They used to make a lot more games like this with high quality art, albeit at then lower resolution. I'm glad there's some developers realising that the demand for top quality adventures never went away, only the value of the dollar went away in housing bubbles, so these aren't done anymore in the US and from software business perspective it may appear foolish to spend most of the budget on meticulous animation, backgrounds and music. But that's where the bar for me spending $ was set in 90s.

anyway you're very lucky if you tried it as your first game as i said, most people starts with commercial games and never understand how beautiful a game with a soul can be

if you liked this try also Limbo and, if you're on Windows, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom..it's two other indie games, the best i've played in the last year :)

I love this game! the story is great, the graphics are hand-drawn, the soundtrack is unique and the environments are insanely detailed..... Just to mention some of the perks..... :)

I really wanted to try this but after watching the trailer it just feels too eerie, I really dislike games that make me feel kinda sad and creeped out, I know that was the games intentions, but they performed those intentions TOO well, the mixture of the artwork and eerie music together make this game unplayable for me, I can imagine males would be fine with it, but I doubt this would attract many females, I wish it were more gender friendly, but not too pansy either. @XxLittleBigKillaxX Why is it that people balk at $9 for a quality indie game, when commercial games you buy in stores cost so much more? :/ The average DS game costs $30, and most 3rd gen titles cost $50-60. For a paltry $9, Machinarium is an absolute steal. It will provide you with hours of quality entertainment. Better that than throwing it away on a move ticket, right?

@FuckedFromAbove1990 It depends. Super Meat Boy can be really frustrating, and I found myelf having to look for playthroughs of Braid when I played it (mostly because I'm not very good). Personally I would go with Machinarium out of those games, but it depends on what style of game you like best.

@Molagbal38 For games like this, watching the "walkthroughs" here is completely equal to watching a full length movie. If I were the developer I'd sue youtube if they didn't remove all the walkthroughs. The game has inbuilt hint system so there's absolutely no need to have the walkthroughs here.

While I love all adventure games by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman (aka. the minds behind Monkey Island), I never truly felt as much enjoyment in other adventure game until now. Machinarium really shines with all it's mini-game puzzles built-in as part of the story. Not only is the game fun by gameplay design, but the art and music really makes you feel as if part of a different world. The story is completely driven by the art alone with no dialog or voice, depicting an epic tale.
