That's a CPU fan, it's clogged, I have had much experience with this, If you open the computer the small fan near that vent should have something clogging it if not it needs to be replaced. I would do it myself don't take it in, don't run the computer too long it will overheat, hope this helps.
I have exactly the same problem. I sent it back to Apple, they replaced the logic board, but the sound is still there every time I try to use my Firewire Audio interface. It makes recording impossible.
@CPGANGchannel im sure you commented this so people would like it and you would feel awesome. but they didnt. and its because your not funny and that was a terrible joke.
@judyfriend13 its your fan I took mine apart today to investigate, your fan could be dirty, and need to clean it :D after I cleaned the fan it seemed to stop, for now any way
ITS DEFINITELY THE FAN, i ignored this and my fricken macbook pro (early 2008) over heated... and the logic board fried. i suggest you back up everything on you macbook and make sure you fix this or youll lose everything! :S
It gets stuck on itself and starts making that noise. I HAVE to thwack it or else it will start overheating. I watched SpeedFan (CPU temp measuring thing) while it was stuck once, and while on idle, the temperature kept going up and up and up. On normal idle it goes around 140-150 degrees F. (AMD Dual Cores in laptops can be a freakin fireball) It went up to 200 F. Only get that when gaming.
@TheBagelTornado An update on that, (this is a secondary account) the internal fan on my HP laptop is now fully dead. It won't even turn. It was reaching temperatures upwards of 210F and shutting down automatically to prevent damage, even while running only Firefox. Temporary fix though; Put my giant fan right on the vent and it works better then what the fan inside it ever did.
Internal fan ever breaks? Just stick a high powered fan on it, cheap fix. ;D
It is the cooling fan. Do not 'tap it' to make it go away. If you have the knowledge to remove the casing and replace the fan I suggest you do so; or have a professional do it for you. A fan that is not cooling as it was designed will cost you much more money in the long run; like replacing a burnt out board or processor.
Hey there, I looked at this video after googling 'macbook noise' as mine's been making same agonised squealing... Thanks to 'SaveDaveCampaign' comment below, I also tapped the back lightly and all stopped, I now have a nice quiet Macbook again! Cheers! :-)
Ok everytime i turn on my macbook Mac os x it makes this weird noice in the right top side of my keyboard.
And everytime i turn on youtube for a while it makes this statick noice in the speakers! The noices come and go out of no where! I would call but it is Thanksgiving and all bestbuys and mac stores are closed! :( Please help reply)
@OfficialChristina4u same with mine bro. Top right fan seems like it is spiinning out of control. Had the computer for about two years and its worked fine until the other day I heard the noise. Sometimes it quietens down a bit but not for long.
how much do Apple charge for cleaning or replacing the fan....?? My macbook makes a fan noise to, but its not as bad as this guy's lol, just annoying, its really low, but gets a lil louder when the fan speeds up
MAC zealots, time to FACE REALITY!! Apple is giving you crap Quality control (china) while marketing it with glossy nice appearance, high price, overselling the quality.
okay. I had the same think but i found out what it was. It is the fan in the laptop i might stop but if it does not send it back to apple for then to give you a new fan
i know what that is....thats the fan hitting against loose wires, the service guy didnt go a great job lol....he most likely didnt tuck in the wires very well
Similar (but much louder) issues with my iMac -- turned out to be fans AND logic board. Don't know if that would apply to MBP but would advise taking to an Apple Genius Bar if at all possible -- only way I ended up getting decent help.
well there are only 5 moving parts inside a macbook pro that could be making that noise. could be the two rear fans or the cpu fan, could also be the disc drive, or it could be the hard drive. Sounds more like somethings stuck in one of the fans or the disc drive is stuffed.
Hi, i buy´d my MacBook Pro 15inch for n week ago. Well, when i´m turning my macbook on, it´s making some sounds.. like the hard-drive are working or something..
"i don´t know " - but can anyone tell if it is normal that my MacBook are making these sound´s when i open my Mac..?
Mine is doing the same thing. It is a cooling fan it has two one under each speaker. Mine is still under a parts warranty, I am not happy at having an 9 month old $2,300.00 computer that is broken.
I have the same problem... is it the fan?? I dust my keyboard all the time? How do I repair this? I been looking all over the net before going to an Apple store which I don't have money for.
is your computer less responsive when you hear this noise or not? If it is, then it's very likely your HD, if it is not, it is probably a bad cooling fan.
I have the same problem too. Both on my osx and xp. I took it to the genius bar and told them that I was listening to music and web browersing and it started to make noise like that. Annd they told me some stupid response. "You need to get an external hard drive to run your music from" I'm starting to loose hope in mac =(
And I don't download stuff, so that's not the case
My MBP does the same thing when I run games with boot camp. I think it's because i downloaded Fallout 3 torrent. My computer was downloading every night for a week.
in case you didn't notice all of my favourites are made by the same person whos my friend. Hell i could give a shit about halo I just added the videos because he made them.
