looking at the technical release as I am typing this. It states " the maximum volume of XT-2000 permitted by the label was injected into each board". I see no statement about saturation. Not at what I am looking at

  • Maximum volume is full saturation. Try tenting a structure with half the volume of gas and see were that gets you. Failure!

  • Looking at the xt-2000 label there is no mention of full saturation. Full saturation would have to be done by submerging wood into the product for prolonged period of time. The label says " avoid splash back or run off". In my opinion you could NEVER reach saturation without run off.

Magic oil or marketing madness? You decide. Too many people are being "suckered" out there

  • Knowledge is power. Paint orange oil on one side of 2x4 you will get full saturation. Orange oil will travel for days if not weeks. It penetrate through the cells of wood liquefying the the termites and collapsing the eggs.

  • Come on Steve, balsa wood would ignite with a spark. How I understand it, the orange oil company will only sale to companies that are willing to be trained. You should inquire! GOOD DAY!

  • Dow Agro Science recently released a test done at UC Berkely showing the efficacy of xt-2000 at about 70%. Thats not awful, but if I was only going to get 70% I would use a non deturrant like premise or termidor. Let the termites do the work.

  • It is a "Technical Release" by Dow Agrosciences, "Laboratory Evaluation of Efficacy of Orange Oil (XT-2000) for Control of Drywood Termites in Naturally-Infested Boards." See askthebugman Web site to view.

Dow Chemical Co., manufacturer of sulfuryl fluoride (Vikane), announced a new program at UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley got a $2 million gift from Dow to research. Additional funding is expected and is directed by Dow executive, Tony Kingsbury, will serve as executive director of the program.

  • So what. The Orange oil XT-...... has had most of the research done in Florida by "people" who were given "donations" "grants" etc. Come on. I have no doubt it kills termites though. So would just about anything. I could inject soda into wood and kill them. But what is best for most situations? It's not always Orange oil I assure you.

  • So what you say? How about unbiased sound science. This wreaks of "Chicago Politics", "pay to play", Dr. Blago works with Dow!!!! and the California Fumigators who want to gas us for money!

  • I am not a Cal fumigator. I do local treatments all the time. I do not always recommend fumigation for drywood termites. I do look at the situation and try to do the best possible thing for the customer and ridding them of the problem in the most economical and safest way. I use Eco-Smart products, Termidor or premise. Eco Smart has some good stuff. On an Orange oil $1100.00 treatment, mine would be about $400.00. I simply don't rip people off. Plain and simple.

  • Buyer Beware, A product you mention is composed of 9.1% active ingredent fipronyl, "inert" ingredients 90.9% (which means its a secret and can be very toxic) both of which may cause toxic reactions. Common actives in insecticide products are fipronyl, pyrethrin, pyrethroids, organophosphates, carbmates, organochlorines. All these insecticides kill by interfering with their nervous system. All potentially cause toxic reactions in pets and humans (diarrhea, vomiting, tremors, seizure and more).

  • Sulfuryl fluoride is a known greenhouse gas, as reported in a recent UC Irvine Study Jan 2009. It is a dangerous chemical that should not be used in the environment. Remember, DDT, chlordane and aldrin were many chemicals the pesticide industry swore by but were later found to be extremely dangerous. Sulfuryl fluoride is in that category.

We all know that oranges aren't dangerous and won't hurt the homeowners that use it or the environment.

  • Dow Agro payed for the report? In the report it is stated orange oil reached full saturation of the wood. If orange oil reached full saturation and orange oil liquefies the the exoskeleton of the termite then all termites would be dead. This only shows the lack of knowledge some of the so called professionals in the industry provide to us the consumers.

  • omg I didn't realize that orange oil was so dangerous!

  • Don't believe a word this guy is saying! He is either lying, or ignorant of the facts, it's outragous that he put himself out there on the web with this garbage, nice try Steve. Do not fumigate with Sulfuryl Fluoride...The benefits do not outweigh the potential risks!!!

  • The fact is that the flash point of xt-2000 is 115 degrees as noted on the msds. He is neither lying or ignorant. Go green with thyme, rosemary, wintergreen or mineral oils. Go less impact with termidore.

  • How silly! Orange oil is injected into the galleries not broadcasted. Maybe we should stop pumping gas in our cars or stop using W D Forty in our homes.

  • Good luck locating enough galleries to kill the infestation. Since orange oil has no tranfer effect and is a deterrent, once the wood is "poisoned" the termites not killed will move away from the area. And really, we should probably stop pumping gas. It's probably the most toxic thing we do. I am a termite operator and you know what...the most toxic thing in my shop labeled "DANGER" is Goo gone citrus cleaner and some Lysol. Go figure. Too much "going green" is a scam!

  • The violations of federal and states laws in this video are too numerous to convey. But here's a few, It is a violation of FIFRA to use a product that is inconsistent with it's label. Purports to cast doubt on the efficacy of Orange Oil, which is extremely misleading, a violation of law which states : it is unlawful for any licensee, or any employee thereof, directly or indirectly to make...represent, claim...which is unfair, deceptive, untrue or misleading...

  • 10 Hurt as Blast Levels House; Torrance: At least 80 other homes are damaged in the powerful explosion. Officials say some sustain buckled walls or collapsed roofs. The Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles, Calif.: Aug 14, 2002. pg. B.1

A house tented for termite fumigation (sulfuryl fluoride gas..the stuff this guy is pushing) in Torrance blew up Tuesday, damaging at least 80 homes and injuring 10 people.

The blast, leveled the one-story house and scattered debris over a two-block area

  • I actually have the picture from that article posted on the wall of my office. The cause of that blast was due to an extra gas meter being illegally installed in a "room conversion" from what I have been told. That would never happen in Nor-Cal because PG&E are the ones responsible for disconnecting and capping the meter. If things are not done right, bad things can happen with ANYTHING!

  • I had my home treated by a company who uses Orange Oil (D-Limonene) for use in termite control, around 1998. They drilled holes through the drywall to penetrate the wall studs, and the technician would then inject the orange oil through the drywall into the studs, the problem was that the orange oil saturated the drywall, 4 days of headaches, from the v.o.c coming out of the drywall i finally had to remove the smelly drywall to get the smell out, only to find live termites,i know it doesent work

  • Orange Oil is not a cholinesterase inhibitor, Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) by FDA, not on the EPA hazardous substance list, not a TAC (Braddock 2004), not carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic, not a Prop 65 compound. Not rated as acutely toxic. Significantly less toxic and environmentally burdensome replacement for exempt halogenated fumigants (conforms to TSCA). Not a VOC that promotes tropospheric ozone formation nor stratospheric ozone depletion good vs. bad ozone US Nuclear Reg Comm

  • you can say all of those things never the less it gave me a headache like there was no tomorrow and as soon as the drywall was removed so was my headaches, you may not be alergic to grass but if i told you i was its because my body is different and reacts differently ,i know a lot of people who cant stand the smell of perfume or other nice smelling things because the odor make them ill,so if there is anybody out there considering using orange oil ,BEWARE

  • Orange oil is D-limonene. D-limonene contains Terpene and Terpenoid. Terpenes are natural products derived from plants. The biological and ecochemical functions of terpenes have not yet been fully investigated!

Taken from a 2007 study Terpenes are local irritants and, thus, are capable of causing GI signs and symptoms. CNS manifestations from an altered mental status to seizures to coma. Aspiration is a particular concern and can result in fatalities and long-term complications.

  • well i have read the label on D-limonene, and here is what is says what may explain my headaches i had after treatment, label is stated like this(STATEMENT OF PRACTICAL TREATMENT) IF INHALLED, REMOVE PERSON TO WELL VENTILATED AREA, well ,even the label says it will smell,i have not complained because i am not that kind of person but i am sure if you have clients that are not so nice ,you guys are going to have a ton of law suits.

  • how about providing some proof. Complaint doc. SPCB complaint. BBB complaint? Anything?
