Interesting to see an attempt to make Valkyrie (er, Veritech) combat without relying on Macross footage. Though the transitions between 2D and crappy CGI are rather jarring.
Perhaps it's just me, but I find a male voice far less compelling than a female. I hated minmei's voice both in english and the original to be honest, but it worked for the song far better than this. This one... I don't actually feel the emotions it's supposed to invoke. I do notice a lot of his faults though, and find his voice completely distracting from the imagery.

@Xamtaro I think you did great with this footage. I kind of like this version more than Minmei's. It has the "good guys kickin' ass" feel.....anime style. Thanks to this, I researched TSC. Only heard of it, but I didn't know it was a.k.a "Episode 86" of the old series. Glad you posted this and glad they continued the story.

@falconmegaman Seriously, thats your you think? You so don't watch alot of anime. Macross saga was clearly the best of the bunch and the Shadow Chronicles is a steaming pile that makes mo sense. Not going to be all fan boy and hur hur Macross is the better series but Robotech tanked hard after the the Masters (more like during it). If I really want to see a series about rebels fighting aliens for Earth I'd watch Exo-Squad before trying Robotech New Generation. SC only screws things up worse.

@falconmegaman Thank you for admitting you haven't seen a lot of anime and no one one will ever say they like the Masters more then Macross as there's just a huge disconnect between the two despite it supposedly being the continuation. The edits weaken the story line thin as it was.

It was 20 actually And what? Ep 37 is intended to be a direct continuation from the Macross Saga (the arrival of the Zent masters after 20 years barely mentioned in Macross saga's final eps.) and is a total filler episode designed to graph the two vastly different series together with 'Diana's Story' despite the fact she's clearly Green haired in one as a baby/toddler and a blonde in the other. That was some flimsy half-assed editing at that.
@SporePediamedia I like Robotech and Macross but Macek just fumbled the ball ion the transition between the series but overall they're all good series. TSC is just one big mess compared to that. They took the part parts of the three series and said more of this but with nice CG.
The singing voice of Yellow Dancer/Lancer is Michael Bradley, who was also the Lead Singer of the band Paul Revere and the Raiders.
And Lancer was not a Tranny, he just dressed and took on the persona of Yellow Dancer to escape the Invid. Though it upset Rand quite a bit when Yellow made it become known of who and what she truly was.

macross was as good as robotech, it's the way anime to the west history played out but yeah I definitely think lancers cross dressing was more than a costume, he was a drag queen for sure unless you can give me a safe link to say otherwise.

@SporePediamedia - that was because they were not able to animate "The Sentinels" and "End of the Circle" which would help make some sort of sense for the "The Shadow Chronicles".
@Tiercel5 so right.....never send messages when you are zonked out...yes..but the shadow chronicles were altered....in end circle....the earth expeditionary forces were totally wiped out except for the ship grant commanded.....and the troops fighting on earth...the author wanted to bring the saga to an end....he also had grants ship carrying other technologies so earth wasn't dependent on protoculture.....but in the shadows..protoculture is "the " pinnacle of science...
@Tiercel5 also sdf 3 was lost in space fold..and was only able to return because they found the original fold system from sdf 1..and install it in thier system..they also returned years after earth had fully recovered.....mind you they got too peaceful for my tastes.......

If by 'better voice acting' you mean the english dub of SDF Macross vs The Macross Saga? I do admit that the TMS is slightly better in terms of english voice acting.
Now in terms of soundtrack, Macross has it better, specially with Yoko Kanno's compositions.

Macross music isn't just rock.For Now a Friend,Ai obete Imasu Ka the original and updated version Voices, Information High and various others don't follow rock.however Macross 7 does and its not to shabby.What I'm trying to say is Macross songs are more than just pop and rock. also worldwide Macross' songs have more following than robotech.I fell in love with Ima wa tomodachi while I shyed away from we will win.and that other song I hate Reba's voice.and the lyrics were shallow for all her music

Anyway Macross was the predecessor and all that followed in terms of animation quality and overall design was better.Robotech however after they couldn't use Macross it became stagnant.and Empire was better. No warrior Ewoks ;)
@antz32 To be fair, it goes both ways and it depends on the role, even if you compare the original macross japanese to english robotech. Gloval had a better english voice but Minmay had a better japanese voice. THe zentradi sounded better in english but Max Jenius/sterling sounded better in jap. both had flaws. AS for soundtrack, Yoko Kanno only composed Macross plus and 7, not the original SDF Macross series.
that is another way of putting it !!! yes, there are strengths and weaknesses in each...Minmay was not as strong as the original...although i thought Cam Clark did a good job with Lancer AND Max...but dont forget the veteran, Greg Snegoff, scott bernard, Khyron...
...i think it was known, He was the best in the business, even at that time...I think he was an instructor at Voice Acting Institutions in 1980's...
@jackhammer10101 Ah yes. Greg Snegoff's Scott Bernard. Much better than Bin Shimada's Stig Bernard. I still think Sho Hayami's Max Jenius had just a tad more personality than Cam Clark's Max cos Clark sounded a little "sissy" at times.

Cam clark's Max Sterling was EXACTLY the calm peaceful natured Lancer...

2. execution
was the execution there. did Cam Clark pull off a "sensitive, kind hearted fighter pilot" Lynn Kyle ended up acting closer to Jenius's part
lynn kyle was supposed to be a peaceful hippie, but had a chip on his shoulder. even a little sharp and edgy...But Cam Clark's Sterling, was a peaceful guy. through and through....eventhough he was "in the military"

@jackhammer10101 Robotech was a retelling not a remake.Also the way Protoculture is viewed in Robotech is very different and simplified compared to what it actually was meant to be.Also I was always interested in the F-14 when I was 7 years old.Therefore when I saw those Valkyries it was over.

I can definitely see why people still like robotech. But I think it died because of lack of original content and a new Robotech releases hsve been cancelled and not coming out.
Also I grew up when the series was starting to shut off on the air, I remember bits and pieces, and I have the Shadow Chronicles Movie.

ROBOTECH and MACROSS are the same thing, up to but not including the end of ORIGINAL MACROSS saga. In normal a Comic book concept MACROSS and ROBOTECH diverge into two separate realities. MACROSS got weird and a few series left me cold. ROBOTECH recovered from Southern Cross and wrapped everything up ending Robotech. Earth is safe and life goes on. MACROSS is like GUNDAM, it just keeps going even after it becomes crap.

It was already preceded by other anime before the 80s and did NOT bring the interest of Japanese culture to the US. You have to thank the forerunners for interesting the American media and that includes Astro Boy, Kimba, and Speed Racer.

That's why the whole robotech "story" makes no sense at all. Nonsenses and huge plot holes are common things in robotech. If robotech had a script to beging with, nonsenses and plot holes will be non existent. robotech = crap. Plain and simple.
Actually I watched it on TV back in the 90s as a kid and found out it was nothing more than 3 anime put together when I got older.

I am not really a fan of MACROSS, in the sense I will waste my life on it, same with ROBOTECH, I am just aware of both and made up my mind on both long ago. I'm sorry but I don't love MACROSS anymore like you do, the series fails to impress me anymore. While I still have a warm spot in my heart for ROBOTECH, warts and all.

Here's one for you. What was the first Anime you ever watched. I doubt it was Astro Boy, Kimba, or Speed Racer. Me It was Battle of the Planets. It was 1983. I really fell for ROBOTECH and STAR BLAZERS. It does not matter what came first to the US, I'm sure LUPIN the THIRD and SPEED Racer came first, in the 1970s. What matters is what got you in.
I was born at the end of the 80s, but I remember far back that the Road Runner cartoon was my first. By the end of the day, I prefer western cartoons because of the animation and characterization, which varies alot.
I agree about what gets you in, but it's really more about what MATTERS. Tell me, did you actually watch SCC and Genesis Climber on their own to see if the story makes more sense?

I did not watch the original versions, it was not required and I wasn't interested, then or now. But from what I gather they were far better in the ROBOTECH whole than alone. That would be more of a reason not to bother.
Also, I prefer American storytelling over Japanese storytelling myself, but my question to was Anime not cartoon, as a source specific citing.
imagine having $10000 and having to produce ROBOTECH and the corporate execs say create 65 eps or green light turns blue...your dead...
so Macek combines 3 anime series....he did an awesome job...and if it werent for the people who saw the originals first and cried FOUL, then there would be no problem...

Si les maquettes semblent bien avoir été édité en maquette sous le titre de Robotech, en revanche la série n'a pas été mixé dans la saga. Il faut dire que Orguss a été animé chez Tokyo Movie Shinsha et non Tatsunoko comme les 3 séries mixés pour Robotech.
Il y a également des clins d'œil de ces séries entre elles dans les épisodes.

Not going to be all fan boy and hur hur Macross is the better series but Robotech tanked hard after the the Masters (more like during it). If I really want to see a series about rebels fighting aliens for Earth I'd watch Exo-Squad before trying Robotech New Generation. SC only screws things up worse.

Ep 37 is intended to be a direct continuation from the Macross Saga (the arrival of the Zent masters after 20 years barely mentioned in Macross saga's final eps.) and is a total filler episode designed to graph the two vastly different series together with 'Diana's Story' despite the fact she's clearly Green haired in one as a baby/toddler and a blonde in the other. That was some flimsy half-assed editing at that.

The singing voice of Yellow Dancer/Lancer is Michael Bradley, who was also the Lead Singer of the band Paul Revere and the Raiders.
And Lancer was not a Tranny, he just dressed and took on the persona of Yellow Dancer to escape the Invid. Though it upset Rand quite a bit when Yellow made it become known of who and what she truly was.

@SporePediamedia - that was because they were not able to animate "The Sentinels" and "End of the Circle" which would help make some sort of sense for the "The Shadow Chronicles".

@Tiercel5 so right.....never send messages when you are zonked out...yes..but the shadow chronicles were altered....in end circle....the earth expeditionary forces were totally wiped out except for the ship grant commanded.....and the troops fighting on earth...the author wanted to bring the saga to an end....he also had grants ship carrying other technologies so earth wasn't dependent on protoculture.....but in the shadows..protoculture is "the " pinnacle of science...

If by 'better voice acting' you mean the english dub of SDF Macross vs The Macross Saga? I do admit that the TMS is slightly better in terms of english voice acting.
Now in terms of soundtrack, Macross has it better, specially with Yoko Kanno's compositions.

Anyway Macross was the predecessor and all that followed in terms of animation quality and overall design was better.Robotech however after they couldn't use Macross it became stagnant.and Empire was better. @antz32 To be fair, it goes both ways and it depends on the role, even if you compare the original macross japanese to english robotech. Gloval had a better english voice but Minmay had a better japanese voice. THe zentradi sounded better in english but Max Jenius/sterling sounded better in jap. both had flaws. AS for soundtrack, Yoko Kanno only composed Macross plus and 7, not the original SDF Macross series.

there needs no plot if the character development and unforgettably wonderful portrayal and chemistry between the ensemble of the cast is there....LOST etc...i understand the need to JUDGE, but cricize correctly, without opinion...
ROBOTECH has flaws, but its ensemble cast and chemistry back and forth between characters are scary...Rick, Max, and Lisa....Bowie, Dana, Louie, Angelo, Philip....Lunk, Lancer, Rook, Annie, and Scott......priceless....

@BillyCauseyjr you know that is your opinion and he respects it but saying that robotech is crap is just a terrorible way of putting it. as for stealing the anime studio nue i think it is missread the contract. if you want to see a stolen anime look at the chinese astro plan. but for people like me who like both series macross and robotech i treat them like what they are supposed to be seprate series no matter if it is three series in one it became different when he wrote the universe for it.

my answer is yes. It had a good run and the mecha designs are for the most part good, even though the only original things are the Haydonite stuff.
This movies good, but the song kinda like a zombie, is nice but lifeless.

I can definitely see why people still like robotech. But I think it died because of lack of original content and a new Robotech releases hsve been cancelled and not coming out.
Also I grew up when the series was starting to shut off on the air, I remember bits and pieces, and I have the Shadow Chronicles Movie.
My zombie comment for me apples to to pretty much all current Robotech stuff, It's really fun but its dead.

@ApsalusSigma dead define dead. I became a fan this year. Hg has been work on mystery project that animation will be done in 2011. There is live action movie in the work still. Most of the fan want more robotech stories. Robotech has more life than the terminator franchise. Not to many people want to see anther terminator move.

ok well if all of you are looking at it that way look at it this way what other shows at the time had any story line to them at all hell even transformers and thunder cats and all of them had no realy story line robotech and macross where the only ones at the time that had somthing that was one even the old ones like speed racer and astro boy did not have a story that ran back to back and now look at what there doing if it sucks so bad then why is it still making money and making more moives lol

One has to wonder why if so many dislike, even to a point of mindlessly hating, ROBOTECH, why they spend time deriding those who express any appreciation for it.
But then I forget I'm dealing with a bunch of dumb kids who just want to be right, even if they are wrong.
No, I am not a fan of MACROSS or ROBOTECH anymore. I outgrew that years ago. I make a simple and informed observation about both series and the monkeys go apesh--. And you wonder why none of your friends have real names.

ROBOTECH and MACROSS are the same thing, up to but not including the end of ORIGINAL MACROSS saga. In normal a Comic book concept MACROSS and ROBOTECH diverge into two separate realities. MACROSS got weird and a few series left me cold. ROBOTECH recovered from Southern Cross and wrapped everything up ending Robotech. Earth is safe and life goes on. MACROSS is like GUNDAM, it just keeps going even after it becomes crap.

Actually, DocWolph, robotech is nothing but a compilation of three seperate anime, with ZERO relation except a laughably horrid script.
It was already preceded by other anime before the 80s and did NOT bring the interest of Japanese culture to the US. You have to thank the forerunners for interesting the American media and that includes Astro Boy, Kimba, and Speed Racer.
Macross is an ongoing UNIVERSE not a single series. New characters are always introduced. -->

That's why the whole robotech "story" makes no sense at all. Nonsenses and huge plot holes are common things in robotech. If robotech had a script to beging with, nonsenses and plot holes will be non existent. robotech = crap. Plain and simple.

Actually I watched it on TV back in the 90s as a kid and found out it was nothing more than 3 anime put together when I got older.
You know, I respect the fact that you like it since technically you ARE a Macross fan, but if you're going to say shit about Macross being 'cold and weird' then I'm going to criticize you back by saying that robotech is crap. Plain and simple.

I am not really a fan of MACROSS, in the sense I will waste my life on it, same with ROBOTECH, I am just aware of both and made up my mind on both long ago. I'm sorry but I don't love MACROSS anymore like you do, the series fails to impress me anymore. While I still have a warm spot in my heart for ROBOTECH, warts and all.

Here's one for you. What was the first Anime you ever watched. I doubt it was Astro Boy, Kimba, or Speed Racer. Me It was Battle of the Planets. It was 1983. I really fell for ROBOTECH and STAR BLAZERS. It does not matter what came first to the US, I'm sure LUPIN the THIRD and SPEED Racer came first, in the 1970s. What matters is what got you in.

I was born at the end of the 80s, but I remember far back that the Road Runner cartoon was my first. By the end of the day, I prefer western cartoons because of the animation and characterization, which varies alot.
I agree about what gets you in, but it's really more about what MATTERS. Tell me, did you actually watch SCC and Genesis Climber on their own to see if the story makes more sense?

I did not watch the original versions, it was not required and I wasn't interested, then or now. But from what I gather they were far better in the ROBOTECH whole than alone. That would be more of a reason not to bother.
Also, I prefer American storytelling over Japanese storytelling myself, but my question to was Anime not cartoon, as a source specific citing.

so Macek combines 3 anime series....he did an awesome job...and if it werent for the people who saw the originals first and cried FOUL, then there would be no problem...
