glad that u like it, but to be honest it looks like i don't know but i didn't like it at all. this bar doesn't fit the 48 i guess, it would fir better on crossbones!
@chadtowner - Its a "Heavy Breather" air intake/filter. It came from Harley-Davidson and I had it installed before I brought the bike home. Hope this helps.
@xXNinjaVanishXx - I have Vance & Hines "Short Shots" on right now. I was never really an ape hanger fan either, but it makes the bike a lot more comfortable to ride.
@chadtowner I have the Short shots also and i love them.... have you seen the side shots yet? they told me $300 diference so i got the shorties.
Love what you have done with the bike man keep it up and do you! also have you seen the relocation kit for the ignition and wires? looks nice i think but i cant find the kit... oh well... enjoy man and keep the rubber side down.
Hi mate I live in Australia since 1999 and here no yet HD 48 in september 2010 maybe I loke your vedeo evry day I pute ma softail heritage for sale and in October I hope so here in Australia I get me HD 48 I LOVE your bike
looks good man. how was it changing out the clutch cable? i just ordered a 14" set up from hill country customs but 'm a bit nervous to open up the primary.
@tonyantonelli2580 - It was pretty easy. Disconnect it from the bars first. Then, lay it out straight to remove it from the case. Just take your time and it'll go smoothly. I always recommend picking up a shop manual from the manufacturer. HD sells the one for this bike for about 65 bucks.
Thanks for this vid man, just got my 48 last week and was curious how the apes look...your bike looks badass!! Thanks for the info about where to buy them as well..I was wondering which bars to get as I was looking for something easier on my back..thanx again
@ryno490 - Got it from J&P Cycles. Seat was 250, mounting kit was 245. It was not worth it. Keep looking in aftermarket parts catalogs. There are better deals out there.
I'd go with the "Burley" brand bars, and you'll need a cable extension kit also by "Burley". As for labor, it was pretty easy but it does take awhile. **IMPORTANT** You'll NEED and very small flat-head screwdriver. Like the ones for eyeglass repair, but longer. Take your time, don't rush. Another helpful item is the Sportster Shop Manual from your dealer. They're about 60 bucks, but well worth every penny. HD's are archaic machines, and thus, very easy to work on. Have fun, go slow.
Compared to the height of the stock solo seat and the spring seat, did the height change? Your bike looks great, mine should be done in 2 weeks. Didn't order the solo seat cause parts guy said it would raise the seating position about 1 to 2 inches. I'm only 5'-6" so couldn't get it.
"bobbers" have the bars vertical. "choppers" have the bars flush with the trees. the guy has it right for two reasons, A : he wants them there. B : thats the profile a bobber styled bike is supposed to have. fists in the wind, chad.
Really? Oh I didn't realize it was "tacky".....wait.....its my bike......what do I care what you think? I guess its like they say....Opinions are like assholes...Everybody has one and they all stink. Therefore GFYS :)
@chadtowner well look at the state of it, one day just align them and have a look for yourself yeah, its so much more flush, atm it looks like some kids put em on
I have the crossbones but this bike makes me want a Sportster again

ape hangers!!
doubleshotgun02 11 months ago
Its not too bad. If there were some softer springs, I might try them out. But at the end of the day, its pretty much the same as the stock seat.
chadtowner 11 months ago
Is that seat more comfortable? It looks cool as hell. I just don't know how much that "spring" would be comfortable.

thinkin about puttin mini apes on my 48, what did you need to get besides the bars and grips, like wire wise to make it work?
bcp5503 1 year ago
@bcp5503 -
The bars are by "Burly Brand" . Mine are the 14" (36cm).....
What you'll need:
Website: jpcycles
Cable extension kit: J&P Part: 502-108
Website: burlybrand
B28-337 Burly Narrow Ape 14" (1") black - Narrow Glide
You can do the install yourself. Just take your time and it'll take 3 hours.
Good luck, send pics!
Chad
