  • As of June 2011 we have now treated 110 patients with vaginismus using the technique of Botox injections and progressive dilation under anesthesia together with 3 days of post procedure counseling and supervised dilation. Waking up with a large dilator is monumental for most patients who have never been able to tolerate any form of penetration. Patients are generally successful with intercourse within 2 weeks to one month and in the past 6 years none have needed to return for addtitional Botox.

  • Botox for vaginismus is done under anesthesia. We discuss the safety measures in place, how a number of us are advanced cardiac life support certified and the long term certification of our surgicenter. He comments on the short acting anesthetic agents that are used and the importance of controlling anxiety. He notes that when a patient feels out of control, anxiety takes control. By using short acting intravenous antianxiety agents the patient actually feels MORE in control.
