@kyletango Yes! It is believed that the flutes primary purpose was for hafting to a spear or knife handle. There are several other ideas as well, but hafting seems to be the the most accepted...
Thanks for another great tutorial Jim. I have a high breakage rate when I attempt to flute, and the anvil support method you shared answered a lot of questions for me. Hopefully with practice I'll I'll finally get the results I am looking for.
Well sir, I've had the good fortune to see your whole clovis series (almost cried when the point shattered in vid #4). And I think that really tickles me the most about the whole thing is that we are using one of the more modern expressions of human technology to review the height of technology from about 15 kya. It's so funny about how far we've come in so fast a time. And in part, the reason is that little piece of shaped and sharped rock in your hands. 5* across the board. Keep'em coming.
Yes, I've thought about that too. Flintknappers are few and far between, but this technology allows us to share our skills all over the planet, and in that way brings us together!.....thanks....jim
nice point, man fluting is hard how did they do it so long and perfect back then? I like they way you hold the platforms up to the cam to show it better, should make HD vids and talk about the force direction and understanding the hertzian cone princepal and bulb of force direction and understanding for better clarity on the types of blows and direction for desired outcomes. thnks hawaii knapper, Aloha
On the clovis, is the purpose of fluting for hafting the point to a shaft?

Dear Jim,
this very interesting video on this technique to achieve a typical Clovis point,
I must admit that you are very skilful and clever in your demonstrations.
Beyond your ability you have a remarkable way of teaching the prehistoric lithic technology and primitive,
