I was never beat. But my parents let me know that it was a possibility if I pulled some BS like my white peers did. But then again, I was mature for my age. I almost never got in trouble. I didn't rebel or do other things that kids in my age group did. I Do think some people over do it when it comes to both permissive parenting and parents who beat on their kids for the smallest offenses. Negative reinforcement only works on the dumber less self disciplined kids.
