  • Psychadellic

  • how do you achieve this kind of tone?

  • orgasmic

  • Also, anyone here claiming to be a musician should be able to hear that there are multiple tonalities rather than just "staying in E", he's doing a lot of interesting chord progressions, not all essentially related to E but rather revolving around phryigan and lydian keys, as well as harmonic minor and major modes.

  • Yah!!!!

    He is consummate!!!!

Very talented, very skilled and very fluent :))

  • he registered that in the 80's !!!!!!!!

  • Don't know why, but I find Jonas' bass play somehow very addictive... I can listen to his solo bass all day along and don't get tired.

  • Jonas Hellborg is a fucking genius

  • His faces are just silly :(

  • @cozzee how do you think YOU look when your having sex!..............LOL

  • funny how cats who limit their own ability praise guys that suck!

  • its not that they arent as good. theyve all got different styles

  • Super Slap!!!

  • all due respect this guy does have bass skill but hes not my type of bass style so i dont like it

  • That intro is so bad ass!

haha listen on the audience trying to clap the rythm

  • Probably will upset a few people, but I think mark king is a better slap solo'ist, can't argue with Jonas' talent, but Mark I think has the edge on the fast style of slap soloing :O)

  • Mark King is faster, but sloppier.

  • Well my comment on everything said about Wooten is that he is just an amazing bassplayer of styles we already knew.... I mean a very good copy of all.

  • I like this solo, but I think I'm ignorant, can someone please help me? Whats the point of a double-neck bass? Like what does the top have that the bottom doesnt?

  • the bottom neck is fretless

  • i like hellborg, wooten, dickens, pastorius the same. all it means is more music to listen to, its childish to pick a favorite.

  • Sorry, i just don't see any novel musicianship when bass players can't get out of E for minutes on end. Try listening to Wooten or Seth Horan.

  • I understand the criticism but it is strange you mention Wooten because he isn't musically interesting to me. Folks like Garrison and Feraud, yes. And Hellborg has come a long way since this clip.

  • I'm very surprised you don't find Wooten musically interesting, but fair enough, you like whom you like. I'd like to hear some more current Hellborg.

  • Funny, Wooten allways plays in open keys as well. He's allways retunning for different keys or using his tenor bass when he wants a different sound. I have the Wooten bass book as transcribed by Wooten, and every song is in an open key. So I don't see why you would think he was supperior, and besides what's wrong with open keys anyway? Open strings naturally sound good and more resonant. Just because you play in Eb doesn't mean you're awesome it just means you're in Eb.

  • Wooten is one of the most musical bassists out there.

  • Yeah actually I have been hearing alot about Wooten latley and I dont really find him intreresting either. I pefer this guy or John Entwistle, even though they are supposedly not as good.

  • Listen to Wooten with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. He is fantastic.

  • with or without bela fleck or wooten family or corea...etc...

wooten is amazzZZZZzzzzzing! michael manring is a great musician to !

    bass wishes ;-)

  • There is a difference between "can't get out of e" and choosing to stay in E. If you write of a player after seeing him play in E in one little video you're ignorant.

  • No I didn't comment after seeing one video, there are quite a few examples of staying in E. And there's nothing wrong with open string keys, they sound great, but don't confine yourself to just one for minutes on end is all I'm saying.

  • Write to him and tell him that he shouldn't be doing that. Maybe he will give back his Bass Player magazine Editors Award.

  • bass playing isn't a competition, stop making it into one.

  • Maybe he likes the sound of it? You didn't write that solo, he did, so I guess you've got no say in how he should play it.

Then again you're free to say how you'd prefer it, but in the end it's HIS music and he can do whatever the beep he wants with it...

  • Tinney, I'm with you. Antics in E. Woopty doo!

  • its been fucking over-dubbed lol - good one parliamentfunkadelic, quite a convincing attempt.

  • i've met him !!!!!!!!111111

  • Tinney14, this gut is more musical than your dumb ass falling through wind chimes

  • I'm getting sick of slappers staying in the key of E cause its convenient

  • "Convenient"? You don't know that the sound of a loose E string is irreplacable?

  • jonas and shawn ... that was a fantastic duo ...

  • amazing i love jonas.

  • @ gr8tmir

sure, look at kai eckhardt witz Mclaughlin

  • Great!

I never knew things like double-neck basses exist...

  • great video.Hellborg rocks with McLaughlin and Bill Evans in this great concert, I gues the drumer was Narada Michael Walden, check out Hellborg with the late Shaw Lane, especially the DVD concert in Paris with Vinayakran Brothers.
