Its funny that people who think Vedder wrote it think he's singing about Irag/Afganistan.

Then there's those who know Dylan wrote it, but think it was about Vietnam. It was written sometime in 1961-62 and released in 63, so before American troops entered Vietnam.

I guess what I'm saying is this song is in reference to the Cold War but is incredibly timeless. Universally applicable to all war and those who wage it
