@franklinjonesii You could say the same thing about any destroyed city. There's plenty of interest in Pompeii, but it hasn't been rebuilt either. Generally, destroyed cities aren't rebuilt, certainly not very often millenia ago when resources are harder to come by. However, Babylon was rebuilt, it's just called Al-Hillah today. I'm guessing that once Baghdad was built in the 8th century, it made more sense to trade goods there then in the rubble of Babylon.

I suggest you learn the difference between Judaism and Christianity. The rules for the rabbis set in Leviticus do not apply to Christians.

Also the ritual was the way of showing faith. The method works though, blood is high in iron which kills most forms of plants and fungus.

The types of birds found in that region do not have enough intelligence to be psychologically scarred, if they did then the normal horrors of hunter and prey in the animal kingdom would have already done so.

Oh c'mon Jack. You know as well as I do that this is a stupid silly ritual performed by stupid silly people. I seriously doubt bloody water would have worked to kill off mildew. It would probably make it worse, given the moisture content. The iron that in a bird's blood I can't imagine would be any higher than what the walls already had.

If the rules for Leviticus do not apply to Christians, then why do other rules in that book apply, such as homosexual acts or incest?

Iron is highly toxic, just ask the Aztecs. :) If the Hebrews at the time had the technology to produce bleach I'm sure God would have told them to use it. Those actually don't apply either. Of the Old Testament only the Ten Commandments, parables, and prophecies apply to Christians, beyond that its do unto others as you would have done unto you. Which makes me believe that the Christians I know your referring to want to be judged harshly.

Your example is based on the assumption that it wouldn't work. Iron is poisonous when concentrated. I agree that the whole idea sounds silly, but I also understand that they didn't have disinfectants and it did make people aware of a health hazard.

Very few were probably homeless for long, in those days you could build a home more or less where you wanted, and there were also the other members of your tribe and community that would help you rebuild and take you in while it was being done.

However, in defense of those people. At the time, God told man to be fruitful and multiply. Incest leads to many deformities and mental disorders, not exactly fruitful (though the incest does get put to the test in the story of Lott and his daughters). And homosexual relationships don't result in offspring, which means they don't multiply.
