my friend has a m5. alot of people dont know these but the m5 lacks TQ.... 500hp....380TQ.. yes it got power up the ass but bmw didnt want to load it with TQ because they wanted to keep it luxury too. you cant have a car with 500hp and 490 TQ its just to much power for a luxury/sport vehicle.

It doesn't have much torque beause it has tiny pistons revving up very high. It is incapable of producing as much torque as you quoted (490).

An LS7 (new z06) on the other hand has very large pistons, so as they kick over, plenty of torque is made.

It doesnt lack torque for having 500hp. The Ferrari f430 has 483hp and 343ft/lbs... they are high revving, small displacement engines.

The m5 has "bad lap times" (in regard to tis nurburgring time) because its a 4000lb sedan, it cant turn like a tuned sports car like a Ferrari.

American cars (big engines) have lots of torque because of their design. In Europe, you use smaller displacement (insurance reasons) and have less torque, and more hp, due to the compression / redlines

i understand :) ..... but do you agree that for 500 hp ... its not as fast as i think it should be... it hit 0-60 l around 4.5-4.8..... and 1/4 mile around 12.5--12.8, lol insurance reason with a 80k car. dont think people with that car really care... my 17 year old friend has a 2008 m5 no joke!.. thats got to be alot of insurances. i am 18 with a 2010 camaro ss, and its alot on insurances ! its got to be more for his car.

Yes, but from what I understand European countries get taxes on the size of the engine (based per litres) and most high-end European car companies (Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Lambo, Etc.) derive their road going engines from racing programs / technology. They have regulations making them small, but powerful, hence the road going version being small.

Your not understanding, 12.5.... a z06 does 11.7, its 1,000lbs or so lighter. The m5 is LIGHTNING quick. I'd prefer the 205mph top speed over .5 0-60
