This came out around the time that a lot of black Europeans were producing great music. You had Les Nubians, Eagle Eye, Seal and of course Neneh Cherry...I'm pretty sure the success of this single owes a lot to '7 Seconds' and it wouldn't surprised me if Stephen himself got inspired by it with it's descending chords and deep bassline. The album is so so good- To all the people who have the album called 'Spirit Tales' make sure you cop the original Swedish version of the album entitled 'Alone'

This album is from 1998. I remember when I first heard it 12 years ago. It was automatic and timeless. Didn't get much play back then and the project didn't get much push but even today this album is a must have if you do not own it.

The great artists don't get fare breaks if their budgets and marketing machine are lacking.

Same here. After 'Spirit Tales' album I wasn't able to listen to anything else from him. Maybe went a different route to appeal more to mainstream? It would have only taken one strong record to get him paid. Radio spins, radio performance shows, touring, crazy sells, merch, etc. Less politics back then too. But we still need more indie acts to deliver this sound and feel. Bring the spirit back to Soul. Hate to say it, but those days may be sooo far behind us at this point.
