Whoah. I'm going to be learning this, and hopefully I'll get it done by Christmas. *As if. I will take a century, most probably. And that's more than a bit ambitious.*
@hfleung100 Good luck lol I can imagine a scenario where it takes another 300 years before someone plays this piece, as well, or even close to the way Glenn plays it here.
Why do atheists have such an issue with almost every talented musician from the baroque>classical>romantic eras being deeply religious? Get over it, i don t believe in any sort of God myself however there s no doubt all these men were inspired by their faith and it shows in many instances of their work. If Bach were alive and you told him his music were proof of (his) God's existence he'd most likely take it as a compliment.
@devilxhlywood i don't. i'm an atheist, also a pianist, and i can't deny the fact bach was a genius. i love him. as you said, faith inspired him,it shows that religion has good sides when it comes this way.

@walterm85 I apologize if I've misinterpreted you, I thought that the last sentence of your comment (from "4 weeks ago") implies that this claim is valid. Is this incorrect?
@walterm85 How should I know? im a professor of Armchair philosphyr not a mindreader:) only you can know the exact specifics of what you believe in. Generally though when people refer to a god they are talking about something supernatural. That is exists outside the natural world and the laws that govern it.

janjohandealgenman and EricTheRed03. I've wish to take nothing from Bach, and apologies if you think that I did; I believe that he was the finest musical talent ever to have walked the face of the planet. I also believe that Glenn Gould was the best interpreter of his keyboard works by an order of magnitude. Bach was a profoundly religious man, and in tandem with this I thought of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently books and their Bach reference.
@janjohandealgenman, Bach was able to get his hands on scores from all over Europe at Leipzig at least, and he also traveled to Denmark at one point to study with Buxtehude for many months. Bach did not compose in a cultural vacuum. I love his music too, but it is not *solely* his own.
And part of the wonder of his music is that it is at once intellectually rigorous and emotionally sublime. If you can't understand how that is a powerful argument for god, at least refrain from insulting others.
@walterm85 The existance of intellectually vigorous and emotionlly sublime things isn't an arguement for your particular brand of a god. If you try to turn it into one then your making an argument from incredulity. If you want to pursue being an armchair philospher i suggest you brush up on your knowledge of logical fallacies.
i pray him to give me virtuosity, speed, strengh and the power of making the piano a little orchestra, sounding every voice as a diferente instrument.

Masterpiece, truly divine. One of Bach's best piano pieces (originally for harpsichord since there wasn't a piano in his time).
