So interesting to hear David singing and playing the Syd songs. It is such a shame that there aren't more of them. He may have taught Syd to play but the weirdness in where Syd went with it was too unique for even David to cover properly when he took over. Much better when David started doing his own thing. I've always said Nick was under rated. Look at him go.

Hammond E-100 going unused. Rick liked the Farfisa. I contend Pink Floyd's sound depends more upon which keyboards Wright was using. Farfisa, Hammond, piano, electric piano, arps. Think about it. He was a sound shaper.

@MrJro2 Well, I respectfully disagree, and I don't really have any problem with you; really though, I don't hate it all, as I love: Granchester Meadows, The Nile Song, On the Run, Pigs, Vera, Eclipse, Time.
Syd was always my favorite. I liked Pink Floyd, as a kid and I was introduced to Syd while watching Pulse(Astronomy). I bought the stuff and it's had a much bigger impact on me than the other stuff.

Le DJ francais grooving avec les anglais progressives, mais Monsieur Gilmour est embarrassé quand il chant "Flaming". Monsieur Wright, Waters et Mason sont magnifique!!!
The sweet dissonance is heard while they are singing. Early Pink Floyd was fantastic. David Gilmour is good and all - I just don't think they would have ever reached the heights which they ultimately attained without Syd Barrett. He definitely was the pink of the group and I highly suspect he was the original Floyd. Long live Syd in spirit.
The cambrian explosion saw the sudden rise of species of animals 500 million years ago. The 1960's saw an explosion of underground bands destined to be forgotten on the shelves of BBC.
@cathoderoy im sure hes the host and there was a whole program before hand, and maybe if you knew french youd realize hes talking about the band, people in the 60s couldnt just google PINK FLOYD after the show was over
@SonRegal That is the problem, even though I took French courses for five years in school, I still couldn't tell what he was saying...I wasn't complaining about the long introduction being on the show, it was that I had to try to understand what he was saying and couldn't, thus putting me in irritated state of mind right before watching the band. I know in the long run you're right, but that's what made me write the comment...and we CAN Google today.
Dave saved the Floyd? Hmm, I always thought that if Roger Waters hadn't started writing the majority of the songs that the Floyd would have remained in obscurity.
@shutdafup That's exactly right. The guy speaks French too. What can't Dave do?
Still think the world of Syd and his music though. I'm very happy with the Piper album as well as his solo work. Dave always seemed to flub the lyrics, back then, to "Flaming" whenever they would play it live.
@shutdafup You pegged that one yo! I hear people whining about Syd all the time, but it's Dave and Rog I get off on. I'm sure Syd was good, but I agree.
@shutdafup It was Waters who took over. Gilmour only replaced (slowly, of course) Syd. Dave was da voice and da guitar, Waters da brain. Not only when it comes to lyrics.
I hate those arguments but didn's start this one... :)
@shutdafup Okay first off I know I spelled Barrett wrong but are you kidding me. While there albums did pretty well, the album Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only album with a hit on it and they were huge at the time and Pink Floyd well know, other than in US. Which is no shocker since US always seems to be late at finding out about bands like this compared to rest of world
I could swear I saw a version exactly like this only with Barrett at the lead. Either I must be smoking something when I last viewed it, or it was removed, but I could SWEAR I saw Syd instead of David singing.
Dave would have been a big disapointment to the fans in his early days but I guess it would be a better alternative to syd just staring off into space.
Pink Floyd`s music was used as an experiment to hypnotise mind controlled hippies on drugs. That`s why so much money and publicity was poured into their music by rich people. Syd Barrett was also a mind controlled victim that went wrong.
it almost sounds gutless doesn't it? they way Syd attacked those opening chords really kick it off. I think David Gilmour's playing but here it just sounds lifeless.

I don't think 'dark side' or 'animals' are so boring. Maybe do you think Waters or Guilmore are jerks?
I don't think so...

I'm just saying that both of them are among the most overrated musicians ever, they had virtually zero interesting musical ideas.

I think Barret is overrated, maybe, not Waters. Anyway Pink Floyd are not overrated, they had what they deserved. My opinion. Bye from trieste, italy.

I agree, although some of the early live performances are pretty great, check Astronomy in Belgium.

This performance seems pathetic without Syd waving his arms in the air.
