And for the other crew chiefs that chimed in about how they are crew chiefs am i sorry for you but don't FLY in your aircraft you are in maintenance!and getting strapped to a wing does not count. Now knock out this 40 hour inspection because i am going home!

Looking for a Blackhawk Crew Chief

Just dropped my 18 yr. old son off at Ft Eustis for AIT - 15T

Signed up for six yrs. as a reservist. After AIT he goes back to Texas and into ROTC with his reserve unit at Texas Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.

Eventually wants to fly Blackhawks - is he on the right track ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Basically, they're in charge of the guys who fix up the aircraft. Like, an F-16 has a group of mechnics, and the crew chief is in charge of its maintainance, and on a UH-60 Blackhawk, they are in charge of whatever the pilot can't take care of while flying. To the best of my knowledge.

Old timer, retired 05. Crewchief is same job mechanic, selected, and takes ownership of aircraft. Maintains aircraft, stays with it, pilots switch in/out, as do crewchiefs when needed. Crewechief owns the aircraft in flight from pilots area back, all loads from slingloads, passengers, internal loads. Damn good job, I loved it...:) Pilots will tell ya Crew Chiefs the man/woman the rely on every flight..also get to rock that door gun...
