  • All their best, ground-breaking music was with or about Syd Barrett. Deny it.

  • Mind expanding... too bad the world has become so commercialized that truly expressive art like this doesn't have a chance.

  • So interesting to hear David singing and playing the Syd songs. It is such a shame that there aren't more of them. He may have taught Syd to play but the weirdness in where Syd went with it was too unique for even David to cover properly when he took over. Much better when David started doing his own thing. I've always said Nick was under rated. Look at him go.

  • re: Leonard Cohen comment - thankfully you have your anonymous blanket to hide behind when spouting idiotic comments

  • Leonard Cohen is the poor mans version of Tom Waits....

A Jew with a hard on for pussy not money, is very rare...

  • Examine your existence,

Your distance to a star or the end of the universe,

This is infinity, a concept un conceivable...no human can think an infinity...

IF IT ALL SOUNDS LIKE BOLLOCKS,

IT MUST BE AN ART BAND....

  • and i want Rogers outfit

  • Dang back then Gilmour looks like shane dawson and i thought this was written by Syd Barrett

  • YEAH, 1968 AND NO SID TO BE SEEN ANYWHERE, but the Paul McCartney Rickenbacker Bass in use......WOULD LOVE TO SEE ANY CLIPS OF SID IN THAT HORRIFIC US TOUR WHERE HE JUST STOOD AND DID NOTHING FOR ALL CLIPS EAST TO WEST..

PS I TOLD YOU NEARLY 2 YEARS AGO, USA HAD TO HAVE NEW CIVIL WAR TO GET RID OF ALL VESTIGES OF ALL ITS GOVERNMENT,

NOW ITS TOO LATE......WHAT A YOU CALL HIM...IS.....CALLLLED.....

    MARTIAL LAW.....THAT'S IT NOW.....MARTIAL LAW

  • david gilmour was the best thing that could happen after syd barret

  • and I haven't even DREAMT of someone actually finding this recording and now it's been posted on youtube and not blocked by the GEMA in Germany and I'm on cloud nine. xD

  • Roger Waters looks like an old man since he was a kid...

  • seeing like Milla Iovovich ;-)

  • is this david or syd

  • @JacobSmithUK David Gilmour, my friend. Legendary. I'll bet your next paycheck that he still owns that telecaster, too. Take a look at the Astronomy Domine solo at Abbey Road Studio upload by flojdtube.

  • @JacobSmithUK David Gilmour, my friend. Legendary. I'll bet your next paycheck that he still owns that telecaster, too. Take a look at the Astronomy Domine solo at Abbey Road Studio upload by flojdtube. The neck may have been changed from rosewood to maple...

  • @wasRIOnowWSO that telecaster is a custom shop telecaster, not the original

  • Hammond E-100 going unused. Rick liked the Farfisa. I contend Pink Floyd's sound depends more upon which keyboards Wright was using. Farfisa, Hammond, piano, electric piano, arps. Think about it. He was a sound shaper.

  • The version of Astronomy Domine was amazing...i love pink floyd and that first album!!

  • Much better the Syd Barrett version.

  • im reording 326 repeat that lulls one; is lull the orret verb? 326 to what, though?and should this inlude the announcer/..iguisard? my laptop's keyboard is messed up. i didnt mean to type ANY of that. what the hell IS THIS?! stop hyperventilating, PINK pre wall is a nice, unless you want briks tossed at your fae. i ant argue with that.

  • Only Syd can sing Flaming. A beautiful man

  • Syd could,nt make the scene.

  • I love David's face at 1:18.

  • hit 3:26 over and over you will turn into a sheep, I swear!

  • syd betterù

  • Absolutely flawless Kazoo performance by Waters lol ;))))

  • "Piper" is great but honestly IMO "Madcap Laughs" is a much better album.

  • The emcee is flaming....

  • Roger should have sang all the songs after he booted Syd. His songs sound descent until Dave starts to sing: Let There be More Light, Point Me at the Sky, Dogs as a few examples.

  • @polvotone You're absolutely nuts!!! a little deaf too! lol

  • @MrJro2 Well, I respectfully disagree, and I don't really have any problem with you; really though, I don't hate it all, as I love: Granchester Meadows, The Nile Song, On the Run, Pigs, Vera, Eclipse, Time.

Syd was always my favorite. I liked Pink Floyd, as a kid and I was introduced to Syd while watching Pulse(Astronomy). I bought the stuff and it's had a much bigger impact on me than the other stuff.

  • Pathetic, Gayvid Dillmore. I'm lost for words. Well, Piper was a different band, flat out.

  • @polvotone It's okay. David Gilmour has more talent in one hair one his left testicle than you have in your entire body.

  • @polvotone It's between your teeth with his cock in your brain. He IS NOT talented: his voice sucks beyond all monotony, his guitar playing sounds like fucking elevator music to me.

Keep on rocking out Money, Shine on and all that boring geezer stuff...

  • INtresting version of the song. I still think Syd's version is better.

  • A pissisal moment. Le pleasant gnome et fromage. Roger le grump, Dave le pan flambe, Dandelion Nick & Rick Wright-On!

  • tom brady could play early dave gilmour in a biopic.

  • David gilmour sucks on this one...

  • OMG I have 18 years old and i think this video is gold!!!!

  • the energy on this is terrible....

  • dont get me wrong i LOVE david gilmour but it's weird hearing him sing syd's songs.

  • @beyondthebeat- excellent

  • gilmour looks so accusingly into the camera -- i think he was really deeply ashamed to replace barrett -- and they completely fucked up flaming

  • @MoveOverCasanova yeah, i'd feel awkward pretty much, and seeing your long time friend going out of his mind would've been damn hard to deal with.

  • @MoveOverCasanova I agree, and it must've taken some time to get used to performing on TV, because he didn't had much experience with that

  • Le DJ francais grooving avec les anglais progressives, mais Monsieur Gilmour est embarrassé quand il chant "Flaming". Monsieur Wright, Waters et Mason sont magnifique!!!

  • whats that french geezer on about?????????

  • boo! no Syd? *quits watching*

  • sweet ric

  • sweet ric

  • The sweet dissonance is heard while they are singing. Early Pink Floyd was fantastic. David Gilmour is good and all - I just don't think they would have ever reached the heights which they ultimately attained without Syd Barrett. He definitely was the pink of the group and I highly suspect he was the original Floyd. Long live Syd in spirit.

  • Holy shit! They looks like kids haha

  • The cambrian explosion saw the sudden rise of species of animals 500 million years ago. The 1960's saw an explosion of underground bands destined to be forgotten on the shelves of BBC.

  • I never noticed it before, but David Gilmore looks like he could be Milla Jovovich's dad!

  • @muridsilat ... Good call!

  • @muridsilat . lol i was just saying to myself , fuckin gilmour looks like joan of arc on this lol

  • y se tragó la canción.... Sin Syd no es igual, prefiero la banda con él a pesar de lo ke digan

  • who is that french guy playing desk?!!!!! lol

  • holy shit they were fuckedup lol

  • Never seen this. Thank you, beyond, for uploading.

  • come on and allow embedding, don't be a re-tard!

  • Cool bass. Reminds me of what Geddy Lee was playing live in the 70's.

  • "THE" Pink Floyd!

  • That fucking French guy was really pissing me off after a while, why was it necessary to include that entire introduction? Christ!

  • @cathoderoy im sure hes the host and there was a whole program before hand, and maybe if you knew french youd realize hes talking about the band, people in the 60s couldnt just google PINK FLOYD after the show was over

  • @SonRegal That is the problem, even though I took French courses for five years in school, I still couldn't tell what he was saying...I wasn't complaining about the long introduction being on the show, it was that I had to try to understand what he was saying and couldn't, thus putting me in irritated state of mind right before watching the band. I know in the long run you're right, but that's what made me write the comment...and we CAN Google today.

  • Moraisito - The best...

  • Dave saved the Floyd? Hmm, I always thought that if Roger Waters hadn't started writing the majority of the songs that the Floyd would have remained in obscurity.

  • Dunno why, but it sounds like they turned the volume down a bit on this show...

  • Syd was fantastic, but Dave Gilmour saved Pink Floyd.

Without Dave, today they'd be an unknown obscure 60's group most people never heard of.

  • @shutdafup That's exactly right. The guy speaks French too. What can't Dave do?

Still think the world of Syd and his music though. I'm very happy with the Piper album as well as his solo work. Dave always seemed to flub the lyrics, back then, to "Flaming" whenever they would play it live.

  • Comment removed

  • @shutdafup You sir , are an Idiot

  • @shutdafup You're an Idiot

  • @shutdafup You pegged that one yo! I hear people whining about Syd all the time, but it's Dave and Rog I get off on. I'm sure Syd was good, but I agree.

  • @shutdafup fuck Gilmour he is nothing compared to Syd

  • @sabakunomike

    good comment.

  • @shutdafup

    you have a stupid comment.

  • @shutdafup I love Syd Barrett more than David Gilmour, but you are right

Pink floyd wouldn't be so famous as now without David Gilmour

and Syd Barrett kinda died in his head...

  • @johnsydjimi Barrett lost his fucking mind!

  • @shutdafup It was Waters who took over. Gilmour only replaced (slowly, of course) Syd. Dave was da voice and da guitar, Waters da brain. Not only when it comes to lyrics.

I hate those arguments but didn's start this one... :)

  • @shutdafup sorry dude you're pretty insane to say that

  • @shutdafup Agreed!!!!

  • @shutdafup of course. dave played in ummagumma version, that means he was the productor of half of floyd's psychedelia.

  • @shutdafup Okay first off I know I spelled Barrett wrong but are you kidding me. While there albums did pretty well, the album Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only album with a hit on it and they were huge at the time and Pink Floyd well know, other than in US. Which is no shocker since US always seems to be late at finding out about bands like this compared to rest of world

  • @shutdafup Have to agree

  • 11 no brain disliked here!

R.I.P Richard Wright & Syd Barrett

  • I positively love Gilmour but Syd....wish you were here.

  • nep tune ti tan stars can fright en

  • La chanson commence à 0:47

  • Kraftwerk in ambush

  • very good

  • Gilmour. UGH!

  • sad without syd

  • @bopka45 Extremely sad.

  • @bopka45 Syd was great. But, as the band became a well known act He didn't want to be a part of it anymore.

  • @bopka45

Ja, it´s a bit painful to hear/watch these Syd-songs without Syd. And Syd could sing better at all - much better.

  • l like how people are talking about syd and dont even know anything

  • how the fuck is anyone supposed to find this video the way that you spelled everything?

  • It seems like gilmours voice is a bit more raspy than usual especially during the beginning of flaming

  • what the fuck did that foreign dude say? He probably just said how the band had recently kicked poor syd out.

  • @animalslayer2008 Now he don't, he says it's a big sensation to receive such a good group and that it's important to see Pink Floyd

  • @redstarboy93 yah i was joking. Man i love this video. I have watched it a dozen times

  • I could swear I saw a version exactly like this only with Barrett at the lead. Either I must be smoking something when I last viewed it, or it was removed, but I could SWEAR I saw Syd instead of David singing.

  • Amazing how much more stage presence Syd Barrett had while singing Astronomy Domine than Gilmour.

  • SECAM c'est magnifique

  • He's dead you idiot

  • Watch the new video about Pink Floyd:

    [Youtube] /watch?v=umPJZMs_2XE

  • meow, Gilmour was such a lady-killer.

  • gilmour was gorgeous

  • @mydnyc he was and he is !

  • @mecagoen666 Maybe then but NOW ? He is a great guitar player but now looks like Uncle Fester....

  • weird

  • Dave would have been a big disapointment to the fans in his early days but I guess it would be a better alternative to syd just staring off into space.

  • Was the French guy with the computers Syd's replacement?

  • That's Gilmour not Barrett, very soon after Dave repalced Syd.

  • man i love that late 60s sound,far out!!!

  • Pink Floyd`s music was used as an experiment to hypnotise mind controlled hippies on drugs. That`s why so much money and publicity was poured into their music by rich people. Syd Barrett was also a mind controlled victim that went wrong.

  • i lolled.

  • Couldn't that French dork at least get out of the way while the guys were performing?

  • psicodelia para todos!!

  • damn its really different without syd

  • it almost sounds gutless doesn't it? they way Syd attacked those opening chords really kick it off. I think David Gilmour's playing but here it just sounds lifeless.

  • well yeah hes playing a song that really isn't his style and he had almost nothing to do with, so it doesn't really fit with him. he was great at the progressive stuff they did later though

  • it's so sad when Syd isn't there :(

  • @TininSkywithDiamonds bullshit !

syd barrett founded the band but left it

    only 3 years later !!!!!

    he took another way afterwards

    leave him alone!

this is one of his contributions to the band, that's it.

  • @59mar Syd Barrett never left the band but was rather kicked out by their PF friends because of his mental problems. Tell me about friendship...

  • @BlueJoe21 - actually it had nothing to do with his "mental problems" it was only because of his prodigious drug intake

  • they are trying hard to make something good and artistic but you can see they are not real musicians at this point

  • Oh yeah? How do you define a real musician? I'd say they were as real as they ever was gonna be, but they lack that certain edge when Syd isn't there.

  • jeezus, this must be the effect of hallucinogenic drugs on rock musicians.

    maybe lsd-25 or marijuana.

  • What's your point, Sherlock?

  • my point, if u really don't get it, is that some drugs make some people do some weird sh*t. 3:25 just listen this "psychedelic" music.

  • This is the point in Pink Floyd's career that David Gilmore was brought in to replace Syd, due to his inability or unwantedness to perform. You can see how uncomfortable David is and how sad Roger Waters is. Everyone in the band wanted Syd to return...Shine On Crazy Diamond and many other songs played tribute and sadness at Syd's withdraw. Syd was the beginning and will always be Pink Floyd.

  • @afxcorner poor syd- will they ever let you rest in peace ?

go have a look at his paintings instead ,

    you fools!

  • Rickenbacker rules !

  • you said that right!! ;)

  • Where is Syd?

  • interesting to see this song performed with Gilmour. I am used to seeing Barratt at the front on this one.

  • How can anyone HATE any Floyd? As much as I love David Gilmour, Sid was one cool cat and early Floyd was a thing of beauty.

  • dark side is nice (except money which is really jars in the album), Animals is not so bad but seriously... Ummaguma, Atom Heart Mother, Piper and Saucerful of Secrets are So amazing, it's perfect, and syd's solo album are just wonderful (Baby lemonade). I don't understand how you cannot like astronomy domine :p

  • lol you don't know a joke when you hear one? lol beowulven is the only one that got it! We know it is french!! dillweed!

  • The guy in the beginning speaks French and he says nothing important..talking about the band being from England and that they have a new disc out and he's glad they came to perform on his show because according to him it's very important to watch the band in the flesh..and they're going to perfom a song with the title Astronomy Dominee (the title pleases him a lot).....greetings

  • WTF is john mcenroe saying int he beginning? It was inside the line!

  • You are my god...

  • I couldn't understand a thing the guy was saying at the beginning! His enunciation is terrible! Ya wouldn't even think he is speaking english his pronunciation is so bad! Just wait awhile for the right day and I'll come down the hill in my own way!

  • he isnt speaking english? lol

  • ITS A FRENCH TV SHOW FOOL.

  • That's the worst English accent I've ever heard... must be from the north...

  • gilmour looks like mick jagger here, also he is trying to play and sing syd's parts with relative success

  • I have always thought of waters as being darth vader. seriously, the guy has always had such a dark and kind of imposing presence. And he's such a jack ass with everyone. He woulda force chocked gilmour if he could have. "Apology accepted Captain Needa!" But who is gilmour? Princess Leia?

  • Your Methaphore is Useless...

  • Thanks to Youtube, I got to know two stunning musical gems: Scream Thy Last Scream and Vegetable Man. These two fantastic Songs of Syd's, the last ones he recorded with the Pink Floyd, show how sad it was that he had to go.

Without Syd, the Pink Floyd were like the Doors without Jim Morrison, or like the Beach Boys without Brian Wilson... they became songwriters overnight, not because they were good at it, but simply because they had to, since they lost their songwriter. The result: Boredom.

  • I don't think 'dark side' or 'animals' are so boring. Maybe do you think Waters or Guilmore are jerks?

    I don't think so...

  • I'm just saying that both of them are among the most overrated musicians ever, they had virtually zero interesting musical ideas.

  • I think Barret is overrated, maybe, not Waters. Anyway Pink Floyd are not overrated, they had what they deserved. My opinion. Bye from trieste, italy.

  • Syd overrated - macché...

  • I agree, although some of the early live performances are pretty great, check Astronomy in Belgium.

  • Is you Shel Talmy, the famous Who / Kinks producer?

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome Rick.

    R.i.p.

  • is anyone knows the background tune when the guys talks, plase let me know

  • Man David Gilmore really looks alot like Mick jagger in this video.

  • Have you got it yet?

  • I got a bike...

  • He's their accountant

  • who's the the guy in the back on the left?

  • Man, the Floyd were brilliant.

  • This performance seems pathetic without Syd waving his arms in the air.

  • because he is not there

  • incredible!

  • Is this the REAL Pink , or wkat?!!

  • ha ha charade you are. . . . . . . . . . . .

  • I'll have what they're having....

  • Dave looks like buffalo bill the murderer. He rocks

  • put the lotion in the basket

  • PUT THE FUCKIN LOTION IN THE BASKET!!!

  • wow, he didn't even touch his Hammond H-111 Organ, there must be more songs?
