I dunno~ I disagree. I'm a foodie and I work with others who also call themselves foodies. We follow trends in organics, bioavailibility, nutrition, superfoods, and sustainability. We tend to like finer foods and shun cheap processed, name brand or franchise food. Yes, we would rather follow a recipe that calls for fresh basil. We are amateur food critics and know when the taste in something is lacking. Better yet, we are always looking to make food BETTER.
I might be a foodie. Because I like to eat and like to learn about foods and how to make them(like watching Food Network), but I'm not one who cooks alot. Nor do I constantly look up or think about food. I don't know but thanks for the interesting fact chick4065! :D
Great Foodie video. I believe my husband meets all criteria for a Foodie(sp).this is my first experience with the term and the criteria for one being considered a Foodie.
thanks so much,; I really enjoyed your presentation and introduction to the "World of Foodie".peggy
This will make the ingredients go about 10 X farther, because it will make use of every bit of flavor in the ingredients rather than just whats in the outside layers that get drawn out during cooking, so youll save a lot of money by using much less ingredients to make better quality food. & if they cant be minced small enough not to be a problem eating, then Id suggest they be boiled to get the flavor out of them and then strain out the particles and use the broth for the soup.
And galangal, a root similar to ginger but more bitter & very hard to chew up well enough to swallow, and lemongrass, which is kind of hard & pointy and hard to chew and may cause u to choke on it if u try to swallow it. So my idea for improving it, would be to take these 3 ingredients and mince em up in a food processor with water till all the pieces are so small they will not even need to be chewed and cant cause you to choke, but instead can be swallowed easily.
Am I a foodie? You tell me. One sort of hobby of mine is I always think of ways to improve things, including the food I eat. My favorite food is Thai food, and I love it so much, but I still find myself thinking of ways to improve it. My best example would be Tom yum goong soup. It has 3 ingredients that add flavor, but themselves are not too pleasant to eat. These are lime leaves, which are like plastic and take forever to chew up and are too strong in flavor to eat themselves.
A foodie is not necessarily a gourmet. For instance, I really like instant ramen noodles, and I use them when I throw together lunch, but I don't necessarily use expensive or complicated ingredients.
And all this time I thought that people who studied the preparation of food were called...now hold on to your seats..COOKS!!! We should just start calling people who enjoy riding bicycles for recreation pedophiles (get it?) instead of cyclists. Because the English language just isn't exciting enough for some people. I kid, I kid.
I'm not a foodie, but naturally, I love to eat good food. My roomate, who is Hmong, loves to prepare food, and experiment with different foods to make great dishes. I don't think it's the last thing on his mind at night, but he certainly has the aptitude for being a chef. I think he's a foodie.
Seriously...Do you have any idea how cute you are?

Excellent. What would you call a music foodie? Or rather would a musician who loves to learn be called a music-ee?
I study food at some fast food places and I will tell you I'll never eat at some of those places again. Great thought pervoking video.
