  • cuuuuute ~ love that so much!

  • "we're in it for the playing". That sums it up

  • @carsonovaproductions: Congratulations...you poor dumb bastards were, indeed, counter-intuitively LIVING & BREATHING THE SYSTEM that was killing people --- YEAH --- that trip; the NWO & its nefarious Cult of Howqua...white rabbit hole; Merchants of Double-Triple-Whamy-Death: Military Industrial Complex, Drug Cartels, phoney Intelligence (White, Black, Grey: all manner of deception), and YEAH Timothy Leary: a known C_A dog & pony show. You were just another deceived brick-in-the-wall dumbHo

  • wheres phil?

  • ITS UNCLE SAME KENNNNNN KEEE ZEEEE... where have all the bozos gone? RIP

  • Drugs didn't make a hippie. Weed and lsd were a tool for the 'collective mindset' of their generation, but cocaine later killed it. The Dead's music reportedly got better (for a little while) when they consumed coke, but that price paid dearly. RIP- Ron (Pigpen), Jerry, Keith, Brent, and Vince, gratefully dead. Peace.

  • You can tell by their chemistry with each other, that they were all really close friends :')

  • Even Jerry's SPEAKING VOICE was like music.! Shit...it still is. Just because he's passed from this earth, doesn't mean his voice doesn't still sound like music. ...GD was/is always so real, genuine and true, also (like Bobby said) it was never really 'current'. You can't pin down their style as it's influenced from nearly countless different angles. It's really no use trying to explain why, but I know I LOVE all of them and their music beyond words...LOVE

  • Yes, Happy Birthday. Jerry...You were always current...

  • HAPPY B DAY JERRY!

  • where's Phil?

  • TALK ABOUT A CLASS ACT. KIDS LISTENING TO ALL THIS RAP STUFF AND LADY GAGA TODAY... I JUST DON'T GET IT...

  • MISFIT POWER!

  • Man, these guys were just genuinely great people.

  • What a great sense of laughter from Garcia. It is so refreshing.

  • The Beatles and the Dead forever man!

  • amazing musicians and wonderful people thank you GRATEFUL DEAD we love you

  • Comment removed

  • Hard to believe Jerry Garcia was only 39 years old when this was recorded.

  • @mjpunzo Yep - just three months shy of being 39 :)

  • the Tomorrow Show (also known as the Electric Kool-Aid Talk Show) with Tom Snyder.

    Live @ NBC Studios

    New York City, NY

    May 7th, 1981

  • drop the word hippie.. its just about how you live.... its not a fashion, style or trend... just live

  • @bbadphish 100% true

  • There is nothng wrong or illegal about being a Hippie. It's a state of mind that implores people to be good, non-violent and generally peaceful folks. Drugs have nothing to do with being a Hippie unless YOU choose to include them.

  • we love listening

  • Sweet! Misfit Power! Great, great interview. You can almost feel the groove coming from them...

  • "finish school Bobby" I love their sense of humor man.

  • Tom Snyder talks too much during this interview. Bob and Jerry should have talked a lot more.

  • How high or tripped out is Bob Weir?

  • @Kennylennon5 how high are u man..

  • and still going.

  • so fun

  • Is it me, or is Bobby always tripping his face off in TV interviews.

  • @filseyphill always!

  • @caramiacanale I like his style!

  • @filseyphill You are full of it. You think he would drop on go on a TV show in 1981? That is during the cocaine heyday for one, and why would he do that for a TV appearance.

  • Bill Kreutzman=Bill Murray? LOL

  • MISS YOU JERRY! Phil, Bob, Mickey and Bill are STILL out there touring making people happy and binging good vibes. MUCH RESPECT AND LOVE! Great interview wow!

  • Tom Snyder was far and away the funniest asshole on TV...........

  • Wow. Love this interview !!!!!! Favorited

  • Oh, I thought he said "mystic power". ...maybe you gotta stay a misfit to fit into mystic -- not my schtick

  • the big ones always slip away

  • where the hell was PHIL !! ??

  • WONT PLAY

  • It's so cool- Bob Weir, if you didn't know anything about the Dead, looks like some preppy jock who just happened to sit down next to Jerry right before this interview. Don't get me wrong, I think he's great. I'm just talking strictly appearance-wise. Who would ever think this guy is in the Dead? Awesome. Bob and Jerrry are both amazing.

  • @greenfruitface he didn't look like that when he started..

  • @hamsandjenohbacon I realize he didn't look like that when they started. But I'm just saying in this particular clip, you'd never know unless you knew the band, that's all.

  • why cant I find the real acid test movie on here?

  • '' if there are no straight answers i'll do the joking tonight'' ????? what a fucking dick. your talking to jerry fucking garcia and bob wier. i cant belive someone would disrespect them like that.

  • @zachvallow I don't think Jerry or Bob would see it that way.

  • "I put more time in the years"

  • this band totally changed my path of perception when comes to playing music and especially attitude towards life and music as a relationship, ..

  • ahhh the 80's when talk show guests could still smoke on television....nice 'stache mickey!

  • "we didn't think in the begining" that's awesome

  • fkn bob weir isnt even excited about this trip hes just excited cuz he knows he can do it again

  • These two have such a great, light view on life and experience.

  • "thats closer to the truth we never where courant".........

    I realy miss that guy.

  • ....the fuck are you talkin about??? No one was comparing them on this comment board.

  • Just got back from Phestival8 (Phish 3 days in so. cal) it was great.....but man do I miss that heart string tugging Garcia lick...band churning up like volcano smoke until a feirce simultaneous Phil bomb and drum crash/ Bobby jump puts the whole thing over the top. We are so lucky who got to see our good old Grateful dead. Bob spit on me.

  • I listened to festival 8 live. Set 3 on Sunday night was fucking phenomenal.

  • yeah man...the maze was hugely huge.

  • Where the fuck is Phil??

  • man these guys lived an incredible life

  • I saw the boys this summer at Shoreline, they tore it up! sounded great, nice and tight, the crowd had the same sweet vibe as the old shows (we were 7th row!)...but damn...I sure miss Jerry..."they lost their sparkle and just aren't the same"....

  • people always talk about weir tripping here on youtube. read a book, they weren't tripping too much in this period, blow maybe but not dose

    bobboy just has that look

    jerry lives

  • "We didn't think back then."

  • I miss Jerry

  • This is great! Thanks for posting!

  • Jerry drinking coffee at 1:55 is the cutest thing.

  • You should have heard it last night - das right, in your face Snyder!

  • Bobby is tripping face for sure lol

  • yeah he looks like hes in another world..

  • @DSky2001 Bobby is not tripping. You are full of shit. Why would he do that for a television appearance in 1981? If anything they were probably doing coke. That is the heyday for that shit.

  • I just love these guys! Miss the vibe.

  • jerry garcia is only 38 in this video

  • Shit he never aged so well.

  • seriously every jerry and bob appearance bob is tripping and holds it together jerry is nicest guy perfect model for santa clause with the best guitars ever made.. every interview is minty i love the dead man , oh and the best hing is that bob looks like jerry now!!

  • nice job band brotherhood is hard to define but this says it!

The Core four remain and Jerry we miss you. You left us with The Dead.

  • Thank you so much for posting this.... a thousand thank yous .....

  • he def is tripped yall

  • Bobby is tripping...hard

  • he is in every interview

  • man mickey looks like a metal drummer or something.but he's still basically my favorite drummer of all time.i've never seen anyone make a cowbell sound so unique.

  • Should have saw him last night at Nassau Col. Awesome!!! (or maybe you did)...

  • no i'm not just talking about the music i'm also talkin about the political activism

  • Where's Phil?

  • maybe fiddlin w/ the amps or sumthin

  • "We've loved listening"

    Damn right!!!!

  • fuck him man...im happy hippies took all them drugs and ill join them on the cocaine train.there are only a few hippies left and i am one of them

  • are you serious? first of all the real hippies are their 50 to late 60's....and if you're talking about people who enjoy the music the hippies enjoyed. there are many of us...what planet are you living on?

  • @folkrockm14 yeah their aren't many original hippies left, but their are the people who follow in spirit. I only know the dead via CDs, but they have changed my life. A hippie is a peaceful being who works for positive change.

  • @folkrockm14 haha go to the mountains man. thats where all the hippies are. awsome haha

  • @folkrockm14 hippies don't take cocaine

  • @Kurtsantana well garcie did cocaine are you saying that garcia isnt a hippie?

  • @Kurtsantana Many of them did actually... ESPECIALLY The Dead. It wasnt drugs that made a "hippy" who he/she was. it was the collective mindset of the time, aided by the entheogenic experience.

  • @Kurtsantana THAT is funny!

  • @Kurtsantana ??!!!!

  • @Kurtsantana that's way too categorical!

  • @folkrockm14 what are your views on opiates and other "harder" drugs? I feel that alcohol does as much damage to the body as any of the hard drugs, and actually opiates are not inherently bad for the body. Crazy

  • look up the interview snyder did with charlie manson

  • Great interview. Tom Snyder was a pretty stand-up dude.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

  • Thank you for posting this. Jerry's comment about telling Weir's mom that he was going to be OK playing music for a living reminded me of the part in "Almost Famous" where Russell tells William's mom that her son is a stand up serious guy and not to worry.

And Snyder's comment about my parents thinking my generation would be corrupted for life--well, as Jimmy Buffet said "We are the people our parents warned us about !!" Too funny !! Great interview

  • Jesus, is it me or were our favorite clowns just completely and utterly unable to keep still on this storied night? Terrific interview, Snyder was one of the best ever, and the four sans Phil really opened up in a way I haven't seen before or since.

thanks again, I was only 8 years old when this aired, heh heh...

  • Steep....way steep.

  • Thank you, no matter how down I get, I can always put on some Dead!

  • Misfit power. What a class act. bob cracks me up.

  • haha that little elbow thing bobby does at the begining is a good one!

  • The RockPalast show that they talk about is here on youtube and I highly reccomend it.

  • great interview but where's Phil?

  • Choice quote from Weir, with a nice double meaning: "They line up for their little dose of crazy."

  • we do love listening. They really are much more with it than people assume. pretty witty guys

  • Tom Synder was really cool here. So gracious and respectful. I like how he thanked them for playing acoustically in his small studio. I also love Jerry's quote: "I put more time in the years"

  • Tom Snyder is one of the best interviewers TV has ever had, in a rare class that I would put only Charlie Rose among the present-day hosts. Classy and doesn't ask stupid questions; lets the guest take the stage.

  • great interview

  • GD forever

  • thank you so much for this upload been wanting to see it for ages
