You are right, these are ballistic missile defense (BMD) batteries in Poland and a tracking radar station in the Czech Republic supposedly to guard Europe against possible missile attacks by Iran; however, the planned deployment of U.S. missile defense systems will be at Russia's front door. In retrospect those were good times, as sick as it sounds. The new Russia has oil, they have revenue, the kind of revenue that drove the USA into prosperity in the 50s. The USSR has not dissapeared, it has simply downsized and rebranded itself.

And that makes sense right? I mean the fact that Iran doesn't have nukes + doesn't have medium range ICBMs doesn't really matter does it? This shield isn't going to protect anything, its only there to put pressure on Russia, well we're pushing back what did you expect? Not that your little shield physically concerns us, we have nukes that can bypass and enough regular ICBMs to overwhelm it easily, however it is an insult.

But the real question here is "Why is Russia so upset about a missile defense system that basicaly equates to a bank security guard." Any bank can be robbed by an overwhelming force, the defense shied is not intended to protect the world from Russia, it's to protect the world from the clowns who wanna be playas.

Eh, because America's reasoning for putting it up there does not make sense. Iran has no nukes and Iran has no means of delivering a nuke into the area covered by the shield. And between Russia and the west the tensions are at all time high since the cold war, we don't like US getting involved in our sphere of influence.

Iran may not have a nuke right now but eventually they will. Maybe three years, maybe five or ten, who knows. The point is the system is DEFENSIVE not offensive, so if the Kremlin monkeys think so highly of their nukes...why are their knickers in a twist? It's like complaining that a store puts in a security system. Only the would be criminals object. It's hard to believe the US and Russia worked together at one point in time. It's a shame.

Maybe we should be more suspicious of the businenesses in defense contracting rather than our governments. subs dont carry icbms, they carry slbms. also,ssbn's carrying slbm's only operate in deep oceans to avoid detection. the us may however have deployed one of the recently converted ohio class subs, which can now carry 154 tomahawks, which may be nuclear or not.

It depends what kind of sub and how deep it is, and to sink carrier russia would Tu 160 with nuclear rockets on it. The would send like 4 of them. Every plane will fire 2-4 rocket's at carrier and even if one hits the carrier it's going down, like everything in the range of 20 miles
