Fall...1978...Norfolk...Ghent...A Baylor A...Fire escape...Michael's voice flowing like honey from LP to Advent stereo...Perfect moments...A brief taste of Heaven...
Michael Franks is certainly NOT UNDER-RATED! He's the quintessential romatic jazz poet. He just released his 18th CD, "Time Together" and it's the bomb!
i love this song, the music really compromise the great lyric...
my father used to play Michael Franks songs in the car whenever we take a road trip on our holidays, he says the he and my mother used to listen to Michael Franks' songs when they were still dating.. i currently live far away from my parents, so listening to his songs always brings me back to those happy memories about the trips my family..
Franks is 'tasty,' as we old-time jazz fans would say. Nothing to excess- not a note or a breath wasted. Nothing flashy--he doesn't have to show off his chops on every song. It's hard to find people like him in music these days. Treasure them when you find them. Go see them perform, buy their recordings, keep them going.
Hmmmmm. Michael Franks is the greatest! I dont care whatever you say negative things about him. His music is FANTASTIC. He doesnt need to reach a high note or do some belting out. His music goes deep in my soul. Great ! Great! Great!
I love the tube as the jukebox of my old memories, and this song, this song, takes me back to the fall of 77 and the man, who gave me the record.
A couple of years later, I was in the NWT, and the helicopter pilot made a big point about his contract promising him showers, which our chief had bungled the water heater for. So a few of us took the helicopter to Coppermine, where the water was off. A man sang and played most of the MF record for me on his Yamaha.
Back in 1979 I met who is now my wife. That was one of the songs that danced for the first time. We fell in love listening to Michael Franks' music. He is the culprit :)
cheers to all of Michael fans. I've been to several of his concerts when I was living in California and I loved them all!! I now live in Miami and haven't seen any shows here by Michael.
The first time I heard him ,I was in Corpus Cristi...and the oddd time of night that they chosed to play Jazz was in the wee hours of morning..(Thanks Donnie)..Down In Brazil.....I was hooked right then.....totally under-rated.....
not only is he an awesome musician, he's also a great individual. i have apoken to him a few times and hes super duper cool. even though hes over looked and underatted, you would be surprised as to who shows up at his concerts. big huge names. for real
I don't know, Flipnsac. I've been a fan for 30-plus years; have seen Michael in person many times. My ex-radio station, WJZZ, made him in my hometown of Detroit. Perhaps some people think his stuff is lame, simplistic, etc. I understand their viewpoint, but I think he's terrific! Great melodies!
this song together with"the lady wants to know" are my most requested songs of all time we saw his live concert many years ago in manila. he's really a crowd drawer we'll never forget you mr. franks my hats off for you thanks !!
I knew several of his songs, but didn't know who the singer was until recently. His voice is certainly distinctive, and his songs are like sweet poetry. Is this song about a cat that he found?
@flipnsac thats a easy answer because most people are ignorant to the fact that good music comes in all flava's music today is manufactured in the studio by people who have no talent to sing or play a instrument and its real sad that the great musicians and singers like michael franks dont get the props they deserve its because people like him that music is where it is today the new so call artist don't create anything they just sample from the old
@flipnsac I AGREE WITH YOU. i have learned that in life those who are more talented are less appreciated. everything is an image nowadays with music. very sad.
We had a local smooth jazz station here in Sacramento, CA that refused to play any Michael Franks music. Even though many of his session musicians are well known in the smooth jazz world, I couldn't convince them to play him. That station is no longer on the air but if you can't listen to him on smooth jazz, where? I guess you have to be pretty unique to appreciate his music and talent but it's such a shame he is so unappreciated. BTW, they love him in Brazil.
Dude, I didn't even know Michael Franks could play the guitar. As if he wasn't already talented enough! I love this song. I was hoping for the full-on orchestral version of it, but acoustic will do just fine.
I remember when I first listened to Michael Franks. The song was "When the Cookie Jar is Empty." I had discovered his music on a whim. I was captivated his voice and his singing style. He is like Jobim, Pastorious, and Flora Purim. He is one of a kind and there will never be another like him. He is a master at making people "feel." God bless you Michael Franks. Cheers from Philly!
Poopaloo55, that's how I feel sometimes when I hear a great song or melody for the first time. That's why I joined YT, it's all here...enjoy your visit.
Sheer brilliance (and a fellow University of Oregon Alumni...got his Ph.D. there). I listened to Popsicle Toes and bought every album/CD since. Antonio taught him well. The most unique talent anywhere...between him and Al Jarreau, they put vocal jazz back on the map. Thank you Michael.
This is a cool driving song. Imagine just cruising along with the windows down, the moon bright above either alone with your thoughts or with your honey beside you stroking your hand
