@AlexDeLarge90 it burns methanol which actually runs alot cooler that the normal fuel it runs on and methanol does not produce carbon, so its not so bad for the motor. Especially since its an airplane engine, its meant to produce continuous takeoff power.

Airplane engines are not run at continuous takeoff power. They also have climb and cruise settings that are more friendly to the life of the engine, something which tractor pulling is definitely not. Carbon isn't the problem. It's the rapid temp and rpm changes that will wreck the engine and cylinders very quickly.

its a Danish puller. the radial puts out about 3500 HP at 2500 rpm and the hemi about 1500 HP at 5000 rpm.

there is a cluch mechanism between the two engines. actually the drive it around on the radial and only engages the hemi when waiting to start pulling.

seen this monster live quite a few times, and it is ungodly loud!

I doubt the hemi is to drive the vehicle around when not racing like others have mentioned. All that extra (engine) metal just to drive it around. It might be used to drive the supercharger. Those radials are supercharged. They are the same ones that the P47 used to use along with a remote turbo system in the rear of the airplane. The hemi might be driving the supercharger to get rid of parasitic loss.

It's just a guess, but I bet the Hemi is just linked to the drive train and used to move the tractor around from the trailer to the track. The radial engine probably has too much torque just to move it and it would quickly overheat without airflow, although, sadly, that radial will probably die quickly anyway used like that.
