  • Incomparable, she is the diva of the 60s, as Callas was to the 50s. Her hair looks bulletproof, de rigueur for that era, but exquisite in all ways.

  • Incomprehensibly, stunningly beautiful, sung by the the incomparable Sutherland.

  • Joan Sutherland is a wonderful singer, however; women can not sing Mattinata, it sounds bad. The characteristic of music is lost.

  • on the contrary i think she nailed this song very nicely

  • I love to argue.

However, it is, of course, difficult to argue with your feelings, they're quite unique. ;-)

  • Of course your are entitled to your opinion but I think this is one of the finest and most passionate renditions of this song ever recorded.

  • I have no argument against it; on the other hand, it does not disturb me.

We feel what we do and we exchange our feelings.

Nowadays I think I like this: There are regular singers, there are better singers, and there are the great stars.

Who is the best among the greatest is only a matter of taste.

However, we must not forget that even the best chess players make bad move sometimes.

  • @ForAll23 I respectfully disagree. I used to think this song belonged to tenors. Now that I've heard her version here, I can't think of any male version I've enjoyed more, even Pavarotti's. The voice is stunningly beautiful, free-flowing and caresses the lyrics. And I like the speed with which she sings it. She owns it now!

For eight months ago, I wrote a reply that began like this: "I have no argument against ..".

Please read it (above your text).

  • glorioso video della Sutherland, un esempio ancora vivente di una scuola di canto italiana ormai perduta

  • Most of the time this song is sung by a tenor.

  • DIVINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tingles*

  • Qué bella! Toda una Matinatta! Brava!

  • singing doesn't really come much better thanb taht, i saw this clip years ago on tv during a documentary about sutherland ,it is a real pleasure to see and hear it again, all that vocal freshness and thrilling vocal riches wrapped up in a couple of minutes, joy! tomblack

  • @mermodfreres yes. they are around right now! :)

  • grande brava

  • The great Gerald Moore accompanying the great Joan Sutherland! This is beautifully sung with tremendous power as well as delicacy. A favorite song of tenors from Caruso to Bjorling and Pavarotti. I don't recall any other soprano having sung it, but I'm sure there must have been some.

  • real matinatta!!!
